FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
How'd you get your handle?
Kind of a fun story! When we were kids, my brother and friends and I were in a phase where we would end our words with a "B" just to be silly. Like "Hi-b. Howb you doinb?" Sounds ridiculous, I know. On one day, my friend was eating spaghetti with us, and as he passed me the cheese he said, "Cheeb Steeb?" and I said "Pleeb." He thought it was the funniest thing that had ever happened and would constantly ask me cheeb steeb? And eventually I became known as Cheeb Steeb
Fast forward a few years, I was about 14 or 15 at the time (so almost 20 years ago!), my older sister took me to the greatest sandwich shop ever, Cheba Hut! We had a great time, tasty-ass sandwiches, and probably my first time partaking in the good stuff with her. Anyway, shortly thereafter I believe I needed to make a username for AIM (AOL Instant Messanger for those unfamiliar haha), and it just came to me: CheebaSteeba would be the perfect name! So I've been using that handle for about 20 years now lol. It works out because it's never taken!
How long have you been mixing for?
Goodness, a long time now! I want to say since 2014? My first ever liquid was from Tasty Vapor (www.tastyvapor.us), probably around 2012. They make fantastic liquid and they have "Doublers" Which is 0mg liquid that you could add to higher nic blends to get more bang for your buck (so if you buy 36mg liquid you could also buy a bunch of 0mg at roughly half the price to bring it down to your desired concentration). While this was a good step toward my mixing journey and familiarized me with the process, I wouldn't call that "mixing."
A couple years later, I was playing Asheron's Call, and had a buddy I would game with called Cloud Chaser or something. We eventually got on the topic of vaping, and he had mentioned that he had started mixing, and I thought "if this guy can do it, surely I can too!" I found Nude Nicotine and started mixing up their one shots, then worked my way to getting a bunch of LorAnn's flavors. Shortly thereafter I stumbled on u/enyawreklaw on YouTube, and then got introduced to this reddit/community! So, big thanks to Mr. Wayne Walker for all the resources he gave me for my mixing journey.
Current flavor or profile obsession?
Currently I've been really enjoying Cola vapes. I love how well rounded they are: Spicy, sweet, intriguing, and it allows me to get my coolant fix. If it's not that then definitely strawberries & cream.
Most/Least disappointing flavors that was/not as expected?
Oh gosh, this is a tough one. I would say the most disappointing flavor I've tried was FLV Rhubarb. I had such high hopes for it and if they nailed it, I think it could be very fun to play around with. Least disappointing would be even harder, maybe FLV Guanabana? Wasn't sure what to expect with this flavor but by golly is it versatile, easy to use, and super tasty
Mixing Milestone?
Definitely my first milestone would be my first flavor review on this here subreddit on INW Cherimoya. It really got me looking at mixing from a more intricate perspective, getting a bit more involved, and also gave my hobby a purpose.
Next would be starting up Noted with my lovely co-hosts u/ID10-T and u/mlNikon! Such a cool idea, and so much fun! Really happy to be a part of that team.
And lastly I have to say the vape convention in Las Vegas. While chatting with folks on the internet is great and all, actually getting to meet, mingle, and mix with some of my favorite people gave me something tangible in a world that is mostly virtual. I had a really great time and I hope we get to do something like that again!
Recipes you admire/love?
I would say I truly admire the works of u/RuntDastardly, really interesting and unique profiles while being super freaking tasty! Of all of them, Glaistig would have to be the recipe I'd pick
White whale?
Another tough one! I'd say it'd be a perfect Banoffee Pie for an ADV. There is probably one out there, I just haven't found it yet!
How would you describe your mixing style?
I mostly just start with flavors that I REALLY enjoy, and see if I can find a way to connect them together. Once I have a decent start, I will usually try to add something fun in there, and then it's a lot of testing and tweaking.
Advice for new mixers?
Stay simple! Not only is it easier to determine what your flavors are doing in a simple mix, but you're more likely to get other people to try it for feedback on a simple recipe.
Play! This is your hobby, it should be fun. Play around with your flavors, who knows what interesting combinations you'll discover!
Failure is ok! You're going to have a lot of failures before success, and even your successes don't need to be perfect. I remember Jeannie K saying "once you've reached yum, stop." It's easy to be overly critical of yourself and your mixes, so just try to remember that you can learn from each and every mix.
Man, it's been a while since I've been on the reddits, and my how it's changed! Feels weird to have an AMA for little ol' me, but I'm definitely looking forward to all the questions! Much love for all y'all =)
Well I, for one, greatly appreciate the Monday night Noted: shows. I've learned a lot just from this. It's great to read something like this and get to know you a little better. Mix on!
HeyB, How manyB flavors you actually gotB?
lolb I've gotb like Seven Hundreb
In case anyone is wondering, one of the characters in Fat Albert and the gang named Mushmouth spoke like that.
