Hot Seat Sunday - with OdieDoodah
submitted over 5 years ago by OdieDoodahThe Real MVP

The thread that's Still Going™! This is an AMA thread with a twist – the 'victim' gets to name who is next up in the rotation.

There are some rules:

  • Try picking someone who hasn't gone yet

  • It has to be someone who actively posts here

  • No dead people (i.e. notcharlesmanson isn't eligible)

  • Preferably a name that people recognize, 'regular poster' means someone who is . . .
    >a) alive
    b) has posted in the last three months

  • Complete the FAQ before posting

If you do the hot seat, you can add up to three names to the list of people who are potential victims.

Possible: ^(/u/AlfredPudding, /u/enyawreklaw, /u/shyndo, /u/NaCHeF, /u/ConcreteRiver, /u/kindground, /u/xGRANITEx,) /u/Apexified

###FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

  • How'd you get your handle?

>When I was choosing a username for "Some Site" a long long time ago, I wanted to pick something a bit silly and lighthearted. The image that came to mind was one of my favorites - a fine Southern Gentleman like myself (grin). "Doodah" seemed like a good choice - it fits my dry cornball sense of humor - but it was taken. So I took inspiration from Garfield's pal and added "Odie" . . . and a legend was born! Now my goal in life is to have a world-wide Holiday in my honor - we'll call it Odie Doodah Day! (snicker)

  • How long have you been mixing for?

>I started mixing in the spring of 2018 - a few months after I started vaping . . . so about 2 years.

  • How would you describe your mixing style?

>I'm a Hacker. I mix juice for myself - and no one else. I don't have people around me to give second opinions of new mixes or help consume excess juice. I don't like to be wasteful, so I vape all of my trials. That makes recipe development move at a snails pace - a 10ml test lasts more than a day (for me). To speed things up a bit, I embrace the concept of Stones - flavor combinations that work well together. I browse recipes and harvest "parts" of them. Then I cobble those "parts" together with other tidbits from my flavor stash to make my own personalized Frankenstein.

  • Current flavor or profile obsession?

>I can't really call it an obsession - but I've playing with Apples quite a bit recently. That's directly due to the generosity of Flavorah . . . I was the winner of the Apple Pack in the FOTW thread a few weeks ago. I'd like to send a big THANK YOU to Flavorah - not only the tasty flavors they sent me, but for offering up a fine prize every week.

  • Most/Least disappointing flavors that was/not as expected?

>MOST DISAPPOINTING: CAP Sweet Tangerine
I can't blame the the flavor on this one - I gotta blame myself. When I first started mixing I wanted to find the perfect Tangerine juice. I was sure that all I needed was some Sweet Tangerine. It was part of my first ever order, And the first bottle I ever mixed was a SFT of Sweet Tangerine. It's a good flavor - just not the "Golden Nectar" that I had foolishly convinced myself that it was. I set myself up for a big letdown.
LEAST DISAPPOINTING: VT Yoghurt Drink
I should call this my "Biggest Surprise". I was chatting with Shyndo on Discord and he mentioned that he enjoyed Yoghurt Drink and it tasted like the lemon milkshake thing they have at CFA. I asked which lemon he added and he replied "none - the lemon is in the Yoghurt Drink". I was intrigued and ordered some. DAMN that stuff is good. Very creamy and smooth - plenty of body - with a nice lemon twang. If you like a creamy citrus smoothie profile you HAVE to get this flavor. It's 1/2 of of many good "2 Flavor Bangers". - like Lime Drink by MaxSavage.

  • Mixing Milestone?

>My mixing journey took a sharp turn one fateful day when I made the suggestion that someone should add some sort of summary to the FOTW threads. ID10-T asked who would/could do that. Then it happened - I said "I can". That's right - I VOLUNTEERED (why? haha). Many of you already know that idea has grown and turned into Flavor Facts. For those of you that don't know - I've spent a lot of time compiling links to info about flavors and organizing them - to make them easier to find. That process has been one helluva learning experience. I've cataloged nearly 3,500 flavors and over 17,00 links to info about them. It's forced me to explore nooks and crannies that I never knew existed. I don't claim to be a Flavor Expert - but my brain has absorbed tons of info.
If you wanna take a trip down Memory Lane (grin) click this -> FOTW - Cranberry. My original comment is gone - replaced by a table that I came up with later. But you can see Version 0.001 of Flavor Facts - ID10-T edited it into the main post. My lord . . . how things have changed!

  • Recipes you admire/love?

>If I had to pick a single recipe it would have to be Longing by ID10-T. Creamy, silky, sweet, floral, and extremely well balanced. All the flavors play so well together. There's litle doubt why it was crowed Recipe of the Year. I also think it's the world's best tasting "Blank Canvas". You can add all sorts of flavors (one at a time please - grin) and take it new places. As I type this, I'm enjoying Ardent by Loonicorn (Longing + Ginger). I must humbly salute ID10-T. So many of his recipes fit perfectly with my mixing style. It's like he manufactures "Leggos of the Mixing World" - just ~~snap~~ strap them together and enjoy!

> * Strap-On is the King Mac Daddy Grand Poobah of all adaptable recipes. Just take a look at everything it has spawned.

  • 1-2-3 Cinapple Side Dish is a wonderful apple combo. Is there already an establsihed Apple Trinity? If not, I nominate this recipe.
  • 1-2-3 Cranberry Sprite should be called "InsertFlavorName Sprite". The Cranberry can be replaced with soooo many different flavors - just use your favorite.

>I've got to give an Honorable Mention to EdibleMalfunction's Backwoods Lemonade. It was the first recipe I mixed that made me say "I need to mix more of this" when I finished the bottle. I've played around using the lemonade base with many different berries - and all of them are good.

