PART 1:

Noted Ep. 166: CHOCOLATE MILK (ft. Folkart)

(Episode aired 1st September 2020)

(Milk chocolate and chocolate milk - ranked from worst to first)

It's very difficult to mix a chocolate and a milk to get a chocolate milk because of the separation of the flavours - you'll usually get Tootsie rolls floating in a glass of milk.

Herrlan Choco Shake: Chocolate covered pot pourri. Made ID10-T gag. Tested at 2%. Which is in the middle of what their recommended %s are.

7.24

Herrlan Shokolade Voll Milch: Thick and chocolate-y, but also tasted a bit like a fart. Literally tastes like crap! Also like a really old, musty prune covered in chocolate.

8.06

FW Milk Chocolate: Nasty! The actual concentrate is very dark. Perfumey and chemical, nail polish off notes. Very sweet. a bit neauseating. Tastes very dark, but not like chocolate. More like sugar mixed with used motor oil. Odd as FW is capable of doing chocolate as FW Creamy Chocolate Cake isn't that bad. Really dry.

10.04

CAP Double Chocolate V1: Doesn't taste like chocolate in any way. Not even chocolate adjacent! Non specific fruitiness, some actual dirt and a little plastic-y.

11.43

LA Chocolate (Colourless): Some chocolate in there, but it's buried under a pile of cardboard.

12.44

VT Swiss Chocolate: ID10-T thought it was like pouring fruit punch on some dirt. Indistinct fruitiness, sweet, and dirt. Maybe some raw cocoa in the background. Emily got a bright fruity sweetness, but no dirt. Got some chocolate, but not as good as VT Chocolate Mousse or VT Devon Cream. Both agreed it is VT's worst chocolate.

13.41

VT Devon Cream and VT Macadamia Nut have a really nice, but really out of place, chocolate note.

INW Milk Chocolate: The old formulation was great. But the new version is really bad. Tastes like a Band-Aid.

15.29

TFA Milk Chocolate: Not chocolate. Creamy and thick. But tastes like a slightly burnt caramel sauce that has been watered down. Or like a burnt TFA Sweet Cream. Has a really unpleasant burnt note. No chocolate. Tested at 3%

16.58

INW Chocolate Cream: ID10-T got a little bit of darker chocolate, but mostly burnt caramel sauce. Similar to TFA. Folkart got more of a burnt coffee. He's used it really low in mixes to add a little touch of creamy coffee. Has a nice cream. Not chocolate.

17.52

Gremlin Juice Chocolate Overload: A oneshot, but Gremlin Juice encourage its use as a flavour. Like Tootsie Rolls, but worse. Mostly Tootsie Roll with a bright fruity sweetness, dirt, cocoa and cardboard.

19.05 gremlin juice may have pioneered one shots and using one shots as flavours?

VT Chocolate Base Clear: Ranked so low as was expecting just the chocolate note from Devon Cream. But got mostly Tootsie Roll. Folkart and ID10-T get a pretty heavy plastic, chemically off note on the finish. Emily didn't get Tootsie Roll, thought the chocolate note was good, got a milky note but was a little bit dry and powdery. A touch of fruity sweetness. Tested at 2%. If Folkart does use it he tries to keep it below 1%, but thinks its still not a great chocolate.

20.15

FA Chocolate: Very fake chocolate. Tastes like Carob chocolate. Terrible. Cardboard-y

21.35

LB Chocolate Roll: Tootsie Roll.

22.25

TFA Milk Chocolate DX: Pretty similar, but some of the burnt notes were stronger. A little more of a butiric note. The actual concentrate is a lot darker than the original TFA Milk Chocolate as well.

23.10

TFA Double Chocolate Clear: ID10-T gets mostly melted Tootsie Rolls. Was the best option for a long time. But a lot of better flavours have come out since then. Can be made to work if used in the right application. There's a trick which combines it with LA Tart and Sour, but Folkart tried it and it didn't work for him. Made it taste weird.

