FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
How'd you get your handle?
Folkart is who I am and what I do. Since 1992 I have been an artist creating folk art pottery. Most of my work includes grotesque faces applied to pots I create, and well,... the name stuck. http://www.steveabeepottery.com/
How long have you been mixing for?
I started mixing in early 2016 after being so let down from all the commercial e-liquids I tried. DIY OR DIE had just gotten a foot-hold in the mixing world and Wayne Walker was a tremendous resource for me.
Current flavor or profile obsession?
My long term obsession will always be chocolates. I love chocolates and it has to be about the hardest profile to tackle, but the quest must go on to perfect it.
Most/Least disappointing flavors that was/not as expected?
Most disappointing flavors is all cherries. I love cherries and to this day there is none I have found that comes close to the real thing. The Least disappointing flavor has to be FA Custard Premium, it's just so fucking good.
Mixing Milestone?
My first milestone was taking Wayne Walker's DIY Mixing 202 Class. It was the first class he offered and I met some very talented mixers there including Tam_Vapes, and David Haney aka 007. In his class, Wayne suggested we find other mixers to mix with and that was probably the best advice I received from him. I've taken that advice and have learned so much from collaborating with other mixers. That advice culminated into DEVELOPED; what a great bunch of guys! Love you much.
My second milestone was meeting Lewis and Karl, owners of Chefs Flavours, while at the Las Vegas Vape Expo(shout out to Bryson from Flavorah) a few years back. Such a great bunch of guys. They were gracious enough to give me a shot(no pun intended) and started producing some of my recipes as one shots. Thank you for having faith in me.....ok, enough of the teenage chick flick shit.
Recipes you admire/love?
I would have to say:
- Obsidian by Wayne Walker - It was the first recipe I mixed by another mixer that checked all the boxes for me - https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/44101#obsidian_by_enyawreklaw_by_enyawreklaw. That recipe formed the way I wanted to create my recipes; to deliver an experience that would please the senses.
White whale?
The perfect Chocolate. But with that being said I would love to make a Cherry Yum Yum. But unfortunately, no good cherries. https://www.thecountrycook.net/no-bake-cherry-yum-yum/
How would you describe your mixing style?
Poke and Hope ;)
Advice for new mixers?
Keep it simple, have fun, and don't be afraid to fail. Every combination of flavorings has something to teach you. Experiment with flavorings that you wouldn't normally think of in a mix. Don't rely on what the label says, rely on what you taste.
Was the only reason you put "meeting Lewis and Karl" instead of "sharing a hotel room with ID10-T" the fact that you didn't want to make people too jealous?
What happen in Vegas is between you and me ...only ;) kiss kiss
How do you stay motivated to meticulously maintain your beard during quarantine?
Are you noticing that you're vaping more or less?
How much do you miss Alfred? Don't pretend you don't
How do you decide what kind of profile you want to work on when you're theory crafting?
Beard Maintenance: So important to the Porn Hub ladies
Vaping the same, mixing more
Alfred who?
I often search the web for inspiration when it comes to profiles to tackle. I just search for things I like to eat and try to create it in vape form,...but no chili profiles.
What profile did you try the most attempts at. Also, how high is that number.
Killer Kustard clone....so many versions....
What #?
What do you consider your best work so far? What do you consider the best developed recipe created so far? Which recipe do you think you added the most to personally? I can't stand sweet cream, makes me nauseated, can you understand that profile and what "buttery" stuff you guys release is the least like sweat cream?
I have to say Mayan Milk is my best work. It was a labor of love to create a chocolate milk that was actually good.
The best DEVELOPED recipe I think was probably the peanut butter cookie RY4, in my opinion.
Recipe personality?...hmm Pineapple Bitch
Peach Shush is a good non-sweet cream one.
Sorry if I wasn't totally clear, are all butter flavors the same 'chemicals' that I don't like in Sweet Cream, and if not, are there ones you can recommend / recipes you've done?
Why is Aztec Gold so good?
Magic. I have worked on chocolates for so long. You just have to think of chocolate flavorings as a spice and use it like you would use a cinnamon,..just a spice to add to the base.
My dude! I vaped mayan milk for months but aztec is just a step above. I have creme egg steeping too. Tried it today after mixing it 3 days ago, not quite sure about it yet. Tastes a little... Burnt maybe?
What size Tshirt do you wear?
Extra large, just like my condo......oh nevermind
I get your think with cherries, just tastes like chemicals to me...
Do you know of any decent banana, I'm talking angel delight, banana foam sweets (the authentic "fake banana" flavour)?
What is your best authentic chocolate concentrate you recomend?
There's a couple:
CAP Double Chocolate V2 but it have a slight nutty note
HS Australian Chocolate - it is best for a chocolate syrup or chocolate milk
HS Chocolate Cream to add a slight sourness and creaminess to chocolates
VT Dark Chocolate well to add a bitter sweet chocolate note, but use it low
and FLV Mocha...damn good chocolate but with a very slight mocha note
What is your feel on MF Dark?
