Nic in PG vs VG?
submitted about 5 years ago by rcreter

I've been getting my nic in a pre mixed pg/vg base at 0.6. I know that's not the most accurate for mixing so I want to pick up a nic solution at 100mg/ml. I already have straight vg and pg on hand. The options are getting the solution in vg or pg. My question is what's the difference? Taste? Shelf life?

PG is much easier to work with. Unless you're going very high or max VG mixes, I'd get the nic in PG.

+1 to this.

VG out the freezer is a right pain. Always use PG based nic now.

Another agreement here. Trying to pull a small amount of VG through a small needle syringe is hell. Since I'm usually mixing in no more than 4 xls of nic, there's no way I would get VG nic.

I super regretted getting 500ml of 100mg/ml VG nic. It took forever to finally get through it.

I have both in the freezer. Not sure on shelf life difference, it's probably minimal. I will say the pg is so much easier to work with, so I prefer to use it now.

Vg is good if you're shooting for max vg juice since most flavorings are already in pg too.

The difference really is in the solubility. Is that a word? Haha. PG nic is really just more easier to work with. When you receive your order it’s just easier to shake. You need to really decide what ratio you want to mix at. If your nic is in VG you really just need to shake it, like really shake it, before you start mixing it

VG is such pain in the ass on its own I would never contemplate VG nic.

I got mine in VG because i like higher nic salt 50/50 PG/VG juices and all the flavoring already come in PG. I didnt want to over dilute any of my juices with too much PG and have to add VG which would thin out the flavor concentrations. VG sucks to work with though.

Yep. I did pick up vg nic for my 50-50 high nic salt pod mixes. Looks like pg is the way to go for sub ohm

I subohm VG nic. Contrary to other opinions on here I actually prefer working with it versus PG.

I use a 60ml chubby gorilla bottle as my working nic container and the VG is super easy to dispense from it.

This. I was scrolling thru the comments waiting for someone to mention VG nic base for this reason exactly. True, PG is easier to work with, but is not a one size fit all solution.

Hi. It’s preference really. And it depends on the mg you vape. You stated 6mg/ml, which means you can choose either. VG based nic is thicker, harder to pour and needs more shaking before and after adding. PG based nic is thinner, easier to pour and blends into your mix more easily. Stored correctly (freezer, amber glass bottles with polycone caps, maybe argon wine preserver) both should have a similar shelf life. Good luck.

Ive had both and much prefer nic in PG as the reasons previously stated. much easier to work with and blends wonderfully. nothing worse than thick VG that just came out of the freezer.

I have nic in vg. It’s not that bad to work with.

I just started DIYing about 60 days ago, and bought VG 48mg nic. I transferred it to smaller amber glass bottles filled to the top, and into the freezer. I really wish I went with PG nic instead - the VG right from the freezer is like treacle. Even though I like 70/30, I could just as easily start mixing in 80/20 if I went with PG nic, and I wouldn't need to wait an hour for the VG Nic to thaw before I started mixing.

Why would u have to go to 80/20 if u had PG nic instead? I think ur mind is mixed around bud lol

I'm sensitive to PG and start to get headaches at less than 70/30 vg/pg.

VG nic would mean u could go higher VG ratio, so that would be a benefit for you to actually use the VG base nicotine

Thanks for all the advice folks! I had a feeling pg would be the consensus and I gotta start thinking of stocking up and storing

If you warm vg up in the microwave just for about 20 sec it makes it much easier to pull up in syringe.

Just as easy to do a warm water bath, just a touch safer n cleaner. I did a bottle of VG nic. But PG is better imo doesn't oxodise as easily and easier to work with.

PG is way better. stores better, mixes better, and lasts longer for long term. Quality can vary from brand to brand. I prefer mine clean n clear and have no noticeable trace of any flavour. I mix usually at 35pg 65vg for my DIY e juice.

Redbarron who do you get your pg nic from?

I find nic in VG is smoother. I also mix high VG/max VG juices. Just my 2 cents plus worth...