24.37

JF Milk Chocolate: A lot of people really like this flavour. ID10-T thought it had some milk chocolate flavour that's silky and chocolate-y. But it's fairly mild and he and Cheeba get an unpleasant plastic-y aftertaste. It comes in a couple of seconds after exhaling. ID10-T SF tested it with sweetener added. But sweetener usually helps carry the aftertaste, so maybe would have found it better without sweetner? Emily doesn't get any plastic. But the flavour and texture don't mesh. The flavour is a good dark, semi sweet chocolate, then it turns dry and powdery.

26.15

Folkart suggests adding sweetener to chocolates, will improve them. Emily likes too use CAP Super Sweet with chocolates as the little bit of malic and citric acid helps the chocolate further.

WF Chocolate Chunks: Mostly dark chocolate. As a SF ID10-T gets a touch of a roasted nut kind of off note and the slightest bit of Tootsie Roll. It's also a little dry. Emily likes it a lot. It almost has the hard shell texture which separates itself as a chocolate chip or chunk. It's got some snap to it. Folkart would use it in a candy bar or as a chocolate chip in a cookie etc. But wouldn't use it in something like a chocolate milk. Probably the closest thing there is for a chocolate chip as the flavour sets it apart from other chocolate flavours.

29.22

WF Nanaimo Bar: ID10-T remembered it being fake chocolate and fake coconut. Folkart loves it. Has a slight coconut note and a peanut butter vibe, a good chocolate note. Wishes WF could isolate the chocolate as it's so good.

32.51

CAP Double Chocolate V2: A lot better than V1. A little like a fake chocolate sauce, like melted Tootsie Rolls and heavy cream. Has a really nice thick, heavy cream feel to it. Very thick, very flavourful. Lingers. The chocolate is just a little artificial. It's a little darker than a milk chocolate. A lot of chocolates tend to be either gross or weak. This is not disgusting and it's not weak. Has a lot of flavour and depth. Tastes pretty good. Doesn't seem too bad on coils. Emily would use it with a better chocolate just to get the lingering heaviness. Would work well in a chocolate syrup. Does have a bit of a nutty note, something to bare in mind when using it. Tested at 2%. Would use it lower in a mix.

33.47

Euro Flavors Milk Chocolate: (Ranked much lower) Weird. Sharp and tangy with a little bit of a funk to it. Tested at 5%

37.01

Euro Flavors Chocolate: Not a milk chocolate, darker. Not terrible, but not good either (would be ranked a lot higher than EUR Milk Chocolate). But it is dry.

PART 3:

Noted Ep. 166: CHOCOLATE MILK (ft. Folkart)

Actual Milk Chocolate or Chocolate Milk Flavours:

FE/ SC Milk Chocolate: Pretty accurate to milk chocolate. Thick, creamy feel. Very sweet. However it's a bit light, not super flavourful. Between 1.5-2% could be a good start to a candy bar. Maybe add another slighty darker chocolate that's a bit bolder. Has a slight chemical taste at 2%. Unbearable chemical taste at 4% and the sweetness turned a bit fruity. 1% is very weak in flavour. So 1.5% to maybe 2% if you don't notice the chemical off note.

1.10.47

LA Chocolate Natural: CONTAINS SUGAR, NOT SAFE TO VAPE. A shame as it tastes really good. Similar to FE Milk Chocolate, but significantly more flavourful while still being a little soft. Very sweet. Pretty accurate to milk chocolate. Will probably wreck coils quickly and cause cancer.

1.12.55

Sugar burns at temperatures you vape at and gives off fumes that are detrimental to health. Can cause cancer. Even if you're not concerned about the health implications it destroys coils and wicks very quickly.

ASM (Eisaromen) Kakao: Abbreviated to ASM on ATF. Eisaromen means 'Ice Cream Flavours'. Tastes like chocolate milk, but it's dry and powdery. Kind of like milk chocolate powder. Tastes like Nesquick powder. Would work as chocolate milk in a mix. A touch darker than milk chocolate. Needs lightening just a little bit and help to stop it being so dry and powdery. Unlike most other chocolate flavours mixing it with a milk might actually work to make a milk chocolate, maybe FA Milk or a sweet cream.

