As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
#This week, this is also where you can comment to win the Alchemist Flavors Pack ($70 value!) from Flavorah and the new Flavorah recipe book!
This pack includes Hazelnut, Beer Nuts, Peanut Butter, Pistachio, Carrot, Clove, Fire Cinnamon, Ginger, Heat, Kinako Soy, Lovage Root, Oak Barrel, Persimmon Spice, Red Cinnamon, Wood Spice, and Yam.

All of these nut flavors have really been pecan my interest. I have two now and am trying to broaden my shellection for butter or for worse.
I cannutella you how to use this flavor in a recipe, but I would probably pair it with a biscuit, some butternut, and a cream.
Well I can see this walnut get me anywhere so I’ll cashew later!
So, as not to be a worthless leech...what are people’s thoughts on things that pair/mix well with macadamia besides chocolate, coconut?
I’m inexperienced and haven’t tried mixing anything like this, but I could see a few other sweet pairings working - dulce de leche, creme brulee or flan or other custards, maple, butter rum, perhaps bourbon or brandy or other sweetened booze, and a sweet tobacco. Actually, the idea of a Soho-based macadamia tobacco blend is what I feel most urging me to add a well-reputed macadamia flavor to my next order - I haven’t yet worked with nut flavors other than pistachio and almond. I have zero ideas about non-sweet mixes with macadamia.
It seems like dessert flavors would tend to hide the macadamia flavor or at least relegate it to a background “general nuttiness” rather than highlighting the characteristics of macadamia. But I’m a newbie here.
When you used pistachio and almond did you try them with and without acetyl pyrazine? What recipes did you make?
Pistachio is something I’d really be interested in for something like a mehalabia (Middle Eastern milk pudding) eJuice. Some people also use almond, but I think the traditional mehalabia I’m used to is flavored with cardamom, pistachio, rose, and hibiscus.
Coffees
That’s a good one.
Do you have any coffee concentrates or recipes to recommend?
I haven’t tried any coffee eJuices yet but the ones I’ve seen (and probably have in my backlog of commercial stuff) look like sweetened coffee drinks.
I drink my coffee black with no sweetener and I’m wondering if that is something that can be replicated in a juice. Or if it’s just not something that works in vape form.
WF SC Macadamia Nut is where it's at. I once started a White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookie recipe, which has since gone unrefined. I found great success in using WF SC Macadamia Nut at 1.5% along with FA Nut Mix at 0.5%.
Backing that one up with a little of another nut sounds like a great idea. I wonder how a tiny bit of FLV Beer Nuts would do with it in a cookie?
Can’t wait for watermelon week, I’m not into bakery style or tobacco flavours.
Wait, is there something specific that needs to be commented to enter for the free kit?
On a serious note, I’d love to see some really good cheesecake flavors. I’ve had a hard time finding a decent cheesecake of the shelf.
Well, how about I just add cheesecake to the FOTW agenda?
I’d love that. And considering how many weeks you have planned out it may give me a chance to try my hand at making my own juices.
What have you tried? There are a few good ones. Much like any other recipe profile, it needs to be built upon
I tried Mamasan’s Purple Cheesecake, Beard No. 5 (strawberry cheesecake), Om Vapor’s blueberry cheesecake, and another one I can’t think of. All of them (except mamasans) has a decent fruit flavor but none of the good cheesecake flavor I’m looking for. And I’ve never gotten into DIY juice but with the pending changes I’m seriously looking into it. Just not sure how or where to start.
Definitely looking forward to 'Murica next week. Have well over 100 flavors (closer to 150-200, which prolly pales in comparison to some of you here) but no macadamia. Hell, the only two nuts I have (insert joke here) are FA Almond and FW Hazelnut.
And yes, the only reason I posted this is for the flavors pack and I'm shameless.
A hard nut to crack.
