PSA: Stock up on Nicotine Now
submitted over 5 years ago by EdibleMalfunctionI found my thrill on Blueberry Hill

If you are going to continue vaping, mixing or are thinking about getting into mixing, I recommend you stock up on your lifetime supply soon. Otherwise, you'll be ruining your wallet with buying nicotine. This of course, does not apply if you are not in the US.

I have about a years worth stored at my normal use rates of 20-30ml @2% Nic. Not enough but a start. But I realize vaping for me at this point now is about the action and flavor and will start weening myself off Nic completely with any luck. But I won’t give up vaping that’s for sure

Nothing wrong with stocking up some. But I doubt this bill has a chance of becoming law. It would have the same effect as the flavor ban. Killing jobs as well as millions of Americans by forcing them to smoke. Noticed as well this bill comes from the great state of New York. Where there is no cash bond on pedophiles. I know the flavor ban had bipartisan support. But this is an outrageous taxation thought up by and brought forward by the party that is in complete free fall. Still confused? Democratic Party.

Even though most bills die through the process I'm betting Nicotine Tax will pass!

Look at the MSA &or federal tax laws, nothing stoped 46 states from getting billions per year and nothing stoped a near 50-70% tax before.

There are near 50 purposed Nic Tax bills many of which are 80%

Just be prepared. I've been calling every state rep asking for them not to pass anti vaping bills that limit access to 21+, ban devices/flavors or taxes on vaping products. Guess what most said:

They basically said they will do what they have to to save kids, making sure to spread some more vaping propaganda in a copy&paste response.

Yes. I also have been emailing House members & Senators for months & this is the standard response I get. As you said, it is some horseshit about saving children from the scourge of nicotine, especially vaping. It made me SO angry. I would have been much less angry if I had gotten zero response. I come from large family in which everybody smoked, & I was the first to switch from cigs to vaping. They all thought I was crazy. Now, it is like dominoes.....I am sending vaping supplies & juice to siblings & mom like crazy. Fortunately, I have two grown sons who never smoked or vaped & they don't see what all the big deal is.

We have this problem in the UK. Can only buy 18mg max nicotine in 10ml bottles (as many as you like.) 72mg in large quantities is only available on a business to business basis. Works out very expensive for us diyers even at 3mg doses. My supply has just run out from 2016! It's £1-2 per 10ml bottle now. Buy some now incase it goes the same way in USA

Sorry I have to rant...

Can you say PROHIBITION V2...

Who do you really think is driving this BS. It sure as hell is not people protecting kids. There are less kids smoking now than when I was in high school. Vaping too. Vaping has been around in the US for a long time. Going strong since about 2003. All the sudden 17 years later we have all of this media coverage about some kids that died from "VAPING". Sorry if I sound heartless. I am not. It is heartbreaking that these kids died. But is was not from "VAPING".

People need to get the facts straight and it is this crap is exactly why I don't watch the news. The news is controlled or manipulated by corporate America. Big Tobacco is going to get there way one way or another. They are loosing their asses to vaping. They have lost so many addicted customer they are pushing the right buttons (Media Scares) to make a change that will hopefully start lining their pockets with money again. Who else do you think is loosing crap loads of money due to the lost income from tobacco sales. Could it have something to do with lost tax revenue? Look what they are doing to try to correct it. And what will those taxes pay for?

I know about 200 people that used to smoke cigarettes. of those only 5 still do. 20 have quit completely and the rest have moved over to vaping. And most of those are people are 30 years old or older.

Buy all means stock up on all of the Nicotine you can. Personally I think that even if it goes through it wont stick for long. Just like the flavor bans that only lasted a few months in several states. The taxes might stick. Gotta pay for that Free health care for life.

There are several drugs that are not legal only because they are really easy to grow your own and really hard to control the tax revenue on.

Maybe some will think I am a wack job but really take a step back and look at what history has taught us.

1 points

by pjp88029over 5 years ago

Losing, as in lost; not Loosing as in Loosen, the opposite of Tight.

