France limits sales of nicotine products after fewer smokers catch coronavirus
submitted over 5 years ago by stablogger

According to a french study, smokers are less likely to catch coronavirus, already resulting in limitations of sales of NRT products and the ban of online sales.

How does this affect DIY and our nic? I'm not sure, but I could imagine with a huge run on these products worldwide (remember hydrochloroquine, the malaria/lupus medication Trump promoted as a possible COVID-19 medication, resulting in a temporary worldwide shortage) liquid nicotine may become more expensive, too.

So, in case you didn't stock up with PMTA and possible taxation around the corner, this could be a good time to stock up at still resonable prices.

God damn. The absurdities are endless

In America a few weeks back the news was saying that vapers were like 4x more likely to catch the Rona.

The lies out of the mouths of these people are as endless as people's fear

I wish I had cash to throw towards it. I stocked up with some gear and flavors with a portion of my stimulus money and the rest went to bills. Hopefully we'll be getting another round in may i guess......

Yeah, no kidding. I would love to buy some stock right now. I've been looking into covid vs vaping/smoking for a few months now, the research sounds plausible. If it is true, there will be a shit ton of people buying up any form of nicotine available. During the Black Death, people were dying with tobacco pipes hanging from their mouths because they believed smoking prevented them from getting sick. We already have people injecting bleach so I don't see why not lol

Poison control calls related to household cleansers are up, but there is no correlation to any attempts to cure Coronavirus. It's more related to irresponsible actions and increased use of cleansers resulting in accidental ingestion, inhalation of fumes and eye contact.

Which tobacco company is sponsoring this research

Not really a promo for tobacco, research is nicotine based rather than smoking cigs based

Here's a link to the hypothesis of nicotine's protective effect that the French researchers are studying: https://www.qeios.com/read/FXGQSB.2

Exactly, the proper research studies NICOTINE not cigarettes/vape specifically.

Correct, but the research was prompted by statistics showing (surprisingly) that there's a lower percentage of current smokers among hospitalized COVID patients than among the general population of France.

I think it's always a good time to stock up on nicotine and a year's supply isn't hard to keep so that's what I keep. But if I were gambling, I'd bet that this study comes to very little. On the other hand, panic buying is not the same as scientific relevance.

As far as I know, France is limiting the sales of nicotine patches, gum, mouth sprays and such. It’s not that you can’t buy them, but they are limiting you to buying for like a month at a time to stop hoarding and price surges and probably deaths due to nicotine poisoning.

It definitely isn’t a cure and smokers can also get COVID-19, just as more men contract it than women do.

Exactly this. It's jut a one month supply limitation so as to prevent panic buying. I sincerely hope people realize that they don't need to take up smoking just because nicotine is being researched...

Ok so one of the things I would like to ask just cause I feel like it should be asked. Has the same trend been noticed among those using things such as the patch and gum because if not this maybe a sign that people find it alot easier to social distance if you smell like an ash tray or the stigma that there is something harmful in the vapor?
