Substitute for TFA VBIC?
submitted over 5 years ago by mkweiseMissing One Flavor

I am one of the handicapped, who can't taste much besides pepper in TFA VBIC. Is there a consensus as to what flavor combo could take its place in recipes, such as u/id10t's Longing?

LB Vanilla Ice Cream is a good substitute for TFA pepper tasters. I believe there’s a thread about here on the subreddit. You can use the search option in the sidebar.

Just like TFA's, LB VIC is also pepper for me.

Looking through these threads it seems like I have to try CAP's some time soon.

Some people also have issues with Cap. Ive heard that FW is good for people that are pepper tasters. I can't say for sure cuz I don't have that issue. But FW does make a good VBIC.

Im not a pepper taster. But i have friends Who are and some of them say the peppery taste gets significantly lower if you add 0,7% (cap) butter cream to the mix . Give it a try

LB is the best IMO. It’s upgraded many of my recipes that I used TPA in before.

I second this. LB is suuuuuper tasty, rich, and I myself get the pepper from TFA.

LB Vanilla Ice Cream at a slightly higher concentration than whatever TFA VBIC it calls for. So like 6% LB for 5% TFA VBIC. Longing I would just bump it from 1.5 to 2%. If you have it and wanted to really get fancy I'd also add a little FLV Vanilla Bean, but it would be fine without it.

Thanks, LB VIC added to shopping list.

I mixed up your Longing with .5% TFA Bavarian Cream and 1% Vanilla Swirl in place of the VBIC and it's not bad, but probably not very close to the original.

First time I made Longing I was missing it.

Here's what I went with instead:

French Vanilla Ice Cream (Hangsen) @ 0.26

Vanilla Ice Cream (LB) @ 1.72

Vanilla Swirl (TPA) @ 0.52

Options are LB VBIC or CAP VBIC

I enjoy WF vanilla bean gelato, it works as a good substitute. They taste different on their own, although they leave the same notes in a blended recipe. Pair this with some vanilla swirl TPA or sweet cream CAP and you have a good start to a base.

Are there any vanillas you can taste ?

The pepper taste issue isn't with vanilla, but with certain TFA creamy flavors including: VBIC, CGCC, Vanilla Custard, White Chocolate.

Other TFA vanillas like Vanilla Swirl, French Vanilla Creme, Vanilla Bourbon Madagascar, etc. are not affected.

Serious question: when people say they are a pepper taster, is it that anise flavor you get from it??

I've been trying LB and FW as good substitutes.

No anise. More like McCormick ground black pepper that's sat around for a while and gone stale.

Ok gotcha. I don't taste that but I get strong anise flavor from about 2.5-3% up.

I always assumed it was vanilla bean that made the pepper taste but if others have noticed it in different non vanilla flavors I have no clue what it is. But as mkweise said it’s like ground black pepper.

Yea I've tasted it in VBIC but not in any of the other vanilla flavors I have so I thought it was the bean aspect of it as well...I have the FW version and it seems to be better... definitely did not get a pepper taste

I have taste tested over 15 vanilla ice cream concentrates. The three best in my opinion. In no particular order as all 3 have different aspects to it that make it top contenders. Vape Train - Vanilla Ice Cream Liquid Barn - Vanilla Ice Cream Hangsen - French Vanilla Ice Cream

I use CAP at a 1:1 ratio for anything that calls for TFA VBIC. Loving it so far