>one of the characters in Fat Albert and the gang named Mushmouth spoke like that
For the unititiated -> Mushmouth Speaks
You ever get so baked that you forget which profile you're working on? I did that yesterday, it was annoying.
Lol yep, especially when I'm testing for Noted =P
I'm also really bad at labeling my stuff, assuming "I'll remember." That causes a lot of problems!
Is it true that you totally unplug from the internet for days at a time?
Haha, more so before than currently (What else is there to do during a quarantine?), and mostly social media. I still play video games lol.
After the election in 2016 there was just so much toxicity on the internet that it was just depressing me, and driving for a living keeps me pretty distracted from electronics. I also went through a pretty rough patch during that time with my previous relationship which led me to want to disconnect and disappear, but I'm getting better! I think
Do you still stay logged into Hearthstone for weeks at a time?
I'm glad you were avoiding social media and not just ignoring me and others who for some reason decided I was the one to complain to about you ignoring them.
Follow up question, do you have a new girlfriend?
lol yeah I'm not trying to ignore y'all I just avoid things a bit, but I need to get better about it.
I do! She is incredible man, I can't believe I met someone that I connect with so well. I thought for sure I'd stay single for the rest of my life after my last relationship. We were actually fighting a bit today because I'm bad at using my phone and connecting to people electronically lol. We're better now though
Do you remember what you ate for breakfast with Folkart and I in Vegas?
I do! I had like a cereal crusted french toast thing haha, it was pretty good but the damn thing was like $17. What did you have, do you remember?
I will never forget. Cinnamon Roll French Toast. Where they took a giant (plate-sized, two inch thick) cinnamon roll, dunked it in eggs and milk, and pan fried it in butter, then drenched it in cream cheese frosting. I had severe munchies and ate the whole thing and don't know how I'm even still alive much less with a functioning pancreas after that.
/u/RuntDastardly is also one of my favorite mixers!
Any other underrated gems you've discovered over the years?
Did you know that "Delightfully Mediocre" became a user flair here almost a year ago? I'm gonna change yours to that ;)
Hahaha awesome! I didn't know that. A very fitting title for me indeed =)
Umm, let's see, as far as recipes go? Don't do a whole lot of recipes these days (SFT on noted keeps me pretty busy!), but I'd say Serenity by u/Kopel. Big fan of calm vapes after testing 80 cherries!
Is there a /u/Kopel? I should've made that awhile ago lol. Thanks for the shout out!
Do you do any collab mixing? If so who are your favorite mixers to work with? How do you balance clashing ideas? Some clown on discord tried to combine OOO Cream(Milky Undertone) with FLV Lemonade and it was a DISASTER!
So I've done a little bit of collab mixing, u/mlNikon and I have a recipe we worked on together (Pumpkin Cider). I've also done a bit with the boys at Developed which was a lot of fun! u/RuntDastardly and I have also shot some ideas back and forth a bit a while back, but IDK if that counts as collab.
I'd love to do more! You can come up with some really great mixes when you put multiple brains together. As far as clashing ideas go, I think it's good to find some sort of middle ground, but I will often run with the other person's ideas unless I really don't like it!
lol that does sound like a disaster
How often do you work on recipes vs SFT? With Noted every week how do you even find the time to mix?
The last time I asked this in a Hot Seat Sunday thread, the answer was "hate, hate, hate". I'll try my luck again:
What do you think of locorice (and I mean black licorice, not that fake red shit), as a candy and as an ejuice flavour?
Well you're in luck. I love, love, love! Black licorice both as a candy and an e-liquid. You don't see a lot of people mixing with them unfortunately because not a lot of people like it. I've got a recipe for a black licorice that was pretty good but it's old, needs updating. I'm going to guess you like the stuff too? Any good recipes you know of?
Oh yeah, I like that black gold. I'm working on a licorice thing, and I know at least one other mixer who's doing the same. I'm still searching for the right base though, and even the licorices are not certain (I have only two: CAP and FA).
So nothing to share just yet, but if I ever get something worth making public, I'll post it on this subreddit.
Your recipe does not seem to be public, am I right?
It's on ELR, super simple black licorice recipe, from back in 2016 lol. I really like the maltiness(?) from FA black touch to bring it more towards like an authentic Australian black licorice and less like black jelly bean. I can't recall what the cap one tastes like
Which Cheeba recipe should I try next?
One of my all-time favorites is Aura: Forest but I know absinthe/black licorice isn't for everyone, so I would suggest Wolf Cola
You know few things piss me off more than surprise licorice or anise off notes where they don't belong, but I'm not sure I'd mind the absinthe there. Also, I'm missing one flavor for each. DIYVS doesn't appear to have Delosi Ice (unless that's the same thing as Delosi Ice - Mint) but Chef's does have DV Absinthe, I'll have to add that to my next Chef's Order. It'll be nice to have another use for this lifetime supply (15ml) of Alpine Strawberry.
lol for sure. You can prob use ws-23 in Delosi Ice's place at about half the rate but it will be a little bit different. In my more recent iterations of cola I've been preferring ws-23 over DF Ice-Original, but they've also had different flavors going on so, ya know, things be different
I just finished a bottle of Aura: Forest this morning. Mixed up another batch immediately. I love it!
