Bad flavoring?
submitted over 5 years ago by Keqehi

I got some TFA Butter cream about 6-7 months ago and I just used some in a flavor. I started to mix and smelled something off. I sniffed the bottle I was mixing in and smelled a bit of a sour smell. I stopped adding butter cream and figured out it was that. I didn’t think anything of it thinking my sniffer was off. I finished my mix and everything tastes great except there is this off after taste. Tastes almost exactly like the sour smell. Should I toss this bottle? I don’t feel bad after vaping but I’m a bit worried. Maybe it just needs steep time? I haven’t used this flavor much so I don’t know. It was stored in my flavor box(a big tackle box), so it was in a dark decently cool place.

It's possible it's gone bad, but it's far more likely that you just don't like that flavor. A lot of creamier or butterier flavors have butyric acid in them, which a lot of people don't mind, but some people find it to taste a bit like the sour part of vomit.

For your sake, though, I'm hoping it's not sensitivity to butyric acid, since that's in way more flavors than you think, and it really limits your options.

Hmm... I’m hoping not either. I’m also hoping it didn’t go bad. I have a bunch of cream and butter flavors. I’ll have to see if they have that acid in them. Then try them one by one but I’ve never had a issue before. Thanks for the info though. :)

Butyric acid isn't the end of world. It's at most inconvenient. If that flavor does contain butyric acid and responsible for the nasty taste it will steep out.

First of all, I don‘t think TFA even makes a Butter Cream. Which is it? At what % did you use it at? I‘m also guessing you didn’t let it steep (steep = letting it sit in a dark cool place over a period of time!). If it’s CAP Butter Cream, reviews state that it needs a good 2-3 week steep.

So, it was flavorwest butter cream. My bad.

FW is really inconsistent. Most of their flavors are just garbage, a few of them are great.

FW Butter Cream isn't one of the garbage flavors: https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/102855

I was pretty sure it was a TFA but I’ll check when I get home. It might have been Cap. I stopped adding at 1.5%

I didn’t let it steep, it was a shake and vape. I ran out of juice so I found a quick recipe.

Definitely make some bottles to give yourself time to steep em. Just found a recipe I really like but it took a week of steeping with a couple days of breathing for me to really enjoy it

TFA just doesn't make good creams in general imo.

TFA Sweat Cream seems pretty realistic.

I doubt it’s bad. A lot of flavors have some funk to them and are really only suited for using at low %’s as a background note in a mix. I use Capella butter cream in apple buttah but wouldn’t dare vape it by itself.

Alot of cream flavors have a funky smell to them. Most creams need a steep. Depending on which cream could be anywhere from 3-14 days.

Butter flavors just smell atrocious but they add a good flavor if used right.
