I saw an old spreadsheet from 3 years ago with a breakdown of flavors containing certain chemicals.
For the sake of avoiding out of date info, is anyone here purposefully mixing WITH diacetyl?
My favorite flavor of all time was mother's milk by suicide bunny and I used to enjoy custards and cereal milk flavors but they all taste like terrible husks of what they used to be.
I'd like to get into DIY so I'm just trying to consolidate my options for trying to recreate the magic.
Thank you!
A lot of mixers aren't concerned with the amount of Diacetyl found in flavors. Just stay away from DX and V2 flavors (there are a few exceptions, but not for what you want to make)
I completely disagree with that. I know a lot of mixers that ARE concerned with DAAP.
How is that disagreeing? You know mixers. I know mixers. Your statement doesn't make mine not true.
I prefer diacetyl over butyric acid...it tastes like literal puke to me :/
That's because puke contains butyric acid, it's literally what gives puke it's distinctive smell :)
But in small amounts it can give a buttery taste and smell - when you go over the limit however - puke city. Problem is, that "limit" is different for everybody, so yeah, diacetyl is way better
There are ingredients I go out of my way to avoid. Diacetyl is not one of them.
Health concerns over diacetyl have been much exaggerated, given the miniscule amounts contained in the flavor concentrates that do use it. Diacetyl occurs naturally in butter, cheese, whisky, etc., and is not harmful at normal exposure levels.
There was a test done on cigarettes, because they contain Diacetyl. Your average cigarette contains around 700 times as much diacetyl as the worst of the flavourings (if I remember the details correctly)
Even at those high numbers it was found it is not high enough to cause any health issues.
So yeah, worrying about diacetyl in vapes is about the same as worrying about drowning when you see a drop of water on the ground.
And beer!
I have a recipe called DAAPled pears and a few variations on the theme. The primary goal was to make the DAAPiest cream base I could.
There's plenty of folks that are mixing with little/no regard for whether something contains DAAP though. In the broadest/laziest sense you can be reasonably assured that if TFA has a flavor that has gotten a DX version, or if Capella has a flavor that received a V2, the original version contains DAAP, or you can look at the flavor safety site and look at the listings for Diacetyl, Acetoin, and Acetyl Propionyl
I just ordered all the stuff for that recipe! What is the vg/pg on it? I see 0 on that link so is it 100% PG?
hmm?
The VG/PG ratio is up to the user's discretion.
I typically mix anything I use for DL at 70/30 and MTL at 50/50 but really, whatever works for you.
No concerns over DAAP for me. The minimal amount I'm inhaling is probably less concerning than all the chemicals I inhaled smoking for 22 years.
Yes, lots of us use Diacetyl or DAAP containing flavors.
Edit: Also check out https://safety.diyejuice.org/ for more up-to-date safety information.
I disagree. I've seen lots of us use non-DAAP containing flavors
Capella Vanilla Custard (v1) HAS diacetyl and it is the main ingredient in my ADV.
Wrong! That's just another BS myth pulled out of A by some DAAP lovers (i'm one of them too, but i don't stand BSing).

There's NO Diacetyl in VC1 (or any other Capella's flavors) and it never has been.

.
"Acetyl Propionyl and Acetoin are the substitutes that arrived after the initial scare of Diacetyl and research suggests that these chemicals also can contain or convert themselves to Diacetyl." (https://www.thecleanvape.com/blog/diacetyl-acetyl-propionyl-acetoin-and-vaping/)
So I guess you are right. CAP VC v1 contains PENTANEDIONE,2,3 (ACETYL PROPIONYL) #205 (according to their own SDS), which "can contain or convert themselves to Diacetyl".
True. Sorry if my answer was harsh, but we vapers should be sensitive about delivering true information since we have these non-stop fights with manipulations/dis-information served by tobacco lobbies; we don't need that.
AP and Diacetyl are not the same thing and several countries have very different regulations about these two ingredients (and thus it's not in our interest to equalize them). I'm vaping Premium Custard FA, which is full of Diacetyl on daily basis btw.
What's your ADV? Mine is 2ml of Cap VC V1, and 5ml of TFA Strawberry Wild to make a 60ml bottle. So quick and easy to make, I don't even use scales for it any more, I just use a pipette. So damn tasty too.
Diacetyl will help you re-create that old magic. Yes many of us purposefully mix with it to get rich, thick, creamy vape. It's good stuff.
Where do you even get the stuff?
I don't personally buy straight diacetyl, although I seem to recall that it is possible. Certain flavors have it purposefully added to them by the flavor manufacturers. Also, certain components of the flavoring can contain diacetyl.
I go out of my way to get FA custard premium which isn’t even sold for the vaping industry in can (or US far as I know). That shit is thick!
This is a “to each their own” subject. Some ppl avoid and some of us love it. You really just gotta make your own Informed decision.
