Convinced my FIL to let me make his liquid. Now he won't let me stop
submitted about 5 years ago by AnarchistP4W

So I've been telling my father in law for ages that he spends a small fortune on his eliquid. He's an experienced vaper but lazy when it comes to getting his juice. For about 4/5 years he's been vaping £3.99/10ml of blu juice. Too chemical for me.

So I did him a 60ml bottle of equvilant flavour and he was sceptical. Took him about 4 weeks to vape. Not bad going.

Now he's been pestering me to do him a big batch. Just finished 600ml worth and worked out that he's saved £200 on the equivalent! So much better value for money.

But I now think I've signed myself up for life...

Give a man a fish or teach a man to fish— there is always another option.

Make a fire for a man, and he is kept warm that evening. Light a man on fire, and he is kept warm for the rest of his life...

only if he ends up in hell

theres a gas station beside a jheovah witness church in my town, years ago someone walked up to the pump and soaked himself with gasoline, lit a lighter and ran into the jheovah church on fire

Mate, you're doing it wrong. My MIL was pestering me for juice so I made her 10mls of 5% FA Bread Crust. She hasn't visited since. Maybe tweak your recipe?

Just start charging him a fee

Yeah I charge my friends the material cost which keeps the requests from getting out of hand, while still being ultra cheap.

Make him pay for it

I dont think this is a bad idea tbh, itll help pay for supplies so they both can continue to be smoke free.

Like the previous comments said and I do agree, either charge him a fee to at least cover materials or teach him how to make it.

Yeah, I do ~ 33% vendor pricing and it keeps me stocked and able to experiment

Get him more involved and try to get him to do it himself.

What recipe did you use? I also agree that you gotta teach him how to do it so you're not stuck with a new job! :P

Knowing the op wants to save his FIL some money we can assume he has a good relationship with him and charging him the cost of making the juice i think its not a viable option (it’s not your friends we’re talking about) the better thing to do would be to motivate him to learn how to make it. You can maybe motivate him by having him mix other flavors he might like.

Just thinking outside the box a bit here..... if you divorced your wife, then he wouldn't be your father in law anymore, then you wouldn't feel obligated to make his juice anymore. Maybe too drastic? Probably.

Honestly, the best thing now that he sees it can be done is to either charge him a small fee, you know... F&F discount, or you teach him to make it. That's pretty much your only options... Well, unless you just tell him no and it doesn't sound like you really want to do that and are being nice by doing it for him in the first place....

Ah life lesson there. Always know what your getting into before signing up. Your options now are to teach him, keep mixing it for him, or be a disappointment.

just figure out how much it's worth for you to continue mixing it for him and charge him for future mixing. he won't mind paying considering you are still saving him a good bit compared to his alternative. the only other option is to teach him how to mix for himself. but i'm willing to bet he'd sooner pay you than to mix his own juice.

What you are doing is kind. Is your post because you want a way out? Or is it just a point of interest post?

Made the same offer for a half-sister-in-law; that I would mix up juice for her. The local shop was using TFA's RY4 Double and nothing else, was absolutely certain about this. They also made a "Smooth", which guessing was also a TFA flavoring. Even came close to cloning something she currently vapes. When discussing with her that I'd made a sizeable purchase for the DIY ingredients, she said "Don't mix any for me because I'm not going to vape it".

That floored me. When I asked why, she said she didn't trust me.

I did take it a tiny bit personal since I would never throw something that seemed iffy as to being safe if it's for someone else. But I thought, she can trust a bunch of strangers working out of a local brick-n-mortar versus someone in the family? And the commercial juice she buys, she has no clue who's mixing it.

I did believe once I convinced her I could do it, that she could do it as well. But alas, her paranoia is going to keep her from saving beaucoup dinero. (And yeah, I know that's from two different languages besides English :P)

Make it for him. Sell it to him for half of what he was originally paying. Capitalism is great :D

Let him pay for the ingredients and keep mixing it for him for free, good Karma shouldn't be underestimated. I mean, if 60ml lasted him 4 weeks, that 600ml batch will last almost a year, it's not like you'll be mixing for him all day.