Here are some fun facts: "Macadamia nuts are not picked from the tree but are fully ripened when they fall and are then harvested. Tough nut to crack: it takes 300 lbs. per square inch to break the macadamia nut shell, hardest of all nut shells. U.S. is the largest consumer (51%) with Japan following at 15%."
"Macadamia trees can take up to 5 years to grow their first nuts. But once they get started, they can keep producing beautiful macadamias for over 100 years!"
Do you have some facts?
Freaking love and enjoy mac nuts IRL (keto guy here) but don't have one mac nut flavor so interested in getting my nut cracked in this realm. Lol. Im thinking wf sounds like a top contender but I guess we'll see.
Can't believe I won a flavor pack last week. Flavorah is such an awesome company, and as dave stated in the show the majority of that pack are not on my shopping list but will be super useful!
As far as this week in terms of vape flavors I could see mac nut helping sell a pie crust and even in a cookie mix!
Macadamia nuts are the worst nuts!
Yeah, I said it!
that's some bullshit. you've never had a macadamia nut, then.

macadamia and salmiak anyone?
Man, One day I'm gonna go against my better judgement, test the strength of my stomach and start trying to make savory recipes, despite the consensus that it's a terrible idea. Cuz all I can think of besides cakes and white chocolate cookies with macadamia nut is salads, crepes and seafood.
I like buttered toast with Cinnamon. Imagine a bouji recipe that's toast with butter and then sprinkled with nuts. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
I check this post every week just for the puns.
A chocolate chip macadamia nut cookie vape would be amazing.
For next week's tobacco flavors I wonder if anyone has ever tried to recreate a Neport. I quit smoking but every once in awhile I get a real pang for a Newport.
Can't wait for the watermelon and cheesecake weeks 🤣
well stealing totally from ediblemalfunction what do you think of
MAC AND CUSTARD
macadamia (wf) 1.5 , nut mix (fa) 0.5 , custard (inw) 1.5 ,
vanilla classic madagascar (fa) 1.00 , new york cheesecake (cap) 3.00
perhaps with a bit of sugar cookie or biscuit ?
any thoughts ?
I didn't get to look to see how many macadamia nuts there even are but nut vapes seem to be on the whole a pretty decent round of flavors, leaning towards dryness when not as good. Looking forward to hearing the BEST one so that I can save the moolah.
that said, real macadamia nuts have a super high fat content compared to other nuts, less protein. another fun fact i didn't know: theyre native to australia. who knew? Probably the Indigenous people of Australia, but shoot, I always thought they were Hawaiian. Man, this forum is so educational, it hurts.
Noted Ep. 150: MACADAMIA NUT (ft. EyeMSam)
(Aired on 11/05/2020)
(Ranked from worst to first)
Get Suckered Macadamia: Terrible. Tastes like the smell of an engine smoking from an oil leak. Roasted nuts with burnt oil. 11.38
Macadamia nuts are pretty light in flavour, kind of bland. Have a rich, fattiness. A little sweetness. Mild nuttiness.
FW Macadamia: Contains corn syrup. So will probably start to taste burnt and ruin cotton pretty quickly. Slightly sweet, very nut forward. Probably the strongest in flavour of those tested this week. A little earthy. Apparently fades significantly after about a month, even the un-mixed concentrate. Tested at 2% 15.08
NF (Nature's Flavors) Organic Macadamia: A bit weak in potency. Top heavy, moist, sweet. A bit of an earthy note. Decent amount of mouthfeel. Tested at 1%, 3% and 5% 16.56
VT Macadamia Nut: Really tasty. Chocolate back note. In a similar way to VT Devon Cream, VT like to add chocolate to profiles that shouldn't have any. The chocolate note is more subtle than that in Devon Cream. Like a macadamia nut with a thin layer of chocolate on it. Overall it's not nearly as mellow as some other of this week's flavours. Has some depth. Mild, buttery nut flavour sits in front of the chocolate note throughout. Does the fatty note of a macadamia really well. Not a lot of flavour at 1.5%. Chocolate note slightly sour at 4%. At 2% chocolate note was pretty prevalent. Tried using at 3% in a mix, worked well Tested at 1.5%, 2%, 4%. Use around 3% in a mix. 19.00
OOO White Chocolate Macadamia: Pretty good. The chocolate note is OK. Needs some help to boost it up. Not as full and fleshed out as the FLV and FW white chocolate combo. But it is present. It's creamy. The macadamia is comparable to WF Macadamia Nuts. The nut is more forward over the chocolate, kind of like VT Macadamia Nut in that way, but with white chocolate. Semi sweet. Not dry. Tested at 2% and 5%. Not a lot of flavour at 2%. Too light. 23.23
WF Macadamia Nuts SC: Generically nutty flavour. Mild, buttery nut. Less nut forward than some of the others. Fairly dry, but smooth. Could be useful if using in something like a tobacco or bakery that you didn't want to get too soggy or creamy. Can work well as the nut in something like a white chocolate macadamia nut cookie. Tested at 1.5%, 2% 25.36
Some chocolates turn to ash after a long steep.