1 points

by LadyDIYover 5 years ago

You are absolutely NOT a wack job. Nobody got sick or died from vaping nicotine ejuice made with standard PG, VG & flavors. Literally, not one person. I am not counting a few kids that made themselves nic sick a few times from 50 mg juuls. I mean the folks that became seriously ill or died. NOT from vaping standard ingredient nicotine ejuices. Wow, QFLK, you definitely had some insight on vaping way before I did, the first time I had contact with vaping was in 2008. Even then all I could find was tiny stick batteries (cigalikes) & cartomizers.....it didn't keep me off the cigs like I needed. But it did help me cut my smoking in about half. I finally quit for good & completely switched over in 2019, yay! But by then, with all the bullshit propaganda in the gov't & media, my (smoking) family members actually told me I was crazy for doing something so "crazy" & dangerous, lol! Now, my family members are switching to vaping like dominoes falling, thank goodness! Speaking of media scares, has anyone seen the crazy new round of anti-vaping TV ads that are playing in heavy rotation, especially on so-called "family" type channels? They are shameless propaganda.

Yesterday an old man was sitting next to me outside the library smoking a cigarette. Told me my vape was killing people and I should be careful.

He then asked if I had access to pills. Because his subroxen(?) Doctor moved to another city.

Blows my mind that someone can tell me vaping is dangerous and then ask me for opioids in the same breath. People don't understand vaping.

When freezing. Can you leave it (unopened) in the bottle it comes in? Or is it best to transfer to amber glass immediately?

3 points

by EdibleMalfunctionover 5 years agoI found my thrill on Blueberry Hill

I'd say it depends on how long it will be in that bottle.

7 points

by TheTeaSet66over 5 years ago

I’m just trying to plan ahead. If I order a whole bunch of nic, do I need to order a whole bunch of amber bottles too? Or can I store in the original bottle until I open it. I’d rather have 5 jugs of nic than 25 amber bottles if that makes sense.

2 points

by -fryguy-over 5 years ago

If it can pull o2 from plastic it can oxidize. They say the best is vg in an amber bottle with a little room to expand. It expands some when freezing.. they have those black tops that dont allow o2 in.... vg almost turns to a solid when frozen which will help also... but also vg can absorb smells and stuff from surrounding and plastic which is why it is important to use amber glass..some guy had it in his freezer for 6 years like that and it was fine... I just got my gallon of salt nic at 100mg. I vape about 10 mls a day @ 20 mg so I got 5 years of vaping then enough to cut down for another 2 or so.. hell if I cut down quicker I will have about 10 years worth.. I'd just hate to do this and have it go bad in 6 months..

1 points

by EdibleMalfunctionover 5 years agoI found my thrill on Blueberry Hill

Yeah for sure, if it's for the long haul, I'd use glass

1 points

by Narcil4over 5 years ago

There's usually not much light in a freezer, no point putting it in amber bottles. I do recommend storing it in 100 ml bottles however so you don't oxidize all of it when you start using it.

3 points

by -fryguy-over 5 years ago

I just got a gallon. Of 100mg.. I vape 10 mls of 20mg a day and the gallon will last me roughly 6 years..

Just take mg you vape times the amount of mls a day.. take that times 365.. that will tell you how much nic you use in a year.. take that number divided by 100.. that will be the ml amount of 100mg per ml you need a year.

1 points

by LadyDIYover 5 years ago

It is a good idea, even if you just buy zero nicotine juices in the beginning & add your own nic while you are easing into the diy process. From the start, I purchased 100mg/ml nicotine in PG. It makes calculations super easy & the PG suspension is easy to freeze & if you buy good quality nic, lasts a LONG time without oxidizing. Years.

-2 points

by mcgrvyover 5 years ago

Just be careful with 100mg/ml strength as that is a dangerous concentration level. You have to wear nitrile gloves when handling as nicotine can be absorbed through the skin. If you have a spill, I'm not even sure how to clean it up. Obviously you don't want kids around it either. I started with 100mg/ml but switched to 40mg/ml. I buy gallons, keep them in a locked freezer and transfer to a L bottle whenever I need to re-up and a even at 40mg/ml it lasts a very long time.

