Salt Nicotine Measurements
submitted about 5 years ago by KJThaDon

So I'm new to salts, and looking ot mix up a 60ML bottle of 50MG nicotine.
My calculator is saying to add 34mg of nicotine to this bottle, which is nearly half the volume. I'm just trying to figure out of that's right or I'm doing something wrong here..

Nicotine: 100mg purnic salt

I got 37.05 for if in VG

the math was 30 x 1.235 = 37.05

not that it even makes a huge a huge difference from yours

He used the weight of VG, not the weight of 10% nic+90% vg. Your calculation is the correct one.

Measuring nic salts is no different than measuring freebase.

To make 50mg with 100mg, yes half of your bottle will be nic base.

You want 50mg/mL and your base is 100mg/mL. You’re going to have a lot of volume (weight) that’s nic base.

Only way to use less nicotine solution in your base and achieve 50mg is to mix with 250mg salts. Otherwise half your mix will be nicotine.

>u/KJThaDon: 100mg purnic salt

I searched the Internet and found this product at River Supply, but the information on their web page concerns me:

  • CAS#: 54-11-5
  • Purity: 100.1% - 100.5%
  • Chemical Formula: C10H14N2

Whereas, "nicotine benzoate" (the "salt") is:

  • CAS#: 88660-53-1
  • Chemical Formula: C17H20N2O2

River Supply specified the CAS# and chemical formula for freebase nicotine, and purity more than 100% (which is impossible). These mistakes cause me to question their specified product strength. Is 100 mg/mL the concentration of nicotine benzoate, or is it the "nicotine equivalent"? This is important, because nicotine benzoate is 57% nicotine, so its "nicotine equivalent" is 57 mg/mL if 100 mg/mL refers to the salt concentration rather than to the nicotine equivalent. In addition to not being sure what is being purchased, a secondary issue is cost, as an unclear concentration specification complicates cost comparisons.

There may be other product-container labeling that is illegible on their web site picture, but if you are not SURE, it is safer to assume it is "nicotine equivalent", so you don't end up with a mixture that is too strong.

Chemnovatic specifies the strength of their nicotine salts bases as "nicotine equivalent", which makes usage reliable, but I asked them if there was a USA distributor and they said, "no".

If you want your mix to be that strong then your base needs to be a lot stronger than it is. You need some 250mg/ml base. The calculator is correct, just most of your mix will be nic base.

Calculator is right, so you cant properly mix that much nic. I would recommend mix at least 12mg if you want space for flavour.
