Does my (already steeped) aroma +PG mix need additional steeping when adding it to PG+VG?
submitted about 5 years ago by Nijsjol

If I mix aroma into a little bit of PG (let's say 50% aroma, 50%PG) and let it steep for a couple of weeks..

Will the steeping time decrease when I decide to mix this with PG+VG (after the initial couple of weeks) or does it still need an additional 2/3 weeks steeping (again)?

Thanks

Diluting your flavors in pg does nothing for the steeping process and makes it much harder to mix other people's recipes.

Adding your aroma to PG is not steeping, that's just diluting your flavoring. When you add it to your VG, that is when it needs to steep.

The process is called "homogenization": it's when the molecules blend. It can't blend until you mix them. So, if you mix flavor with PG now and then wait to mix VG later, it still has to homogenize (i.e. it still has to steep). No way around it.

Will it take as long as without the pre-mix?

I haven't mixed with pre-mix (that creates other issues), but I would expect the process will be the same either way: VG is much more viscous than PG or many flavors and will take time.

What other issues could occur? Thanks!

Isn't there some chemistry involved as well? Flavor compounds combining to form new compounds or breaking down into different ones? I could be wrong tho :) Just seem to remember reading something about that long ago and subconsiously linked that to the need to steep some some of the non-SnV:able flavourings.

For the most part most flavors are already suspended in PG, why add more?

Hi. Aroma doesn‘t usually come presteeped. It’s flavoring that you mix with PG and VG. And then it needs to steep, the flavoring determines how long.

I don’t know of any flavors that are mixed at 50%.

I‘m guessing you might be talking about a oneshot.

You should really read the FAQ because it doesn’t sound like you really know what you‘re doing. Most everything you need to know can be found here.

I think he's diluting his flavors for some reason.

Your flavour/aroma is already mixed with PG when you buy it. You’d be just diluting it by adding more PG. so when you mix the VG in later it won’t have steeped already. It’ll start steeping when the VG is added. I don’t think you’re gonna get around the steep time by doing that I’m afraid.

I have a big bottle of a custard mix that I like. The longer custard sits the better it gets. So I’ll decant a bit out of that bottle and add different things to it depending on what I feel like at that time. Like berries or caramel etc.

But some flavours you don’t want to steep for a long time. You want to vape them fresh or with a short steep, like a lot of strawberries and lemons cos they fade after a week or two.

If steeping is a concern, find a recipe you like and mix a big batch or find snv recipes you know you can mix on the fly. In general, fruits are snv overall.

Maybe, if it is within your budget a G.C homengiser to speed things up a bit, along with a ultrasonic cleaner, or warm water baths. Other than that just steep, and wait out 2 to 4 weeks in a cool dark place. All I want for Xmas is thd G.C.....
