FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How'd you get your handle?

First things first – I go by 2 names in this here DIY mixing community (yes, very confusing). Let's start with the first one ..

Dico1337

I got an Xbox 360 back in '07 and needed a so called ”Gamer Tag” - I watched a lot of Jackass, Viva la Bam and such on MTV at the time – and there was this person - Brandon DiCamillo - who went by the nickname ”Dico”, so I just kinda' ”stole” that because I thought it sounded cool - but the name was already taken ofc. So I had to add some numbers – and the first thing that came to mind was ”1337”, from my time playing Counter Strike 1.6 – So Dico1337 just became the name I'd use on most things online.

As for my reddit handle .. well. I originally had a reddit account with the ”Dico1337” username, but .. forgot the password, and couldn't get access to it again. So I used one of my other names – Zany – which is something from my very short time as a comic artist. This is also the handle I use on ATF and ELR.

How long have you been mixing for?

I started in May last year (2019), so I haven't been mixing for that long – and I started out mixing with everything 1:1 for some reason. So an extra month or so, before I started mixing for real.

MTL or DTL?

Definitely DTL! - and a lot of air flow!- I can't do restrictive airflow or MTL, it just doesn't work for me, as I get most of my oxygen through my atomizer.

Current flavor or profile obsession?

I wouldn't say that I have any ”obsession” per se – I change flavor profiles quite often. Can never vape the same thing for too long, as Ill get bored with it. I do however always come back to my trusty 'ol strawberries and cream recipes.

Most/Least disappointing flavors that was/not as expected?

I guess this is where I tell you about the most disgusting flavor I've tried? Well .. I can't really decide on a ”winner” so I'll give you 3.

• FLV Guanabana – I heard a lot about this flavor, and I was expecting some kind of tropical banana/pineapple kind of weird strangeness unlike anything I've tried before. Well.. I was very surprised when I tried it and it tasted just like some bad hashish, you got in some back alley drug deal – real dirty and piney, like licking the ground in a mossy forest after a heavy rainfall and everything had time to get a bit musty – Yuck!
• WF Angel Cake – Ah yes, a cake flavor – Sweet and airy angel cake. How could this ever be bad? Well .. If it tastes like a half wet, moldy and musty inflatable pool toy, I'd say something went wrong in the creation of this flavor, or my palate is just all kinds of messed up (which I suspect might be it btw.)
• SA Blackberry/RF Blackberry – I very much enjoy FM Blackberry, so I went on the hunt to see if there was something that could match this in pure awesomeness. First up was RF Blackberry – I heard a lot of praises about this flavor, and since it is part of the Blackberry Trinity, I had to give it a try. Now .. there has been some rumors floating around, about a ”bad batch” of RF flavors – and I cannot say for sure if this was something I fell victim of, but I sure hope so, cause if this flavor is supposed to taste like tree bark drenched in sweat .. well .. then I don't like how RF creates their flavors!Lastly just a quick note on SA Blackberry – I just picked it up on a whim, thinking maybe this Blackberry would be better than RF .. but no, it just tastes like straight up hand lotion. Even coats your mouth! UUUURRRKKH!

Mixing Milestone?

I guess I am too new and without enough talent, to have reached any milestones – but just the fact that I've made recipes that some other mixer has liked it. That's pretty good in my book.

Recipes you admire/love?

To be honest I haven't tried that many recipes. I mostly vape SFT's and my own stuff (and I can't be here promoting my own stuff, nor would I want to) It is also rare that I mix up the same recipe more than once or twice, as I easily get bored and want something new and exciting – but I do return to some favorites every now and then.I guess I'd say that the recipes I've enjoyed recently is Blue Frost Revisited by Apexified and Strawberry Fruity Snacks) by robertshawbert – I go easy on the cactus and swedish gummy in that one though.

White whale?

I guess that would be a good banana ice cream – A remnant of my childhood. There was this Dennis the Menace ice cream bar, where his hair was the sweetest and most decadent banana ice cream. I have tried a lot of different banana flavors, but nothing really comes close – and to be honest I can't vape banana for too long before it starts being a bit nauseating.

How would you describe your mixing style?

My shtoyle, eh? Well .. I get most of my ideas by doing SFT's and then I just kind of throw something together I think might work – most times it's ”ok” but rarely is it good on the first try. Then I start looking at what could be changed, and what notes I want to accentuate – and for the most part I've moved on to something else by version 4 or 5.

Advice for new mixers?

I guess .. do a lot of single flavor testing. Get to know your ingredients – that's what worked for me. I remember starting out by just throwing percentages at something, and just kind of ”winging it”, which never turned out good. It was vapable, but actually knowing what you're working with, and somewhat knowing what you're doing really helps.

Another thing I'd recommend is watching Noted – I watch the show every week, and it keeps me adding flavors to this ever growing list of stuff I'd like to try. These people sure have saved me a lot of pain and money. So a huge thanks to u/ID10-T, u/mlNikon and u/CheebaSteeba !
