Over the past few months i have been too lazy to mix my own juice and decided to explore some "premium" juice and i have to say i was disappointed. Everything felt lacklustre and sickly compared with what i'm used to.
After a the hiatus from mixing my own juice, i have started making my own juice again and i have noticed that i am finding it a lot more satisfying than commercial juice by far. When i mix i just prefer the flavour to be a lot stronger, with no sweetener. premium juice is never strong enough for me and is way too sweet. It's almost like the effort of finding juice that suits my tastes makes it more effort than mixing my own.
I'm not sure if i'm in the minority but as much as i enjoy softer flavours, i can vape them constantly and never feel properly satisfied. I much prefer basic citrus or menthol that is bitter with no sweetener, it's more refreshing that way imo. It seems that very few commercial eliquids i could find really catered to this because they're mostly weak and nauseatingly sweet. I guess exploring more flavors didn't work well, but i'm very glad to be back to saving money and vaping juice i actually like.
Just a bit of a personal post but i just wanted to say how glad i am that this community exists. I really wasn't missing much trying out the "premium" brands and i'm just so happy to be back to using juice i actually like. I love y'all!
Yes, absolutely. in fact your post mirrors ALOT of my thoughts exactly. since ive gone DIY, i cannot stand sweetner prettttttyyy much on any level and find that i generally only like maybe 3 - 4% total (max) flavor. before i liked whatever came to me, but doing it myself...i like smooth, clean, simple and...well...healthy tasting?!? lol. 1% WS23 1% Polar Blast and 1% a mint or a light fruit and im done.
I 100% get the clean/healthy tasting thing. It's like the flavor is more real if that makes sense. Fruit flavors taste more juicy to me without sweetener.
it's like sweetener just flattens out the sour notes and the bite of the flavor and that totally ruins it for me. I guess the bite is what makes it taste cleaner, it has to have a bit of an edge if that makes any sense. I'm finding it hard to describe.
I hate you order a ejuice you think sounds great and its got so much sweetener its disgusting I'm not fan of artificial sweetener in anything .I make my ejuice without I like alot desert flavors if you can't make sweet enough without adding sweeteners then idk.Im sure they have there place just not for me.
I always reduce the sweetness of my mixes, because I prefer it more on the neutral to bitter side. Especially if there are many fruits. It's funny because in the beginning that's the main thing that hook me. Recently I tried one that I used to love back then and it tasted like sugar with some flavour.
Commercial eliquids pump it with sweeteners because taste would be flat otherwise. Pretty much like food industry.
Bitter fruit is the best. Sicily lemon with ice (pretty much ghetto lemonade) is my favorite. I love the throat hit. It just tastes so clean and almost natural if that makes sense, it tastes very close to homemade lemonade i had as a kid. Guess it sorta brings me back.
Been trying to find a good tart/green apple flavor that i like at the moment though. It's been hard to find apple flavors that don't taste too much like candy
I think you hit it dead on why people like DiY-
Too much sweetness? Use less or none at all.
Wish you could taste the lemonade more? Add a higher quality lemonade or a combination of lemonades or go total citrus and add a straight up lemon flavor.
The combinations are only limited by your imagination.
Im extremely new to DIY juices, mostly went to it because all the commercial juices I found are just way too sweet. Frankly the only thing I found was some tobacco flavored juices because they dont taste like disgustingly sweet and fake candy. Even some tobacco flavored juices I found were horribly sweet.
But in general I never thought switching to vape from cigs would be so complicated and time consuming. Just finding palatable juices has been a huge project, and has cost way more than I thought it would. Reddit has helped some, but I havnt really had any IRL advice from people. Which hasnt really helped.
I'm not super sure about tobbacco flavors but i use mostly fruit/citrus flavours and if i don't really like them very much, i generally take a small % of them and mix them with something else, (usually menthol or some other fruit flavor ). I make sure to do it in a small batch to try it and adjust it to my liking before scaling it up to making more.
I guess a similar thing could work with some tobacco flavors too though. Like if you're not super keen on a tobacco flavour i would imagine it might still work well if you tried adding a bit of caramel, almond, chocolate or some coffee flavor if you feel like it would pair with it well
Ya definitely, thats kind of what Im going to start to try.
If you want want some mellow tobacco flavors to try check out FA Soho and JF RY4 Double.
There are a few tobacco heads over in the DIY_eJuice Discord server (the link to it is pinned in the top post of this sub) and they can definitely point you in the right direction as well as many different other directions.
honerstly, i have no idea how many can vape so much fruit etc because they are usually sweet as fuck. i vape alot of custards, but not those "cheap" kinds, and as aslways has so little sweeter in it i can usually run my wick 2-3 times longer before i have to rewick, and gunk is damn hard to find..
also on subtject
alot of flavouring has sweetner in them, so dont go 0 sweeter, it not just adding more then what it allrdy has, and well, using a more "natrual" way of sweeting is always better, ALWAYS
I love sweetener but the great thing about mixing is i really get to control the level though. I like sweet juices and add sweetener to most that i make but some "premium" juices are still too sweet for my liking.
I always make my recipes without additional sweetener, then after it steeps i will slowly add sweetener until i hit where i like it. I have noticed i am grabbing other lighter sweeteners than cap ss when i do this.
I only bought commercial ejuice online once last year from a company that I've seen mentioned on here often and I made sure the add sweetener check box was unchecked. It wasn't bad at all and since I was new to ejuice and DIY I wanted to try a commercial ejuice so I can get a taste of what I should probably DIY that I will like or not like and I found I like fruit flavors more than desert flavors 80% of the time.
I use ec flavors liquor blends rather than DIY since I'm lazy and don't want to mix. You can add flavor shots and no sweetener. I do gin joint with a shot of lime and no sweetener and it works - I hate anything sweet. You could prob do a citrus/mint that way too.
