Hi. For the past few months I've added ws-23 to all my fruit recipes for a refreshing vape during the summer warmth. But yesterday I felt like vaping a juice without cooling, so I mixed up one of my favorites. However, it was harsh as hell and gave me difficulty breathing for a while after vaping. Weird since I've never had issues with it prior to this. Popped the bottle in to my closet for the rest of the day and over night. Today I tried again and had the same issue. Decided to try and add ws-23 to it just to see and then it was smooth as butter again.
Anyone else that has experienced this? If so, how did you fix it? I don't really want to vape juices with cooling during winter as it is cold enough as it is during winter.
EDIT: After lots of testing I finally figured out what was up. A new set of coils and uncooled juice is smooth as butter again. Don't know what the issue with the coils were, but it was something.
Sounds like you've trained your throat to expect the cooling effect. Try adding a very small amount of ws-23, like 1 drop per 10ml. That might be enough to appease your throat, without providing a noticeable cooling effect.
I tend to find, that if I go from say a 6mg to about 5 and slightly drop the more acidic and throaty fruits a smidge I don’t get as “dry” a vape; without cooling of course. Generally I like to drop the nicotine content, rather than mess with the flavor balance.. some flavorings have a perfect balance, and if I mess with that, no matter what I MUST tweak it until I no longer feel as if i will be overstimulated by the sheer amount of throat hit while vaping in quick succession.. I am newer to DIY, however I do have a good taste for consistency in flavor and blends. The only other work-around is saltnic, but I am not going to be exposing that to the heat associated with sub-ohm vaping.. I suggest messing with nic content in freebase suspension based juices, for a smoother sub ohm vape (my ADV is Pineapple, Mango, Raspberry, and Strawberry.) “fruity flavor” only here. Hope this helps..(I enjoy cooling year round, but mix a non cooling bottle also)

It's possible that WS-23, or 2-isopropyl-n,2,3-trimethylbutyramide, has analgesic properties similar to menthol which masked the harshness of your juice.
Thing is, I've tested the VG PG and nic separately with no issues and the recipe I tried without any ws-23 at first is a juice I've made for about a year and a half with no issues prior to this.
Are you using a “hit” salt? I think as callmetheo pointed out, the analgesic properties may mask some “hit”. I’ve had a very similar experience to your original post but haven’t made anything without a touch of ws23 or coolada basically since I discovered the stuff. The ice is just a component i love.
Also, not medical advice but 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I had a tickle cough for a couple of weeks and I found that my icy vapes were super helpful and getting at that tickle. Probably covid huh
Not blaming it on the nic, but mix up a batch w no nic see if its same result. Also, mix up some w max vg to see if pg is the prob. I like ws23 also, but never had an issue w removing it and causing harshness.
I did that troubleshoot earlier today and there's no issue with my VG, PG or nic. The only factor that's causing the harshness is the lack of ws-23.
Try this trick .5% Bavarian cream tpa .5% sweet cream tpa
I use this to take out harshness in a mix
Give it a go and let me know if it works
With no ws23 of course ;)
