WEEK 57
> Welcome back to another thread for sharing your impressions of single flavors you've tried. Unlike our flavor reviews which go in to a lot more detail, this is the place for brief notes. Here's an example from last week's thread:
/u/ID10-T on WF Blueberry Gummy Candy - Plus one for delicious, plus one for versatility, minus one for authenticity. It doesn’t really taste as much like a blueberry gummy candy as a blueberry fruit snack, which is awesome. Like one of those fruit snacks where artificial flavors are involved, but there’s also some real fruit in it. Nothing I would call an off-note here. Sweet with a deep, saturated flavor and full chewy mouthfeel.

22) TFA hazelnut DX - you can smell the butyric acid on the bottle. I am terrified. I don’t taste the offensive note up front, but it’s leaving me,with the after taste of barf in the back of my throat. I dripped this on top of the non-DX version in half of an effort to minimize the Butyric note.
21) EUR Roasted Hazelnut - it’s almost the same as the fresh hazelnut, but the sweetness is tamped down by some vague smokiness. So, sort of bog water filtered through a campfire.
20) EUR Fresh hazelnut - up front vague sweetness, but the finish is all the funky smell right around the edge of a pond. Sort of a muddy water and damp moss vibe.
19) HC Hazelnut - tastes plasticky or vinyl. The nut flavor is there, but it’s faint and generally not terribly good.
18) NF Hazelnut - slightly burnt flavor, not sweet, It is nutty, but bitter like over-roasted nuts and generally unpleasant.
17) NV Hazelnut - Not terribly potent and has a little bit of funk to it. Kind of inoffensive, but generally not what I’m looking for. Not an acrid burnt taste like the nuts were roasted too long, not barfy. Just kind of “off” like there’s a faint bitterness that is out of place on the aftertaste.
16) TFA Hazelnut - It’s actually not bad. It’s forgettable beyond all reason, but it’s not bad. I know Dave has mentioned that it contains Butyric Acid, but I’m not getting anything particularly barfy or bile-like here up front. maybe a hint of it at the back end, but nothing really problematic. (I did steep it for a week to make sure I gave it a chance). It is sort of like a lot of the others, where it feels like it needs to be pushed higher than I think is reasonable.
15) FF Hazelnut - faint forgettable nuttiness. Nothing worth really digging this deep for. It kind of reads hazelnut but I feel like that’s a matter of suggestion more so than the actual flavor. Just really really forgettable, but on the plus side, nothing about it is offensive.
14) CAP Hazelnut v2 - rather soft, not creamy but not dry. It’s okay but it’s not really standing out in any meaningful way.
13) MB Nut Hazelnut - Very weak at 2%, almost flavorless. Doubled and flavor now present. Soft bordering on creamy but without a milky aspect. This feels like an acceptable, if somewhat forgettable option. Delosi-esque.
12) BF Hazelnut - weaker than others at 2%, mild but clear hazelnut flavor. Not dry. No chemical notes, just kind of “okay”
11) JF Hazelnut - Really, really soft. It’s present, but it’s delicate. Added 1% to orig. Batch at 1.5% (now 2.5) it is now markedly more present, but it is still pretty delicate.
10) SCE Hazelnut - surprisingly competent. Wet, somewhat closer to general nuttiness than actual hazelnut, and lacking presence, but nothing “off” here. It just disappears rather quickly from the palate. Pleasant but forgettable.
9) OOO Hazelnut - sweet, more “generally nutty” than hazelnut, but agreeable enough. I wish there was a more defining bit of hazelnut here because it does sell the idea of a nut well, just not any one in particular.
8) RF SC Hazelnut - slightly astringent at 2% but presence is well balanced overall. Probably the driest of the offerings, but the flavor comes through pretty well. Might be well served alongside tobaccos, creams, or caramels but could be too dry for most bakery.
7) TFA Hazelnut Praline - This is like a store brand version of FA Soho. There’s no tobacco here, it’s more generally nutty than hazelnutty, but it is sweet. I get where this would be used, but I can’t see how this is better than just using Soho
6) TP Chocolate Hazelnut - this stuff smells phenomenal. Just straight up nutella on the nose. In testing the flavor leans more toward the hazelnut than the chocolate by a fair bit. It’s a little dry-ish and that makes the little bit of astringency noticeable, but I don’t think that would be a hurdle in a mix. Something to pair with either a little more chocolate to lean into the nutella, tobacco, or caramels/creams where the astringency would be easily buried.
5) FW Creamy hazelnut - softer, much softer than the other FW hazelnut. this is basically coffee creamer, so this works well as the name implies it should.
4) TP Haus of Hazelnut - Actually quite good. Reminds me of a dryer version of FW’s hazelnut, not quite as sweet. Perhaps a bit more natural and less reminiscent of coffee creamer overall. This might be a less versatile but better overall hazelnut.
3) WF Roasted Hazelnut - pretty soft flavor, not exactly getting a heavy “roasted” vibe, which is good. Added 1% from initial 1.5% test: much more full, well balanced and nutty. Not like a hazelnut creamer, but a really well balanced hazelnut that would play up in bakery or tobaccos. Generally quite good and not over-sweet.
2) FW Hazelnut - it’s soft, nutty and generally very agreeable. Not milky/creamy so it isn’t an outright coffee creamer, but it’s not dry either. Very much the hazelnut you’d expect in a coffee creamer though. Generally quite enjoyable and versatile enough that it could find home in tobacco, coffee, cereal, bakery, or likely many other recipes.