12 points

by bighedstevover 5 years ago

100mg/ml isn't as dangerous as you suggest. I've spilt it all over my hands when transferring from big to small bottle and just washed my hands. Didn't die. Cleaned it up off the table with some windex.

2 points

by mcgrvyover 5 years ago

Ok, I stand corrected. When I started diy 6 years ago, everything I read was to protect yourself and don't get it on your skin at that level, even wear a full face mask, long sleeves, etc. With 3 kids, I figured I'd play it safe.

7 points

by stabloggerover 5 years ago

If you'd cover your whole arm with 100mg/ml nicotine solution, the absorption would be about 3mg per 15 minutes. So, even with pure 1000mg/ml nicotine this would be 30mg in 15 minutes, unpleasant, but not dangerous for adults...and I doubt someone would leave it on the skin for this time or spill that much.

It should be handled with care, it's very dangerous for kids and animals, especially if ingested, but gloves are not necessary when handling it...wearing glasses is recommended since a drop in the eye is really painful.

2 points

by RealNitrogenover 5 years ago

Hold the fucking phone! If I am reading this right, it is $20.81 per gram of nicotine. Right now, on nicotine river, a 100 mg/ml 150 ml bottle (15 g total) costs $8.99. With this tax, it would be $417.15 in tax for a total of $426.14. A 4540% tax?!? That’s insane!

9 points

by Solubilityisfunover 5 years ago

This will accomplish one thing, and one thing only. Nicotine black market. Nicotine smuggling and subsequent distribution via the dark net will become huge. China and India in particular have plenty of vendors of experience in beating customs to bring bulk chemicals of demand into markets in need. Domestic distributors will purchase this in bulk and send it to our mailboxes for a markup, but nothing like this joke of a tax.

Its not going to change much other than moving the profits to other hands and limit the ability to regulate quality which has the opposite of the intended effect. Thinking is hard, emotion is easy. Such is the nature of politics.

No, it's different. An example from the EU: There is a 20mg/ml nicotine cap and products containing nicotine may only be sold in 10ml bottles. So what do some chinese nicotine suppliers (big and well known companies, no shady drug dealers) do? They establish local warehouses and then ship from there. Since there are no custom controls inside the EU, risk is close to zero. This way 100mg and 200mg nic is available in the usual big bottles, no matter what the EU TDP regulations say.

So you bet these companies are ready to open up an US warehouse the day the tax hits.

That is correct. While it is highly unlikely to pass both houses of congress at the initially proposed rate, some form of federal nicotine tax is almost certainly coming in the not too distant future.

To add insult to injury, the states that haven't already done so are likely to enact their own excise taxes on e-juice as well.

you may not like this comment, but seriously, why dont you move off nicotine altogether?lower the dosage constantly over a few weeks and be done with it.

im saying this cos for me it was the first thing i did, quit nicotine. i vape without and it tastes even better to me, but thats individual. still, why nicotine at all, why not just leave it behind as a thing of the past? wasnt this whole vaping thing to get away from... addiction - then why not get away from nicotine as logical follow-up? why keeping up that addiction as "must have nic in the mix!" ?

and its not meant as being smart, its meant as a serious question to consider for those who have ears anyway. everyone else - no need to explain how you justify constantly doing damage to your health... it wouldnt serve any purpose.

Ban? This is about the nicotine tax.

3 points

by TheTeaSet66over 5 years ago

I guess ban was the wrong word. I know with the PMTA deadline being May 12 everything vaping related is going to be essentially banned or taxed to death. This will drive everyone to rebuildables and DIY juices. What I’m asking is if individual flavors will fall under the PMTA stuff or are they like wire, cotton, PG, and VG where they have other uses outside of vaping so they’re excluded from the legislature.