1.15.24

HS Chocolate Cream: Not very chocolatey, but has a light chocolate note. No gross off notes. Very rich and creamy. A little bit of a twang. Not too much to be sour, just authentic dairy. Needs more chocolate to be a chocolate milk or milk chocolate. But seems like it would be a great component for either of those.

1.20.51

VT Devon Cream: Not supposed to taste like chocolate. But has a really great chocolate note and a rich, full cream. Similar to HS Chocolate Cream, but better. Has a bolder chocolate flavour. A little bit of a darker chocolate to HS though. If you wanted more of a milk chocolate HS may be the better option. The same chocolate note is present in VT Macadamia, which is fairly bland and vaguely nutty. Devon Cream is really rich, thick and creamy.

1.21.37

VT Chocolate Milk: Top heavy and thin. But right up front it is rich and creamy and a really authentic chocolate milk. Trails off into a bit of a mess with a faint bitter, musky note. Emily always mixes it with OOO Chocolate Milk, which is bottom heavy.

1.23.16

OOO Chocolate Milk: Thin. Bottom heavy, which is why it works so well with the top heavy VT Chocolate Milk. The top note is almost flavourless, just sweetness. Start to get watered down, almost Yoohoo-ish chocolate milk. As you finish exhaling gets stronger. Finishes on a good chocolate milk note. Weak. Not super flavourful, even at 8%.

1.24.00

Could maybe try 8% OOO CM and 3% VT CM? Emily hasn't used them that high when she's used the combo. But she's always used them in conjunction with other flavours in a mix. Never tested them just as a pair. ID10-T's idea was to use OOO and VT with HS Chocolate Cream. Or possibly VT Devon Cream? But it's a little darker. But he hasn't tested that theory yet. New Choc Milk Trinity?!

MB Cocoa Milk: Pretty good. Has more of a hot chocolate vibe. Although not hot. Light Cocoa type chocolate note. Most prominent note is the milk. Nice thick, creamy, milky milk. Not sour or butiric. A bit light on the cocoa. So would need another chocolate to bump it up. But milk is on point.

1.28.48

DIYFS Choco Milk Shack: Cheeba's all time favorite. Incredible. Tastes just like Ovaltine. A little bit of a darker chocolate. Very thick and creamy. Really smooth. Not dry like a lot of other chocolate flavours. Delicious. Great balance between the chocolate and the milk. Cheeba highly recommends it!

1.29.46

(DIYFS Choco Milk Shack available at DIY Vapour Supply in US)

Folkart and ID10-T tested around 1.5% VT CM and 4% OOO CM. %s need to be at least doubled. VT and OOO meet in the middle pretty well. So get a more full chocolate milk. But still a bit thin. HS Chocolate Cream or VT Devon Cream may be a good addition to enhance it and add volume. Or maybe could use a sweet cream. Maybe 1% of TFA Sweet Cream? Or FA Cream Fresh as a mid-range cream and very dairy-esque? FLV Cream might cover up the OOO a little bit? If using Devon Cream probably want to use it low as it's darker. Maybe 1%? Don't want to make the chocolate milk too dark. Maybe 4% VT CM, 8% OOO CM. With 1% Devon Cream or 2% Chocolate Cream. Or FA Cream Fresh?

PART 2:

Noted Ep. 166: CHOCOLATE MILK (ft. Folkart)

DEL Milk Chocolate: Not much flavour at all, barely anything. Not really any body either. Even at 8%. Tested at 5%, 6% and 8%

38.17

If you're looking for an Andy's Mint FLV Creme De Menthe would be a good place to start.

SA Chocolat Au Lait: Thick and milky. Milk chocolate. Unfortunately has a spoiled milk funk right on the end that ruins it. Before that it seems like it is going to be a really good, light milk chocolate.

40.00

ID10-T's List of Really Good Flavours But They Aren't Milk Chocolate or Chocolate Milk:

Club Der Dampfer Club Aroma Milch Shokolade: Very dark chocolate, despite being called milk chocolate. Tastes like dark chocolate liqueur. Some creaminess and an alcoholic, boozy off note, even after it's steeped for a week. It's tasty and pretty authentic to a dark chocolate liqueur.