1) FA Hazel grove - This is the single most authentic Hazelnut of the bunch. With that, probably far from the most versatile, but goddamn is that accurate. It is, predictably, sweeter than hazelnuts, but it doesn’t read like the artificial hazelnut or candyish. It reads like the real thing, and is very enjoyable because of it.
Pretty similar to yours, I think.
TFA Hazelnut - Lightly sweet, nutty, slightly dry but still creamy. Not blatantly hazelnut, more vaguely nutty. Also, vomit. Just a hint of it, but enough to ruin it for me.
FLV Hazelnut 0.25% - This is either a beyond super-concentrated flavor that requires dilution or it is an absolute dumpster fire. There’s a hazelnut in there somewhere but even at one-quarter of a percent, it also tastes like GASOLINE. WTF Flavorah. I gave this another chance at 0.13% and it’s considerably more vapeable, but still not right. The gasoline disappeared or at least calmed down into something like green unripe nut skin kind of thing, astringent and weird. Hazelnut is quite recognizable but that off note on top is off-putting. The base is sweeter than I recall and has a thick, creamy feel, but it’s at best a raw hazelnut with that nut skin flavor, and it’s going to be difficult to work with if half of a quarter of a percent is the difference between raw hazelnut and raw hazelnut dipped in 87 octane.
SC Hazelnut - Maybe not burned but like extra dark roasted? So much so that it kind of reminds me of a coffee flavor, definitely nutty but also has kind of a burned butter-flavored popcorn off-note, like coffee flavors, but nowhere near as intense or offensive. Not entirely sure what to do with this & and it probably fades, but could be fun to play with.
CAP Hazelnut V2 - I'm apparently alone here, but I found this one to vape aggressively dry and a little harsh, not nearly as good as some other options of Hazelnut. Tastes ok, but just doesn’t vape well at all.
FW Creamy Hazelnut - It’s an artificial hazelnut flavor. It’s weird because actually drier and LESS CREAMY and smooth than the regular Hazelnut. Lightly sweet, seems to have a little vanilla cream flavor to it, but without the nice creamy feeling or mouthfeel that often accompanies vanilla.
FW Nutella Actually tastes pretty good. Cocoa note is not violently artificial and it seems to be free of band-aids or rubber or all the various other things wrong with chocolates, but needs to be brought forward a bit with additional chocolate. It's like Nutella with the chocolate:hazelnut ratio inverted. Hazelnut flavor is good, as you’d expect from FW. Overall though, not nearly thick, creamy, or sweet enough for Nutella. Maybe needs some added cream like maybe a Bavarian Cream. Could be a little TFA Dulce De Leche wouldn’t hurt it. Seems like it could work well enough in bakeries like cupcakes with nutella frosting or waffles with nutella where the nutella is just a component but not as a full-on nutella vape. Could be an ingredient that would tie together any kind of chocolate and nut recipe.
WF Hazelnuts & Cream It’s like vaping Hazelnut Vanilla Coffee Creamer. Not the powdered kind. The Hazelnut tastes fairly artificial but that coffee creamer proves that’s not necessarily a bad thing. The cream is rich and vanilla with a light dairy note and it vapes smooth. It’s very sweet. Tastes like it’s just waiting for a little bit of a coffee flavor that isn’t gross (good luck with that!). It’s a little cream heavy; you could add some more hazelnut flavor if you wanted to bring the nut forward.
FA Hazel Grove - Realistic nut, very lightly sweet, really has some nut meat body to it, slightly roasty, not thin like a many FA flavors, not too dry. Around 1.25% starts to get a little bit of a green nut skin off note so stay below 1%.
WF Roasted Hazelnut - Lightly roasted, fairly sweet (perhaps a little too sweet), realistic hazelnut flavor with a rich, creamy body and some butteryness to it, really similar to FA Hazel Grove but softer and with more of a natural fatty or kind of buttery aspect, more richness, but less nuttiness.
FW Hazelnut - It tastes like hazelnut spread or hazelnut butter, slightly sweet and somewhat creamy, smooth, very pleasant. Thick textured. Not especially dry, probably not dry enough to be an actual nut by itself if that is the goal. More valuable as an additive than as an actual hazelnut flavor. When added to creams it gives them a malty note and when added to fruits - especially strawberries - in a small amount it makes them more realistic and bloody ripe but not overripe.
Fantastic write up, truly amazing work. When you say "astringent" do you mean harsh like throat hit?
lemon meringue pie CAP 8% - rather close to the real thing.with less tang of lemon. reminds me of a jello version of the pie. just like cheesecake, the jello version is lighter, not as tart or rich/sweet. which for me is perfect.
NY Cheesecake Capella
They should call this '1990s northern British Cheesecake'. It's not a baked American Cheesecake. It's mashed up digestive biscuits and butter, so much butter, with Philadelphia cream cheese whacked on top. It's really good. Strong flavour. Room temperature funky yoghurt, but in a good way. This is a proper single flavour. I'd happily vape this standalone, it's horribly delicious. I hate it and I also love it. Superb. One of the better Cappella flavours I've tried. Buttery as fuck. I really like this.
Lemon Meringue Pie Capella
Soft all over. This envelopes you in it's nothingness. I want to like this more than I actually do. It's just a bit meh. At 4% it's a touch thin. Nothing offensive about this at all. Nice standalone. I want to love this but I just can't. I enjoyed vaping this. Fuck my life.
