Whats wrong with TPA coconut?
submitted over 5 years ago by Pjexaf

About a year ago I tried to cook juices with TPA coconut aroma. Now I bought TPA Coconut Extra (from other seller) and add it 3% to juice (for MTL).

In both cases flavor apper is really weird. Not just strange, TPA coconut feels like a awful chemical soap.

Is it normal for this flavor?

Where'd you get the idea to use it at 3%?

I checked some sites and it says that average amount is 1-3%

So I think for MTL 3% should be Ok.

I got this stuff and at anything over like .5% it tastes like sunscreen lotion. It's an accent flavor you want to use at low percentages. I see people using it at higher percentages in a recipe clone a lot, I think it's called like Tiger's Blood or something, which would probably warp average amount.

I'd never vape it by itself and never use more than a few drops when I do use it.

The stuff is super potent...

Even 0.5% seems high, to me. One of my recipes calls for 0.3% and I have to be very careful not to go any higher than that, or it really overrides the other flavors, and that's in a recipe with roughly 20% total flavoring.

I can only imagine what 3% Coconut Extra would taste like and it sounds disgusting, try .5% and adjust from there.

Or if you can you should get some FLV Sweet Coconut and try it at 1.5%, it's the best coconut out there.

So if I dilute juice, the flavor will be better?...

Averages aren't a bad way to go. But it depends on the source. In 2014 Coconut Extra needed to be used pretty high in order to taste anything but equipment has changed and using averages that still include usage data from back then is going to skew the results.

If you look at the graph, it spikes at 1%. And even then, as a single flavor, you're more likely to get off notes than if you have it in a mix with other flavors that can cover those up.

There are better coconut flavors, that taste far less like suntan lotion. Check out the Coconut Flavor of the Week's:

coconut extra at 3% is really high

everyone has different sensitivities to flavours

I'm sensitive to coco extra myself so I use the stuff like 2 - 10 drops per 30 ml it's actually pretty good

Why are you cooking your juice?

It's just cheaper.

I was joking. Cooking is a weird word to describe making juice. There's no cooking involved.

Actually I heat it in microwave sometimes (about 5-10 sec), for better mixing. So it almost a cooking =)

I have a much better time mixing and vaping with FA Coconut at ~2% and/or FLV Sweet Coconut at ~1%.

FA is my favorite brand, but it not easy to find they aromas in my place. Will be interesting try their coconut if I have the opportunity.

3% is way, way too high for this flavor

Yes, many coconut flavors get soapy if you take them too high. TFA Coconut isn't very good, and TFA Coconut Extra is more of a candy flavor than realistic coconut.

I've been quite happy with LA Coconut, give that a try if it's available in your country.

Highly suggest either FLV Sweet Coconut or FLV Coconut. Here is video from Concrete breaking down a bunch of the coconut flavors and usage rates/applications

I have tfa coconut and I would use it below 1% though I bought flavorah sweet coconut and it's so much better I only use it now.

TFA coconut flavors can give you anything you want from Banana Boat to Hawaiian Tropic. If you want something more like coconut, FLV Coconut, FLV Sweet Coconut, and maybe FA Coconut. But if you want coconut suntan lotion, you can't beat TFA.

I like coconut extra but as others said, take it lower. It's a very candy coconut flavor, reminds me a bit of Malibu coconut rum.

So I make a new juice with 0.5% Coconut Extra, 6% Grape Juice (TPA), 1% Malaysian cooler.

I feel a grape a little bit (again, I use MTL), cooler, and definitely feel chemical soup from coconut.

Verdict: Something wrong with TPA Coconut.

TPA coconut extra is very useful imo. I max it out at 1% tops though, and that with very strong flavors only. Think alcohol and tobacco flavors.

I use it regularly in a smoky coconut bourbon mix and its excellent. It absolutely needs another coconut alongside it. Would never use it as the sole coconut for any purpose.

After a week of steeping the aroma is differently better, but it's not a coconut feeling. More like a balm.
