The Australian government is baning the importation of nicotine into Australia after July the 1st

Thank you for clarifying. I saw the headline and went "wait, what?! When did this happen?!"

Then I saw Australia and my heart started beating again.

Looks like the law only targets "vaporizer nicotine". (So you should be able to continue importing nicotine that you intend to use as an insecticide in your garden...)

by Zany1337over 5 years agoSir-Mix-a-Lot

There is a VERY big difference between the two though - No one should vape nicotine intended for insecticide use.

No one should consume "bath salts" either.

It could be a labelling loophole.

I didn't say you should buy nicotine from a garden supply store.

River Supply, LNW, etc. will sell you nicotine without inquiring about your intended purpose. But the Australian authorities might inquire about your intended purpose; if you tell them it's for your garden, the burden of proof to prove otherwise would be on them.

Pretty shitty that they have done this with such little warning. Instead of declaring a 6 or 12 month phase out to give people time to adjust to 0 nicotine. They are just going to force some people back on to cigarettes. Another example of the ever increasing stand over state Australia is becoming.

Technically it was already illegal to do without a prescription. Doesn't mean this isn't fucked though

I cant believe the lack of notice about this coming in

Man i usually have many reasons to abhor the Australian govt but this takes the cake. This is more or less a complete destruction of vaping as a harm reduction strategy for cigarettes. Will be buying a litre today and hoping it doesn't oxidise before im ready to give it up. I am definitely going to be getting involved in some activism (not sure how useful that will be but have to try). 220k fine will never be enforced for someone attempting to import for personal use though. The drug laws are such that you can get huge fines for importing controlled substances (or huge jail terms or both) but no one ever receives the maximum penalty unless they are importing many millions of dollars worth for undeniable, easily provable in court commercial enterprise.

1 points

by Carl_read_Itover 5 years ago

The fine is 1000 penalty units. It does not say up to a maximum of 1000 penalty units. This is a set in stone fine of 220,000 aud.

by aeoliumover 5 years ago

It'd be the same as if you'd ordered after 1 July. Confiscation and fine

2 points

by scoobsover 5 years ago

How much is the fine :S I have some on route from the US that prob wont arrive til after 1st July..

6 points

by aeoliumover 5 years ago

Max $220,000. They've addressed your question explicitly, saying they will seize your order if they find nicotine. See here for the news release. Best order somewhere closer (i.e. New Zealand). VapourEyes have said they'll honour all orders up to 22-23 June to help ensure orders arrive in time.

3 points

by scoobsover 5 years ago

Thank you for the link. I really hope if it arrives after 1 July that they just seize it and don't fine me..

> "The Australian Border Force (ABF) is obliged by law to seize e-cigarettes containing vaporiser nicotine which arrive in Australia on or after 1 July 2020. > > The ABF is also obliged to send you a seizure letter giving you an opportunity to object to the seizure of the e-cigarettes. For example, a valid objection may be because they do not contain vaporiser nicotine. The government, through the TGA laboratories, may also test products that are suspected of containing nicotine."

The fine is up to $222,000. I don't know if they would fine you or not. It's always been technically illegal to get it here. According to the rules in effect as I write this you can order 3 month supply, for your own use with a prescription from a doctor. According to our government nicotine is a scheduled poison and you need a license to possess it for other uses.

Hope all goes well for you and you get your order.

Vapoureyes has closed there site for now.

https://www.vapoureyes.co.nz/

They have a link to contact health minister.

https://www.greghunt.com.au/contact/contact-greg/

10 days notice is a dick move. There "reason" is so weak it infuriates me.

"Evidence suggests that the use of e-cigarettes by non-smoking youths predicts future take up of smoking. In the USA, there was a 78% increase in the number of high school children who are vaping over the most recent 12-month period surveyed. Without action, Australian youth will also be at risk.

The Victorian Poisons Information Centre reported 41 cases of liquid nicotine poisonings in 2019, up from 21 in 2018. In July 2018, a Victorian toddler died from e-cigarette liquid nicotine consumption."

So teens being teens, and parents not securing there nic. Bullshit.

by wvwvwvwwover 5 years ago

"Poisoning" like "alcohol poisoning". It's not like we have a pile of 40 toddler corpses, more like 40 people spilled it on their hands and had palpitations.

What are we going to do? Cigarettes again?? Hope there is a loophole to get nic. How will chemists dispensing nicotine work? Will scripts from doctors be easy to attain and how long before chemists stock nicotine as this has been so rushed??? Didnt even get a chance to ween off nicotine it was all done so fast

1 points

by [deleted]over 5 years ago

They say you can get a nic script from a dr. Its 'straya, so the script will be a ballache to attain, and the pricing will be super spastic.

The govt wants you to go back to the smorks. Check out The minister of health. LOL.

$17B. Greg Hunt. What a colossal bellend.

You can eMail him here.

Anyone got any tips for where to order from now? All the usual NZ stores seem to be sold out/not taking orders and I missed the boat :(

Same lad, it's rough out here. All the decent NZ shops seem to be sold out/closed to Aus now. I doubt ordering from any other country would arrive before the July cutoff either. Guess I will either have to go cold turkey or switch back to the ol' analogue vapes.

I managed to buy some nic salts from urbanvape today but stock is limited and will go fast, Hope it gets here before the cutoff :/

Guys, I ordered nicotine on july 19, and I'm worried it won't arrive before july 1, I've tried to cancel but have gotten 0 responses, what do I do please help.

Where did you buy it off from?

1 points

by lisakent17about 5 years ago

I am from Australia. The nicotine products are banned here. But I am a vaper for a long time. I started vaping to quit smoke. I take very less amount of nicotine. I used to purchase the nicotine-based vape products from one online vape store in New Zealand called Momentum Vape Co. They outsource in Australia. I hope I will get the product flawlessly from them.