  • White whale?

>There's a whale I'm fascinated with - but haven't spent much time chasing (yet - hahaha). As you've probably noticed - I like using combos of flavors as building blocks to create a recipe. There are already several really good stones/trinities/bases out there. But most of them are meant to be used as the primary flavor. I'd like to work from the other end and develop flavor combos that act as "Sprinkles" (or maybe "Garnishes") - the flavors you use in small quantities as a finishing touch. The best analogy I can think of is Mrs Dash - a brand of seasoning blends with several different variations. Maybe I could/should call it Mr Dash (smirk). I envision grabbing a Stand Alone flavor or an easy Banger Combo and add a touch of Mr Dash, shake, and I'm done. For example you could mix equal parts WS-23 / Polar Blast / Lemon / Mint. Call it "Mr Dash - Fresh". Add 1-2% for a touch of cool freshness. I'd like to see a several variations - Fresh, Spritz, Sweet Heat, Frostbite, Islander, etc. In addition to helping the LazyMan they could be used to add a little "newness" to good recipes that are growing stale.

  • Advice for new mixers?

>Remember that DIY is short for Do It YOURSELF! Don't expect anyone to hold your hand as you learn. Take some time to research on your own. There's tons of information available - trust me I know - hahaha. While you're looking for the answer to Question-A, you could stumble into the answers to Question-B and Question-C that you had not thought to ask yet. Don't be so fast to post every little question you have - don't deny yourself an opportunity to learn.

Any questions?

>Yeah - where am I supposed to say that I choose Apexified to go next? (smirk)

Somebody, I say somebody should thank Odie for all his efforts, in contributing to the mixing community with these Flavor Facts.

.. and also a big thank you personally, from me to you - The small chats we had on the Discord, helped me finally quit the stinkies for good. We know you have other things going on, but we miss you. Sincerely, Dico

Would you try Wunder Waffle.

Also thanks for all the hard work you do. I don't think very many people realize the behind the scenes work you do for this community. You are a cornerstone.

Why would I wanna try Blunder Waffle? You already fell on that Grenade. (grin)
And thank you for the kind words. What I've contributed can't compare to how much I've gained - so I'm the one that should be saying Thanks.

Thank you for everything you do/have done/will do to organize and make available all the information that the members of this community have scattered like little nuggets of coal you’ve compressed into a multifaceted diamond.

My question: Why do you type (grin)? And, what does it mean to you?

by OdieDoodahover 5 years agoThe Real MVP

I joke around a lot - and sometimes people can take my "jokes" the wrong way. I insert the (grin) to hopefully alert folks to not take anything I say seriously - I'm just joking. It's also a habit from pre-internet days of dialup BBS chat rooms.

Odie! About time you did an AMA! Thank you for all of the behind the scenes work you do.

Just one simple question... showdown?!

3 points

by OdieDoodahover 5 years agoThe Real MVP

The Showdown ain't dead - just on the back burner for now. I don't wanna make any promises - but I'd like to see The Mixer Showdown make a comeback before the end of the year.

Of all the recipes you've developed:

Which is your favorite?

Which was the weirdest, but good/awesome?

What's a mixing mistake you made that turned into a happy little accident?

3 points

by OdieDoodahover 5 years agoThe Real MVP

All the recipes I've developed? hehehe I can't honestly say that I have any posted recipes. I mostly try out different flavor combinations and build my knowledge of how flavors interact. My goal isn't to create recipes - my goal is to understand them.

I feel lucky - I haven't really made any (bad) mistakes. I've had things turn out "not good" - but nothing horrible so far. I think I owe that to my obsession to research before I start to mix.

So what orange flavor did it end up being? I’m vaping a Sweet Tangerine Cream right now and although it is good...I’m on the hunt for that orange goodness.

by OdieDoodahover 5 years agoThe Real MVP

I tend to use a combo of VT Tangy Orange Drink (aka Orange Tang) and INW Shisha Orange with a tiny touch of CAP Golden Pineapple.

Nice. I have the Shisha Orange and Golden Pineapple on my next order list. I’ll have to look at VT Tangy as well. Thanks for the heads up and all that you do here.

Are your computering skills self-taught or did you pick them up at work?

A little of both. I used them at work quite a bit and I've got a nerd streak in me too. I've always ben the one to dive into the helpfile and ready everything. You can learn a lot that way.

Thanks man for your work. It's refreshing to see your tireless efforts in an awesome project called flavor facts. I believe you and I got into mixing around the same time. How many flavors have you amassed in your inventory?

1 points

by OdieDoodahover 5 years agoThe Real MVP

I'm a neophyte - I have 132 flavors.

2 points

by lionhrt9over 5 years agoMissing One Flavor

I went the other way with 400. Im astonished you have 132. A man that knows what he likes. Ive been cursed with flavor ADD like so many others. Lol.

by OdieDoodahover 5 years agoThe Real MVP

Unless you're mixing for a small herd and need the variety of flavors - how many flavors do you really need? There's tons of flavor categories that taste "good" to me - and a small handful that taste "great". I've made the dive into citrus, nuts, spices, berries, creams, cherry, and apple. But I have 0 tropical flavors. Not saying that tropical flavors are bad - I just don't like them as much as I like some other things. And how much can one person vape in a day?

Instead of concentrating on the flavors you like - I suggest you try concentrating on the flavors you like best.

How does it feel to get a brief break from all the hard work and dedication for this sub you contribute to answer redundant questions? MDMA like? Or merely MDA?

I don't think I'm capable of taking a break - it's not in my DNA.

CNN awaiting test results for Odie. Poll results so far 64% MDMA 33.% MDA/Meth other. Either way, this hot seat cooled down by MSM's ability to make ahit up!
