DIY E-Juice
submitted over 5 years ago by TheShnoz0824

Any DIY vape juice creators with experience that could help answer my question would be much appreciated. Iv been vaping for years and have heard of/had experience with other people making their own vape juice in the past. So due to the coronavirus I have decided to start making my own for the first time. Due to closure of vape stores and general expense that comes with buying from stores. I used liquid barn products, the base I used was their 80/20 mix at 3mg that came in a 500ML bottle. And their flavorings, this flavoring in particular was peach. Which had a recommended mix ratio of 10%. I didnt have a scale so just used to ML to mix the juice so in a 60mil bottle of juice I added 6mils of peach flavoring and the remaining 54mls I added the base. I figured it probably didnt need to steep but I gave it a day just to be sure as i still had some juice i bought left anyway. I just opened and tried it on fresh wick in my dripper and to be honest it tastes like ass, and is a little harsher than I was expecting for 3mg. The peach flavor is almost nonexistent and the juice tastes almost like vaping straight VG. Not sure exactally what I should do to correct this issue, or what I did wrong. If anyone has any insight or advice to give me that would be great. Thanks again.

Basically, what you want do is read and research first. This is a good place to start. I would suggest never buying a premix 3mg solution for starters. Buy 100mg/ml in pg. Second, Rarely are single flavors great for a full liquid. I would suggest going to All The Flavors dot com and finding a recipe to mix that you might like. Try searching 3-2-1 recipies where the percentages for the recipe are 3% of one flavor, 2% of another, and 1% of another. Purchase 10ml of each of those flavorings from the recipe and try your hand at it. It's hard to go in blind to something and get great results.

could be a chemical sensitivity to something in that particular flavour, peach is known to be harsh to some people, and some people are blind to certain flavours as well, I can't taste any strawberry in a vape and I've tried 4 different strawberrys

and some peach flavorings have linalool which is can cause contact dermitis and inflammation in people that are sensitive to it

a small amount of sweetener can help you taste fruit flavours as well

it's the nature of DIY you win some you lose some you might have to throw out that peach flavoring if it does not improve but don't give up because DIY is cheap and alot of fun when you find the flavours that work for you.

Do alot of research before you buy and get tried and true flavours, liquid barn isn't very popular for the most part.

I'd definitely let it steep a few days to be sure. In my experience if it tastes nasty on the shake, it won't improve much with a steep. Fruits don't need much steeping. I vape 90% of my mixes within a day unless it's a cream, custard, or tobacco mix. Then it improves in the next few weeks.

Recommended percentages are just that. You'll need to figure out a percentage that works for your palate. I suggest mixing smaller 10ml batches with new recipes so you can experiment. Not all flavors are created equally or that great on their own. Most need a supporting flavor. Find some highly rated recipes on alltheflavors and start there. There are plenty of 321 recipes.

Liquid barn flavors are almost all bad from what I hear. I like pink lemonade ok, but even that has a weird off flavor. I'd suggest looking at this subreddit for ideas on what flavors to get and then get them from a site like bull city, I've had really good experiences with them.

Doing research on flavors before buying them will help you out greatly. LB Peach is not a great flavor.

If you end up looking for another peach, try:

JF Honey Peach 1-2%

FA White Peach 0.5-1%

INW Peach <0.5%

You can also vape some of the premixed 3mg base to ensure that this is not the issue.

If you want to pair peach with any other profile, look through FOTW posts in this sub and check out Noted episodes on youtube. This will save yourself a bunch of money and frustration.

Having made liters of DIY e-juice I suggest you leave it for a couple of days and check again. It is normal for it to taste like ass. Some flavors could require up to a month for the full flavor to come out. But most cases require maybe a week or two. So in my opinion you should just leave it aside and try it after some time passes.

Also you should by a scale to mix DIY e-juice. It is much easier than calculating with ml using your brain. When I started using one it just made my life so much easier

I heavily disagree with the 'normal to taste like ass' part. I have not experienced this in the liters of juice I've mixed, of all different types of recipes. Fruits, desserts, creams, tobaccos, NETs etc. Like /u/apocalypticdiynewb said, if it tastes nasty on the shake it probably won't magically taste better from steeping. Obviously there are exceptions but fruit flavors aren't that heavy/complex like creams/deserts and tend to be more volatile. Steeping can take an edge off of a harsher flavor but can also end up muting out flavors that are better right after a shake.

