I'm in a bit of a mixing slump, do you guys ever feel that way? What recipes have helped you get back in the game?
submitted over 5 years ago by urs1ne

I've been mixing for a few years and usually find about 1 out of every 5 recipes I make enjoyable. For the last couple months I feel like nothing had been tricking my trigger, even some of my previous favorites like Boss Reserve Clone. Do you guys ever get that way?

The last recipe I remember really wowing me was Golden Snozzberry Custard so it's been a while. Do you guys have any staple recipes you like to make when all else fails?

Whenever all my mixes start to fall flat I usually leave them to steep while vaping 1.5% FA lemon siciliy stand-alone or just unflavored for 2-3 days. I use lemon on its own as almost a palate cleanser

I love that lemon Sicily, too bad you have to vape it right away, or it loses flavor. But vaping it right away is no problem! Have you tried Concord Grape w/Stevia? That's another quick, good vape, Butter Mint, too.

Just a heads up if you’re in the market for it - River Supply has Concord Grape in their close out section for $1 per 15ml.

The boss reserve is gold for me. But if I'm bored I always turn to grape. Like the artificially one. Some people on this sub don't even call it grape, they just call it purple

There's many ways to go about this. This is a pretty good start

I usually buy random comercial liquid to discover new flavours and then look for DIY recipes for them.

My last discovery popcorn and honey, delicious ;)

I've helped people quit smoking for some time now and usually it's not too hard to find them something they enjoy vaping,. At one point I had a person who didn't like any e-juice we tried, 20+ recipes, all of them not "meh" but "my god this vaping thing is not going to work". Finally we tried a rather plain (but strong) menthol recipe. He iked it and it kept him off the cigarettes ever since.

Since then I've tried or suggested the same recipe in a few other cases and there seems to be a pattern that also works for people who want a break from the creams and custards for a bit.

Anyway, this is the recipe on ELR (and there's some pretty verbose notes too., jesus. I guess I was compensating for a rather basic recipe).

BTW recipe says 4% FW Extreme Ice, but you can go up to at least 10% if you like. Extreme Ice is not that extreme. To me it tastes like old school chewing gum, or a well rounded mix of menthol, peppermint and/or wintergreen. Add to your liking. I do believe people build a tolerance to cooling agents, i.e. after some time you'll need more to achieve the same effect. But I'm not 100% sure, maybe 10% Extreme Ice would have been fine from day one...

Starbucks Drink got me out of a slump. I've mixed a bunch of recipes with LA Lemonade, and it's easily my favourite. Perfect for summer too.

Skip down to the section on 2 flavor mixes and check out the resources there. Try some pairings out.

That's funny, Golden Snozzberry Custard was the last recipe that really blew me away, too. Not that others haven't been great, but none of them have been so surprisingly great.

If I get into a slump, I kinda just wait it out. Wait til inspiration strikes or until I am in need of something else or until I crave something again. I got enough 'shit' mixes at any time that sure, aren't the greatest, but they give me something to vape and to think about what I could have done to make it better later on.

Another thing that tends to help me, is just get fucking weird with it. If you take a look at my ATF mixes, you'll see I got shit like Tide Pod, Nut Roll, Mashed Potatoes. Are they serious mixes? No (Well, Nut Roll kinda was) but fuck it, why not?

(Inspiration struck when I decided to look at the savory flavors from One on One... Yeah, it may get weird.)

I go looking for profiles I haven't tried yet, or buy new flavors. SFT'ing something new always inspires me to make new recipes.

I'm in a big slump right now too.

for some reason whenever I go to mix something new, it ends up being bland and boring, or very "thin". I also assume that I'm suffering from vapours tongue, with the majority of fruits tasting like bath water.

the only recipe I can taste contains my two most hated flavours: inw grape & FW grape soda... I know they're popular, but they're just way too sickly for me, usually.

mixing them both together however was something I never thought of doing (assumed it'd be sucralose sick) & this recipe is v. juicy, helps keeps my tastebuds salivating & satisfied, esp with some cap bubblegum, which is something else I've always struggled to taste (without my tongue drying up like chalk).

I believe I added approx 4% CAP bubblegum to it (I poured the 30ml I made into three 10ml bottles so I could try some things. could've been more/less in the one I used the bubblegum in)

+ I didn't have VT creaming soda so I subbed it out with VT fizzy sherbet @ 2% & FLV cream @ 1%.

I usually go to the 1/5 recipes that I found enjoyable. Tweak them a bit to try and make it better to your liking

I try to come up with a new flavor profile with the concentrates that I have on hand . I keep maybe 25 different flavors on hand and I just try different percentages with them, that's how I made my ADV.

i've been keeping a vape flavor ideas text file on my desktop so that when i get an idea for something i think i'd like to try to make, i can open that up and either add new ideas or start working out exactly what i need and how to go about creating it.

Whenever I get weary of artificial flavors, I reach for the natural simplicity of Stixxmixx NET or INW Natural Mint. Both make for good palate cleansers.

When I have no inspiration, I vape one-flavor or no-flavor juice.
