How do I make eJuice that's not sweet?
submitted over 5 years ago by KnightstarK

I'm having a period where I don't want to taste anything sweet. Fruits, bakery, etc. - NOTHING. I just want to enjoy vaping without the sweetness associated with it.

Now, I tried vaping unflavored VG/PG(70/30) but even that had a sweet taste to it.

Although I would love to have something that doesn't taste like anything at all, I am willing to settle for a recipe(maybe?) of something that tastes bitter or sour or anything else.

So, is it possible or am I being unrealistic here?

ooooh.

According to my preferred vendor's website:

"With Bitter Wizard, you can reduce, or even eliminate the basic sweet taste of PG or VG. Adding a small amount of Bitter Wizard to your DIY mix will give you a pleasantly bitter aftertaste, and it only becomes more effective as you increase the dosage. Bitter Wizard blends extremely well with dark and tobacco flavors."

Sounds like this will do just the trick.

I just have to say this dude - what the fuck man. I don't mix at 8% supersweet but to eliminate any sweetness? For science, maybe....for pleasure? Watch it, boys, this is one sick puppy.

Hahaha. Total sicko, indeed.

I enjoy my bottle of God's Milk as much as the next guy, but chain-vaping sweet juice during the quarantine makes the back of my teeth tingle.

Ok. So the description on the vendors site, made me think: I've never actually DIYed tobacco mixes and it says Bitter Wizard goes well with tobacco flavors.

Do you have any experience with tob? Any recipe you'd recommend (ATF is down AtM)?

It's not so much that BW goes well with tobacco, but that anybody who's looking for a cigarette- or cigar-like tobacco (or a straight pipe flake, as opposed to, say, a Cavendish) is probably looking for a way to eliminate the sweetness of VG, and to a lesser degree PG, and BW will do that. It makes an authentic tobacco more like authentic tobacco. Do note, though, that BW is a sweetness-killer by virtue of being godawful bitter - if you use enough that you can taste the BW, it's not a pleasant thing at all. Add by drops until the undesired sweetness is gone, then stop.

Menthol or sour flavors maybe

I have WS-23, it didn't do anything to the flavor, just makes the exhale cool. So, I'm not sure if it would help with the sweetness.

I've never ventured into sour flavours, could you suggest any good recipes?

Fw pink lemonade is very tart. It's not super sweet that was the only juice I vaped for a year or so it's really sour and tangy Its awesome

Straight up FW Pink Lemonade? Never would've guessed it.

I've never vaped single flavors before, and ATF seems to be down at the moment, might as well give it a shot.

Menthol isn't even remotely similar to ws23 just as an fyi.

Menthol is a mint flavor with cooling. WS-23 is just a cooling agent, not menthol.

Try 1% INW Lemon Mix, maybe with 2% FLV pink guava..

Pretty sure there are no real sour flavourings

Not sour, but bitter and tart are both possible. FW ecaffeine would give bitterness. Many citrus flavors can deliver tart.

VG is sweet. Try lowering it?

I use an iStick Mix mod with a GeekVape Zeus X RTA.

What would be the minimum I can take the VG on my setup?

I'd suggest mixing up a small bottle of 50/50 and see how it goes.

I'll give it a shot.

This is the first time I'm seeing anyone who thinks even VG is too sweet lol

In my mind a juice can't be sweet without the addition of a good amount sweetener. Base vg and pg are definitely disgusting tasting, but not sweet when inhaled.

You could angle toward teas, boozy recipes, or heavy tobaccos. In that last case look for stuff using INW dirty neutral base. Those would be a fair bet to stay low on the sweetness

Anything floral works great.

I'm sorry, I'm relatively new to vaping and the years of smoking has ruined my sense of taste and smell, so I suck at imagining recipes or distinguishing flavors on my own.

Any "floral" recipe or particular flavor you can suggest?

by MissRepresentover 5 years ago

If I could reproduce the florals from Kai Virgin Vapors that would be awesome. They have a rose vape that is more dry than sweet. Also their lavender is true to taste. What i find is that its a balanced all day kind of vape.

It is believed that they source from Medicine Flower or possibly Natures Flavors. You can tell their flavoring is not the typical sweet bakery type like Flavor Arts. For instance the Flavor Arts rose is a rose candy flavor while Kais is a true rose taste almost as if you bit into a rose petal. I think its because its a true extract not just a lab made flavor

damn, I wonder what exact product they use to get the rose flavor then

I've been looking for ages for a good rose flavor to make a turkish delight recipe with

You can dig through these posts if you're so inclined:

I know of some recipes you should try then:

Yogurts: Addy's Yogurt , Blue'addy Yogurt , Peach yogurt fresh03 recipe

Bitter notes: Pumpkin Cream Pie (i'd personally put less pumpkin spice in, but it's definitely not sweet this one)

Other: Blackberry Custard Pie (this one has no sweetener and it doesn't taste sweet, despite FW blueberry tasting kinda sweet ish it's nowhere near flavors like inw shisha strawberry and such)

and I won't even bother formatting this one since you've probably already tried it, Ella's Shortbread Biscuit is an accutare shortbread biscuit and it's buttery, crumbly but not sweet:https://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/550035/Ella%27s%20Shortbread%20Biscuit

I've used Bitter Wizard in the past and it does the job, it IS potent. I used one drop per 30ml or 3 drops for 60ml because I'm crazy like that. I cannot stand sweet juices, especially ones that leave a lingering taste in my mouth. unflavored is too sweet for me as well. you can go overboard with it, and your vape will turn dry as cardboard, BUT NOT SWEET. ha.

I was going through the same thing. Try Tobaccos

1 points

by TheRiplerover 5 years ago

I had the same issue with unflavored. I found just a touch of wintergreen and/or spearmint did the trick to cut that dull sickly sweet flavor of VG.

Last batch, I used something like .4ml total in 250ml of juice.

1 points

by Rotor_Tillerover 5 years ago

And if they want to turn it up a bit: 3% TFA Wintergreen, 1% TFA Peppermint, and .5% Ws-23 makes for a good mint recipe that isn't sweet.

1 points

by TheRiplerover 5 years ago

Peppermint is too sweet for me. Some spearmint contain peppermint, I prefer those that don't. Menthol is good sometimes too. I like it when I feel stuffy.

I think I would keel over at 3-5% flavor. :0 ..but I know many like it.

by Rotor_Tillerover 5 years ago

Ah. I myself can't find any sweet notes in a juice unless I use 2% Sucralose. I wish I could taste the sweet note that some people do.

Try out Inawera Sesame at 2.5% and 2 weeks steeping

its amazing (dont get sweet sesame, just the sesame v1)

Don't add sweetener.

5 points

by erinkjeanover 5 years ago

Unflavored is sweet regardless of sweetener being added.

1 points

by Rotor_Tillerover 5 years ago

I'd call it more bitter than anything else.

I'm not sure you understood my question, but thanks for the suggestion anyway.