I do however wholeheartedly agree with the scale part, its 100x easier and a tiny bit more accurate as temperature doesnt have a factor in weight but does have a factor in volume.

I got my first order of liquid and flavorings from LB as well. I bought 1,000 mL of Base same ratio also. I got a few of their premixed flavors and it was crap. I used all of the LB flavors mixing up smaller batches out of the first 500 mL bottle. And then after about 5 months I finally broke into my last big bottle of LB Base with a a basic variation of Water Malone that i made myself. With all of it combined I've finally come to a definitive answer... LB Base sucks donkey balls.... As you your flavorings you probably could have gone 10% peach with maybe .5%-1% sweetener and you probably would have had a better result, but in the end you'd still be dealing with the harshness of the LB Base... My first bottle was bad no matter what I did with the different flavors or changing the percentages. The second bottle isn't as bad as the first one but i only keep that one in case of emergency. Like, I'm definitely not touching it unless it's my absolute only recourse. I got a diy kit from River Supply Co and I'm completely satisfied with that. When they start shipping again jump on doing an order with them.

by juthincover 5 years agoI improved Grack and all I got was this lousy flair

1 LB flavors generally suck. Cherry Blossom Tea is ok, tho. 2. Peaxh tastes like ass, no surprise there, it tastes like ass IRL. 3. You actually weren't mixing 3mg/ml, it was 2.7mg/ml. You need to use higher concentration nic than you plan to vape, because there's no nic in the flavors and no nicotine fairy to magically increase the nicotine level. 4. 28% PG would be painful for me... Maybe you're also more sensitive to PG? (Flavors are PG. So you end up with a lower VG content than your base.)

UPDATE: So while I was reading over these comments I left the old peach bottle siting there and by suggestion from the discord i also made a separate bottle with like half the flavoring the original had. I also tried a tastemaker collection flavor I mixed up with the original batch of flavors here are the results

Original peach: after letting it sit for another day or 2 the flavor increased slightly but it's still not the best juice iv ever had by any means nor is it what I was aiming for but its vapeable, the harshness drastically dropped to what u would expect of a 3mg juice. So all in all it's a "meh" but its vapeable

New peach batch:the new batch was exactally what the old one was, except it didnt need to steep to be that good. After letting it steep for a day or 2 its way better than the original, so obviously liquid barn has their heads up their ass on the own flavoring ratios so if anyone who happens upon this thread with similar question just know that u shouldnt trust vapor barns labeling on their ratios

Tastemakers flavor (quik): i mixed this along with all the original flavors i made and mixed it how the creator suggested it mixed (about 15%) and steeped it the suggested (2-3 days) it was the best of all of the flavors of tried and it wasnt to harsh. Just the right amount of throat hit and flavor. Since iv been using it, it has actually gotten better (probably due to breathing the juice from simply having it open and closed while using it I imagine)

Taking this into account and comments from all of you friendly Chad's iv come to the conclusion liquid barns flavors are probably hit and miss on taste and the mix ratios are all sorts of fucked up, the tastemaker collection is probably fine due to not actually being made by vapor barn just distributed by them. Give liquid barn a little leeway considering I'm new at this and far from perfect and I very likley screwed something up along the way but all-in-all I'd say liquid barns labels arent trustworthy and their flavors are a gamble.

Am into DIY of eliquid but I haven’t tried liquid barn premix. As per my experience when you make your mix it is recommended to let it steep for few days to few weeks. Normally with fruit flavor we let it steep for few days maybe a week. As per my suggestion shake it well and let it steep for a week. Make sure you keep it in a dark place and shake it well everyday. After a week check it and if it taste same then let it steep for more days. I have checked the feedback of Peach flavor in liquid barn mostly it’s positive feed back. Your calculation is not wrong though they recommend us to use weighing scale but if you don’t have it then measuring it will also work with little bit errors .