I do like it. It's probably the most accurate to a "real" chocolate. However, from my testing it still has a "musty" off note that most chocolates have at around 1.5%. Less than that it's barely noticeable. It is a deep, chocolate vibe that a lot of other chocolates don't have and if they do, you get a very bad "musty" off note from them. . But the price is so out of each I find it hard to create recipes using it. But, if you're just mixing for yourself, pick it up...good flavoring.
You say no good cherries, but I find that INW Cherries is the best one out there and not medicinal at all. What's your opinion? Others can weigh in too.
I agree, INW Cherries is the best, however, to make a "true" cherry flavor, it needs to have some sort of tartness that's almost impossible to emulate in vape form. I suppose adding some sort of lime or lemon could help, but far from a "real" cherry flavor. Just my 2cents worth. But INW Cherries is the best with the least amount of medicine notes for sure.
Ok,.... is it time for everyone to get NAKED?
How many flavors do you actually have?
around 1200
With that many flavors, how do to have them organized... by company, name, category, flavor type, etc..?
TFA DX Sweet Cream. Why?!
Gotta love that baby vomit
Hmm I may try this since regular sweet cream makes me adult vomit
Which Developed recipe should I try next? Not everyone but me, personally. If it helps, I really enjoyed these three:
Which Folkart recipe should I try next?
If it helps, I'm much more sensitive to AP than you are and too much of it just ruins a juice for me. I need a Folkart recipe without too much AP-ness.
DEVELOPED recipe: Peanut Butter Cookie RY4, because,....well you know
Folkart Recipe: Butter Beer 1707
Oh. since I know you love coffees, you might want to try my Ice Cream Drowned. Maybe this time you want taste skunk...haha https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/190745#ice_cream_drowned_by_folkart
What was the last recipe created by another person that you left a review for?
Jennifer Winstead I believe, been a while.....I know I gotta do more of those
Do you remember which of her recipes it was?
Hey Folkart,
Just want to say thanks for your Boss Reserve clone recipe. I popped my comment cherry just to say so last week, but might as well thank you directly too while we're here :)

First ever comment on here, but this is a worthy mix to break my silence for! It's not just an ADV for me, its an All Day, Every Damn Day for me ;). At least, I remember mixing up 2x 400mls back to back of this (plus a bunch of 100-200ml bottles of this). Just about to whip up a 1L bottle! It may have something to do with the low overall flavour percentages but this juice makes my coils seem to last longer than other recipes do
Hey folkart, I love developed . You, max an nachef have really good chemistry an don’t at all take yourselves too seriously until it comes to the mixing an then all of your experience normally leads to good recipes, what’s the chances of you doing a lemon twist ( sweet tangy lemonade) style recipe in future ??? Lemons are my favourite fruit profile and like you I also loves chocolate an cherries but being from the UK our chocolates are wayyyyy different to US style chocolate as I’ve tried Mayan milk an have Aztec gold but they just don’t do it for me unfortunately, the recipes are highly rated so it’s a UK/US thing I think. Keep up the good work with boys
Thanks for tying Mayan Milk and Aztec Gold. Tastes are always subjective, so I'm sorry they didn't make the mark for you. I'll try harder ;) . As far as a Tangy Lemonade, sure, we can try that for sure. And thank you for supporting DEVELOPED, we have a great time with that show.
Tastes really are subjective man,but I think expectation is mostly the issue, some flavours like lemon translate really well in vape form whereas flavours like cherry are extremely hard to emulate. I know you have put some serious time and effort into chocolate vapes so its almost definitely a problem at my end. Peanut butter RY4 cookie is in my constant rotation as it’s such a well rounded recipe. Thanks for the reply , didn’t mean to be critical just relaying my experience
What is the recipe you vaped the most the last year? Do you remember what is the worst recipe you tried from someone else?
After spending some time today in the realm of Reditt, I get it.
Last week I received Aftershock and Aztec Gold from Chef's and a quick sample of each excited me, but I will refrain from vaping more until a proper steep. Oh, love Pony on Acid, always have a big bottle ready to vape. Actually, there are several other mixes I enjoy that have your fingerprints on them. Since my question has been answered, let me THANK YOU and DEVELOPED for sharing your skills.
Have you tried VZ/SC Gourmet Chocolate Truffle, and if so what do you think?
I have not, but I've had it on my list to pick up for awhile now, just kinda hard to source it.
What are some flavours you think people should keep in their stash but aren’t really considered staples?
CAP hibiscus for adding sweet stickiness to candies and drinks.
WF shortbread cookies - It a great substitute for CAP sugar cookie.
VT Butter base - The best butter out there
VT vanilla classic
WF crispy waffer - great vanilla cream filled light wafer, great for a base of a vanilla cookie
Just to name a few
I noticed in your latest video on developed you mixed up at ‘“max vg” is that how you always vape or only when you’re working on recipes? If it’s just for development, why do you do it this way?
