My flavour stash isn’t the biggest yet. Okay so when I search ELR, I click on the rating tab and I always only see highest rates recipes that are from like 2015/2016. I’m a fan of dessert recipes.
I guess my question is, where are the new recipes that people make? I order flavours if I can be sure the recipe is going to be good and not just some experiment.
All the flavours is also difficult to get use to.
How do you guys search for recipes?
Edit: or are there well known mixers to follow on ELR?
I use the "what can I make" function. If I'm looking to expand my stash a bit, you can select (to the left of the search bar) "my flavors +1" and it will list recipes that you are missing one flavor from. Pick some that interest you and put the flavors in your cart for your next order.
Wow! This is probably the most perfect solution and reply. Tried it now and you've shown me something so useful. The amount of recipes that are showing up with just flavour missing is awesome.
It's basically what I'm trying to do I guess.. Expand my stash little bit by little bit.
That's how I started. Found a few recipes that I liked that were fairly simple (3-4 flavors max, nothing odd), and then started filling out with the missing flavor function.
This also helps out if it uses similar flavors or different brands and you sub in your own. It may not be exactly what the creator intended, but may still be good. If it's for your own use, it's no big deal.
There are some single flavor / one-shots listed to sift through, but works quite well.
I wouldn't worry too much about how old a recipe is, personally. When you start getting into the swing of things, you can easily modify a recipe to your personal tastes for your own use.
Hi. You can also select „weekly threads“ from above and post your flavors in the „what can I make“ thread. Make sure to add some information as to what type of profile you’re looking for. Good luck.
By the way, are you sure you chose the right flavor names on ELR? I‘m asking because that database is a mess and if you choose incorrect names, recipes won’t show up.
Have you joined and added your flavors to the flavor stash? If so you can select “What can I make?” from the drop down menu on the top right. Once the list is created you can click the time column and it will list the recipes by creation time and date.
ELR can be kind of tricky. A lot of their recipes ask for very high percentages of flavors and most of today’s flavors shouldn’t be used that high.
If you ever wonder about whether a flavor percentage seems high jump over to ATF and do a search for that flavor there. ATF’s average flavor percentages are much more realistic than ELRs.
I don't use ELR, but search ATF for 'developed' and then sort by rating see if any of them look good to you, I'm new as well and have had some success with their recipes, in particular Peanut Butter RY4 Cookie which is very nice. Another good one is Boss reserve Clone by Folkart.
Up until then it was all pretty average for me, the best rated old recipes were not convincing me DIY is the answer.
You are likely using the incorrect flavor names on ELR. Link your stash.

I try to pick a flavor I'm interested in and search for it on ATF. Then I check out the top 2-3 most popular mixes with it and see if anything matches the flavors I own / get a sense of how people are using it in a mix. Then I'll either mix as shown (assuming I have all flavors) or make a few minor tweaks based on what I'm going to include and try it out.
Iteration is key. They may not all be incredible mixes, try to ask yourself what you did and didn't like about the batch, and make adjustments to fit your tastes. Your palate / instincts will improve with time and practice.
Do you prefer ATF to ELR?
I do, but in all fairness I never really used ELR. My initial research upon joining the subreddit indicated that ELR contained a lot of older recipes that weren't ideal for today's mods, and often I would see posts linking recipes from ELR get the "cut all percentages in half" treatment.
ATF works for me, but my experience has been very one-sided.
There will come a new function on ELR to filter best recipes within a certain current time period. This is addressed and in programming. SmokyBlue is a good mixer to follow, but she uses only Flavorah. ELR had a Forum attached, so you can ask for recommendations there directly.
ELR has new reciepes being added but it's just that people are not reading then anymore. It could also be that many aren't DIYing as much as they used to. Apart from ELR you can also look at this other site.
DIY OR DIE on YouTube is a pretty amazing place you can find some good reciepes
