I know that a lot of sweeteners and commercial juices use Sucralose, which brings up safety concerns. What is the general consensus on Sucralose? Also, are there alternatives or is it even worth sweetening juices?
If you have 20 minutes to spare, DIYorDIE has an excellent video that explains everything about this.
Here is the thread he posted it in originally.
My personal takeaway is that while sucralose is kinda sketchy, it's nowhere near as bad as what is in cigarettes. So if you need to use sucralose to keep vaping and stay off cigs, go for it.
Ugh, I just looked up CAP Super Sweet in the Safety Compendium/Database and it’s categorized as “Avoid.”
Seems like sucralose is noted as “evidence this ingredient is toxic when vaped.”
I guess that 30mL I just ordered will remain unopened...
I think of it as a spectrum, not as safe/unsafe.
0 is breathing nothing but fresh clean air. 10 is smoking cigarettes. 1 would be vaping nothing but unflavored no-nic juice. If CAP Super Sweet makes the difference between 5 and 6, I'm not gonna sweat it.
Shit. Been using super sweet forever. I also have tpa sweetener however.
I wouldn't worry about it, sucralose is in just about every single concentrate out there.
> is it even worth sweetening juices?
It's like with espresso: if the beans are good, adding sugar would ruin the beautifully complex flavor. If the beans are shitty, adding sugar can make it half-drinkable by partially hiding the off-flavors.
Many commercial juice makers follow the motto: "If you can't make it taste good, at least you can make it taste sweet."
Mind if I ask what's the name of this compendium?
I hate sweetners in my juice, I'm not sure what sweeteners taking the market by storm lately in commercial products but it's horrible in my opinion, it's ruined juices I used to love. I make all of my juices now anyway, but really disappointing. It's like it leaves a layer of juice on my tongue, same feeling as an rda spitting juice on my tongue, without the burn thankfully lol