Who cooks Cheeba's breakfast?
What are your thoughts on the great DIYFS reformulations (e.g. HHG, Holy Vanilla)?
Are there any Strawberry & Cream recipes that have gotten you excited recently?
Thanks for your time!
Cheeba cooks his own breakfast! Haha, I don't normally have "breakfast" per se but when I do it's definitely a soft scramble gordon ramsey style, on some toast with a bit of cheese and salsa. I like to throw some ricotta in the eggs for an interesting touch!
Oh boy, they reformulated the holy vanilla etc?!? It better be an improvement otherwise there will be hell to pay! I can't speak much to those unfortunately but I know they're touted as being great.
Hmmm, I haven't mixed many S&C other than my own recently, but I've consistently make some changes to it and I got to say I loved throwing in WF Strawberry Cheesecake. I'm always torn between cheesecakes, malts, creams, etc. What about you, have you tried any good ones recently?
Sorry my answers probably weren't that great lol.
Damn, ricotta in the eggs, that's a next level move... gonna give that a shot!
They did indeed reformulate both HHG and HV, and they're pretty much dead now. They even came out with a third HV called Holy Resurrection to try and placate people after HV v2 came out.
WF Strawberry Cheesecake is something I have to investigate a bit more, as well as OSDIY Strawberry Milk. It's not a profile I'm very deep in to at the moment, so I was just looking for a rec or two to get me going.
Your answers were great, and thanks for your time!
Which deathmatch opponent, 100 duck-sized horses or one horse sized duck?
Over under 5 questions from /u/humanpuck on this AMA?
Also, whats your honest opinion on the current reigning recipe of the year? /u/Apexified really knows how to pick em.
I think I'm missing the CAP Yellow Peach (How is it with so many GD Flavors I still find myself missing some?!?), but I have enough experience with the others to know that this looks like a really solid recipe, I can see why it did so well
Thanks, I think so too.
/u/CheebaSteeba you should really check out Dave's acceptance speech
Considering your love for Cola's I've been trying to recreate this "Apple Coke" that I had at Disney when I was younger. Its been really tough to nail, any random thoughts or ideas on a general direction?
Oooh, apple cola, interesting! I think picking the right apple there is going to be the toughest part. You're going to want an apple that will stand up to the spice of cola, and maybe even play off the spice a bit with some peel note I would think. I would maybe start with FLV Apple Pop? And my go-to for a cola base is a combo of FA and FLV Cola, might need to tweak the %s on the colas based on how the apple is coming through though.
Do you remember which community recipe you last wrote a review for?
Oh goodness, that's a tough one lol. Had to look it up! It was for a Noted episode and I need to do a better job of leaving reviews overall haha.
Pretty sure it was 3^4 by KylezKloudz
Thanks for the review! 😊👊 That recipe is delicious and I honestly just got lucky on that one... I was sitting there looking at flavors and said, "I wonder how these 4 concentrates will work together @ 3%?"🤔 But that's the beauty & simplicity that mixing is/can be... Definitely a good beginner style recipe but advanced style taste!🤤🤤🤤
It's the first review I've ever gotten on a recipe by a "famous" 😎 mixer... 😆 Thanks again! 👊
Hahaha, I'd hardly call myself famous, but I was happy to mix it! Good stuff man, keep up the journey
edit: I know right? it really can be as easy or complicated as you make it, always interesting to get some insight on how other people mix or how they came about their successes
How many siblings do you have?
Funny, I always thought CheebaSteeba had something to do with weed - Assumptions, assumptions ..

On to the questions:
What's been your best additions in terms of vaping hardware?
What would you say has been your most used flavoring over the years?
How often do you check your reddit PM's ?
Haha, it definitely does have to do with the Cheba!
Dude I'm still using my old ass velocity and shitty tesla touch I've had for years lol. I really need to get some new stuff. I did have a Twisted Messes squared (or whatever) which I liked a lot but I lost the top cap in my car and could not for the life of me find it (and I keep my car very clean and tidy as an Uber driver!)
Most used flavoring is probably either INW Shisha Strawberry or TFA VBIC. Aside from those I would say VT Banana Custard.
I never check my reddit PM's, but now that I'm on here mingling again, maybe I'll start!
Well, when you find something that works, not point in changing it!
Have you ever taken a stab at replicating tasty Vapor’s frosted oatmeal cookie? That’s been my ADV for about 5 years now and I’m panicking about them closing at the end of the month :(. I could also deal with quickstraw, but hey, I’m not picky.
I haven't! And i think that might be one of their harder ones to replicate. I know I saw when I went over there today to make sure I had the name right that they're closing, so sad =( I should pick up some of my favorites for the memories. I really liked Geoff's Blend, their cola, and their rainbow sherbet.
