Newbie Scale Question
submitted over 5 years ago by [deleted]

Literally just got my DIY supplies and just want to make sure I’m doing it correctly.

When using a scale, do you zero out each time you start adding a different flavour/PG/VG and nic?

For example, let’s say in the recipe there is Flavour A - 2g, Flavour B - 3g and Flavour C-3g.

The scale is Zero. I add 2grams of flavour A and the scale is reading 2g. Do I now zero it out and the proceed to add 3 grams of flavour B and so on?

Yes, zero out every time. That way you keep the control.

For some reason I never thought of this. I would be adding decimals together in my head. Thanks for the moment of clarity on how stupid I was doing it lmao. Newer to diy, so still learning.

Lol. Well, you’re set now. You have to be quick about it though in case your scale has an automatic shut off. I don’t mean like rush it but if your scale doesn’t sense any activity it could shut off on you

Yea I got to get one with a wall plug in. I only have a little pocket scale right now that's super old, I didn't get it to weigh eliquid lol. But it's 0.01 so it gets the job done for now. I've been just tapping it here or there to keep it awake. But I usually try and have everything ready so it doesn't turn off. I was looking at the aws 501 but it seems for every good review there's a bad one saying it only lasted a month.

Lol, I haven't used a calculator for a couple of years. Pretty straight forward using metric/drug dealing math..

Don't do what I keep doing: My scales have two clear plastic covers, one for the whole unit and one that just goes over the weighing tray. The number of times I've forgotten to remove the latter only to see the scale not registering when I start pouring!

I place my bottle on my scale and hit Tare. Add my first flavor, hit Tare, etc, etc.