41.50

TFA Ruby Chocolate: Has a hint of a milk chocolate note in the background. But mostly tastes like white chocolate that has been blended with raspberry. Red berry sweetness. Really nice as a SF. Could add a little more cream to it.

44.04

MB Glamour Chocolate: A lot of people really like it. Has distinct hazelnut note right up front. ID10-T gets more hazelnut than chocolate. The chocolate that is there is not really dark, but not milk chocolate. It's not weird, it's creamy and chocolate-y. Tastes good. Not like Nutella where the chocolate and hazelnut are blended together. More like a hazelnut half dipped in chocolate. A lot of people use it as a chocolate syrup. But the hazelnut has to be taken into account when using it. Might be able to cover it with another nut?

45.47

MB Chocolate Peanut Butter Milk: The chocolate note is quite light and milky. It's really full and lingers on the palate. The peanut butter isn't terrible, but isn't the best. Tastes more like peanuts than peanut butter. Overall it's a bit dry. Needs some sweet cream or something creamy to help it out. The chocolate is pretty good, the peanut is pretty good. Needs something to make it more of a creamy peanut butter. An issue that a lot of peanut butter flavours have. Has a heavy stickiness. Seeing as they are attempting to combine two of the hardest profiles to get right they haven't done a bad job. Has a really nice full, heavy mouthfeel that a lot of other chocolates usually lack. The dryness can probably be circumvented in the ways you would usually fix peanut butters, by adding caramel or sweet cream etc.

47.46

Chocolate flavours need something added to them. There's no single chocolate that you can use as a main note.

MB Bounty: Really good. Decent chocolate. Prominent coconut note. Similar, if not the same as MB Palm coconut, which is a really good coconut.

50.47

NF (Nature's Flavors) Chocolate: (would be ranked lower) A little bit of what is a pretty good chocolate up front but is a bit tart and has plastic-y off notes. Missing some creaminess. A little dry.

52.26

MB Chocolate Custard: Like custard or pudding blended with Hershey's syrup and dusted with dry cocoa. Not much separation, besides the dry cocoa. Cocoa is on top with a lot of Hersey's syrup and custard in the middle and a rich, custardy finish. Not bad.

53.32

VT Chocolate Custard: Emily likes it but gets a slight sour, tangy note. A little like sour milk. The chocolate note is really good. Almost like the chocolate note in VT Devon Cream. More of a thick cream than a custard.

54.43

FLV Milk Chocolate: Hershey's syrup. Not milk chocolate. Good, rich and thick. Very potent. Can be hard to work with. Won't blend with milk to make a chocolate milk, ID10-T tried pretty hard. Works well really low, around 0.15% (depending on what else you're mixing it with) with a little touch of FLV Sweet Coconut, maybe 0.25%. They blend together and taste like chocolate shell chocolate. Can be used as chocolate coating for something like a chocolate dipped ice cream in a cone. ID10-T isn't sure what ele to do with it besides that. Maybe use it very low with darker chocolates to lighten them a little? Potent. 0.25% can be enough to overpower a mix. Cheeba has used it at 1.25% in a tobacco mix. Used with FLV Arabian, which is a strong tobacco. But otherwise wouldn't normally use it that high. Might be worth making a dillution as if you overdrip, even slightly, it will ruin the whole mix.

56.14

HS Australian Chocolate: Not a milk chocolate or chocolate milk. Would be ranked much higher if this was 'All Chocolates' week. A good dark chocolate that is a little oddly nutty. Sour, but not in an unpleasant way. Reminiscent of Hershey's Special Dark with some indistinct roasted nuts in it. Not great by itself or as the only chocolate in a mix. Works really well at around 0.25-0.5% to boost other chocolates. Any higher than that the indistinct nuttiness really starts to stick out. The sourness can become off putting too. Use around 0.25-0.5% to accent other chocolates. Too high, around 2%, it's really sour and nutty.