Recipes:
Meemaw's Cookies by SlashaLO (ATF) Really, really good. (Uses WF Macadamia at 1.5%) 29.25
Macalame'ia Cookies by freshepies (ELR) Similar to Meemaw's Cookies. An all WF recipe. Uses only Almond Cookie, Macadamia Nuts and White Fudge. All at 1.5%. 32.28
Macadamanana Tart by EyeM2sRus (ATF) Chocolate, Macadamia tart with banana. 34.07
Pistachio Cream Puff - JW by Mixinvixens (ATF) 36.55
Wait, so for the giveaway I just need to comment? Because I don’t have any macadamia recipes...
That's always been the way it works since this giveaway business started months ago.
Obviously we prefer people contribute in some kind of meaningful way - doesn't have to be a recipe or flavor review, it could even just be a question that's on topic or changing the topic to requesting for a future flavor of the week. But it doesn't have to be. You're in it now just for this comment you've just made.
But you could have asked about what macadamia flavors people like, if anyone could recommend recipe that uses a macadamia flavor, if anyone has any ideas about recreating a macadamia food thing in vape form, etc etc. You could even have told a joke or complained about your mother-in-law or tried to convert us to your weird religious cult or tried to recruit us for a threesome. Now, don't you wish you'd taken the opportunity to do one of those things?
I wanted to be sure I understood the rules and eligibility.
I’m new to DIY and brand new to the community and didn’t want to commit a faux pas, but at least now I have that worry out of the way ;o)
I do hope to contribute to the community or at least participate in a useful way, and I am still getting all my equipment corralled and organized. And I missed a few key materials in my first orders, like lots and lots of bottles. So I feel like I’m still not in a good position to do much.
Although I can tell you that I seem to have wasted a good bit of time compiling all the specific gravity information that I found posted here so I could make a super-accurate mixing calculator that used the individual SGs by manufacturer and flavor...only to come across that post that the recipes that are posted are undoubtedly based on a fixed SG value for flavors.
So I guess do a little more reading than I did before doing something ambitious and useless...
Hey man, once you get around us folks here at The Holy Order of Proteaceae compound, you’ll see we’re not so weird. Now, hurry and drink this special comet juice before you miss your opportunity to ascend unto your final and perfected Macadamalien form.
FA Hazelnut works nicely with FA Vanilla Tahity, FA Cocoa and FA Vienna Cream to create a Nutella type of flavour, but it‘s probably not the best approach considering what is available on the market today
Edit: Sorry, guess I got the wrong week :p no macademia in my inventory
This flavor pack is similar to last week's, which I wanted to give a spin, so I'll try again in the spirit of branching out a bit haha.
How about a chocolates week? I think it's been done before, but I've been experimenting a lot lately with it, would probably cool to see a more up to date thread on them!
Turns out there are a ton of different types of chocolate flavors, can you think of a more specific subset that would fall under the broader category of "chocolates" that is especially interesting to you?
