VT Paw Paw - Flavour Review
submitted about 5 years ago by -DixxleRoo-Community MVP

I've been SFTing a flavour per day for a few weeks now. So I thought I may as well start posting my notes.

Flavour Name: VT Paw Paw

SFT at 2.5% and 4% (added 1.25% to what remained in the tester bottle) 60/40, 1mg

Tested on: Hadaly, single alien KA1, 0.55 ohms, 35w

Steeped for: 2.5% tester - 1 day (overnight). 4% tester - SNV (although the 2.5% tester I added to had steeped overnight) and overnight and 4 days.

Flavour Description: I really like this flavour. I could vape it as a SF. It's really tasty and refreshing. Fairly complex. Slightly creamy base, in a similar way to how banana is creamy, but without any banana flavour. Honeydew melon and slight cucumber -ish notes which makes it really refreshing. Has a bit of tropical funkiness and tartness, similar to that of passion fruit, that runs all the way through the vape. Not particularly sweet, but does have some nice sweetness to it. I can't really speak to authenticity as I don't think I've had paw paw before. But its natural and not candied at all. Nice juiciness. It's very flavourful and distinctive.

Mouthfeel/ Texture: slight creaminess. Nice juiciness.

Off Notes: nothing tastes off or sticks out. But I can't say how accurate it is to the real thing.

Throat Hit: none

% Testing: at 2.5% it's not as full flavoured as I'd like for a SF or if I was using it as a main note in a mix. I've used it before in a mix at 3.75% and it was bolder and had a lovely tanginess that isn't quite coming through at 2.5%.

At 4% as a SNV it's still not bold enough. I remember it being a lot more present when I used it previously. After an overnight steep it's much better, much bolder and more saturated. After 4 days it hasn't changed. I'd say 4% is about right for a SF and maybe 3.5-4% as a main note in a mix, with an overnight steep.

Use and Pairings: it's very flavourful and distinctive. So it's something I'd probably want to build a recipe around. I think you could just add a couple of other flavours and get a really nice, complex tasting mix.

I could see it easily getting muddied if used with too many other tropical fruit flavours that have that similar funkiness. It shares a lot of similarities with honeydew melon and has the same refreshing quality. So could be a different alternative to using honeydew?

It already has that creamy base so would probably be pretty easy to work into some sort of creamy mix. I used it in a pineapple, paw paw yoghurt recipe and it worked really well.

It seems to have used the photo from my recipe on ATF. Anyone know how I can keep the link but get rid of the photo? Thanks

Just so y'all Americans know, "Paw paw" or "Papaw" is what we Australians call Papaya -- looking at their store page on VTA confirms that this isn't the fruit native to America and instead is Papaya.

In Canada there is a pawpaw fruit that's incredibly tasty, but since VT is an Australian company, safe to assume it's papaya and not the other weird cold weather fruit that tastes like it belongs in the tropics?

Yeah, pretty safe bet, I'd reckon.

This is VT's own storefront which has a photo of a papaya.

That's pretty hard to argue!
I wonder if anyone makes a flavor like the fruit I'm thinking of

I might have to sft it later I have it but haven’t played with it yet ... does it change over steep?

I found it gets a fair bit bolder with an overnight steep compared with SNV. But to me that’s true with most flavours. But besides that it didn’t change. I tried my SFT after 4 days when I wrote those notes. I’ve also tried it after a week in a recipe I used it in and didn’t notice any change. It’s definitely worth giving it a try. I really like vaping it as a single flavour. It’s pretty tasty. I’d be interested to hear what you think of it.

Ill mix up a sft at 3.5 now ... have you tried the VT mangosteen

Just tested it off the shake at 3.5... I get what you mean by that Banana Creaminess without the Banana flavor but also has a juiciness to it kinda like a pulpy juice maybe , the muskiness i taste is there but its not overly musky (I can relate it to like the musk a Papaya would have). On the exhale im gettin a wisp of passionfruit like how you described, which that Papaya-like light muskiness goes with. Ill come back a try it in a few days and update this comment. Overall very distinct tropical fruit that muskiness is not overbearing its just right. I would love this with some pineapple and lemonade, would probably stay around 3.5-4% for primary

Pineapple and lemonade sounds really good. One of the things I like about it is the bit of tartness it has so I bet pushing that aspect would be really tasty.

Been fascinated by the paw paw ever since I tried it in this lovely recipe: dismal pie by u/Glasschalice468

That looks really tasty. I wouldn’t have thought to put it in a pie. Im just getting into tropical flavours so I’m still not totally sure what to do with them in general.

I don’t have WF Cherimoya but I’m tempted to get it in my next order and give it a try. I read her notes and it’s I nteresting that she said she found VT Paw Paw too soft. I don’t know how high she tried to push the %. I found it a bit too soft up until around 4% then it got really bold and flavourful.

Would it pair well with an orange?

I imagine it would go fine with a more generic type orange note. It’s not a pairing I’ve tried though. But something like a blood orange or an especially rindy orange I’m not sure. The earthiness or bitterness might be weird? But if that is a good or bad weird I don’t know.