59.53

VT Chocolate Mousse: Really good. Kind of like a dark chocolate whipped cream, frosting or airy pudding. Creamy, dairy. Light and fluffy whilst being rich. Doesn't taste like Tootsie Rolls. Darker than milk chocolate. Not very bold, even if it's cranked it up it's still pretty soft. It's a deep flavour, but not a strong flavour. It is present enough to add a dark chocolate accent to something without any off notes. Probably VTs best chocolate, beside the chocolate off notes in Devon Cream or Macadamia Nut. Works great as a chocolate frosting. A great flavour, but isn't a milk chocolate and can't just add milk to it to lighten it up.

1.01.29

CBV Shokolade: A good dark chocolate. Very full and thick. Almost like a chocolate cake if it had a touch more bakery. Very reminiscent of FLV Chocolate Deutsch, but without the coconut. Instead of the richer, cakey-ness it's a bit powdery. But if you added more cake flavour it would go perfectly in a chocolate cake recipe. It's bold. A little dry as a SF, but could easily be fixed in a mix.

1.03.53

Tasty Puff Chocolate: Fruity sweetness. A bit of a plastic off note.

1.05.23

Tasty Puff Chocolate Creme: Pretty good. Has a nice, deep chocolate on a nice, milky cream base. More of a milk chocolate. The cream has a dairy note, but isn't sour or butiric. The chocolate is pretty mild, but good.

1.06.00

Bakers Flavors Chocolate Truffle: Amazing! Might be ID10-T's all time favorite chocolate flavour. Emily gets a coconut note, but she is sensitive to it and used it at a higher % than ID10-T, as he doesn't get any coconut. He just gets a very nice, bold dark chocolate. Tastes like a dark chocolate frosting. The biggest issue with it is accesibility, it's not easy to find. Can get it from Juice Factory in Australia. They have it rebranded as 'Juice Factory Gourmet Super Concentrate Chocolate Truffle'. Very potent. About 0.75% is good for use as a SF, very full flavoured. Needs a bit of a steep. Otherwise has a bit of a throat hit.

Thanks for this!

Two questions, why can't I find DIYFS Choco Milk Shack anywhere, not even on their website, and why isn't there an index of all these notes from Noted?

I know. I looked everywhere I know of in the UK that sells concentrates and had no luck. It’s hard to get most DIYFS flavours here. Very annoying.

There’s an index of sorts of the notes I’ve done for Noted. I started at the beginning of the year, but I’ve done a fair few older episodes as well. They’re all available on Flavor Facts. If you click on the tab for whatever flavour profile you’re interested in if I’ve done some notes they’ll be on the menu on the left hand side. I think they’re usually near the bottom? I’m going to go back to do more of the older episodes but due to Covid I’ve been really busy lately.

I did actually find a list, by Apexified I believe: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/u/0/d/1iFhGd1zL94q6gSsIYcxfGXkj_M6J9gaR-Ne3tYTbqCM/htmlview

I for one would be massively grateful for notes on the missing ones. Even though they're not gospel and tastes differ, having an easy index of these is some of the best content on this sub.

by -DixxleRoo-about 5 years ago

I didn’t know he was adding them there too. It seems like he’s just started to post the longer form notes I’ve done so most aren’t available there. I do a shortened version for the DIY or DIE website too so I think all of those are there.

Here’s the link to Flavor Facts where all the longer and shorter versions of the notes have been posted,

https://link.diyejuice.org/Facts000

It might not work on your phone unless you have a spreadsheet programme installed. I can’t access it on my phone anyway.

I’ll start including the link to Flavor Facts whenever I post notes so they’re easier to find.

So basically what I get from this is that there really is no good milk chocolate flavor. Like cherry in the list of flavors that no one has really manages to make properly yet. I've been using inawera old formula milk chocolate with vta chocolate mousse when I need a milk chocolate (which, admittedly is rare).

Thanks for the excellent Notes!

Thanks for the notes. I recently got a free 3ml of Double Dutch chocolate flavour. Any good suggestions how to use it? Seems so dark like it could only with other darkness.

Is that FW Double Dutch Chocolate? They discussed it on Noted a while ago. Apparently it’s not safe to vape. It contains solid fats which may cause lipid pneumonia. That’s what was said on the episode anyway.

Thank you so much for this, much appreciated and in the bin this flavour goes! I owe you :)
