Hey guys. I'd like to get into mixing as I use high nic salts in pod systems 90% of the time and premium juices where I come from are ridiculously priced(40usd a 30ml!). Can I just buy the 50/50 100mg Nicotine salt base from Nicotine River and some Capella flavourings? Would the flavouring not mess with the ratio when mixing? Are there any other good sites that sell nicotine salt base and flavouring other than Nicotine River that are recommended?
Thank you!
I would definitely say to buy a scale that weighs down to 0.01g and mix by weight. It makes everything so much quicker, easier and more enjoyable. Plus next to no clean up afterwards. Check out the DIYORDIE YouTube channel if you haven’t already. He has some great beginner videos on basically everything.

That’s one where he talks about mixing with a scale- you can find tons of videos from there. They mostly pretty short and easy to digest.
Have you considered mixing one shots? That would be the easiest way to do it and still cheap. I think you can make about 300ml of juice for around £7.50 at Chefs- but they sell them at most places that sell flavourings if you’re not in the UK (although they ship to a lot of places). Plus you’ll need to get the VG/PG, nicotine, bottles and a scale.
Or go on alltheflavors .com or eliquid recipes and look for highly rated recipes you like the look of and buy the ingredients for those to start off with. When you click on ‘mix’ the calculator will come up and it’s all worked out for you. You just have to measure everything into a bottle. Then you hopefully shouldn’t be wasting a ton of money on bad flavours- there’s a lot of bad flavours out there!
I would also advise that you make small testers of recipes you haven’t tried before. Even if it has loads of great reviews you might hate it and will have wasted a load of ingredients making it. Get some 10ml bottles. I get mine either on Amazon or eBay sent from China. 100 10ml bottles work out to about £7.
Maybe check out Noted if you wanted to get a bit deeper into it, also available on DIYORDIE channel. They talk about flavours- good and bad. They look at a different profile each week- custards, tobaccos... they’ve probably covered most things by now.

That’s a link to a playlist of Noted episodes.
Developed have their own YouTube channel and did a few episodes covering loads of questions beginners might have,
https://youtu.be/DEhbko4w-aA
That’s one of them- there’s a flavour list in the description of flavours they recommend for beginners. Ones that are versatile, easier to work with, more commonly used, essential flavours etc. They normally make recipes together- it’s useful seeing how experienced mixers put things together and why.
Hope some of that helps- I know it’s pretty daunting to start off with. There’s so much information to take in. But if you wanna just mix one shots or other people’s recipes it’s pretty straight forward. Just need to learn how to use the e liquid calculator and measure stuff out.
I would also add, not just the flavours you "like the look of" anything that is remotely in your wheelhouse that is highly rated, give it a try. Once or twice try something completely different, you'll be surprised at how much something new can be enjoyable
Yeah, I totally agree. When you broaden your horizons you can be really surprised. When I started vaping I never thought I’d like tobaccos. But now probably 90% of what I vape is pretty bold, strong tobaccos. Maybe try more than one recipe from a profile you don’t usually vape or don’t think you’ll like. There’s so much variety in how people put together recipes that tackle similar profiles.
At the top of the page, click on the about tab and read The Complete DIY Beginner's Guide. All of your questions will be answered there. Just a tip, always do a search for what you're looking for before you post a question. Spend some time and do some research and you might learn a thing or two.
Before you go and buy some random flavors from CAP that sound good, but may not be good (each flavor house has good, bad and meh flavors) or work well together, I would have a look on alltheflavors.com, a ejuice recipe database. I‘d choose a few recipes that look good to me and buy the needed flavors. In all likelihood they won‘t be all CAP or TFA, etc., but mixed flavor companies. If you need help choosing flavors and/or recipes and getting started in general, you could join our discord.
You want to buy separate containers of vg, pg, and probably 100mg nic salts in either pg or 50/50 pg/VG.
For flavors, look at the flavor list in the sidebar, or find recipes that sound good and buy the flavors to make them.
To mix, you put everything into a calculator with your desired final nic/pg/VG, shake the hell out of your nicotine, and then do what the calculator says.
Yes, that is basically the basics of it, if you are worried about getting all of the right ratios and making sure you end up with what you want, I would suggest using one of the online calculators, https://e-liquid-recipes.com/ , if you dont like the one on this site there are plenty of others, I enjoy this one for several reasons, one is I have used it for awhile so I am used to it, but it also has some great features, like you can enter the flavors that you have and it will show you which recipes you have the ingredients for. I also usually mix by weight and it allows for both using volume or weight. I will say that nic river offers 2 kinds of nic salts, a smooth and a hit, my SO uses salts more than I do, and prefers the HIT over the smooth. However if you dont enjoy throat hit, the smooth has nearly no throat hit. I hope that this covers your questions, if you need any more help, please let me know and I will do my best to help. Also if you are interested I make videos for people who need a visual aid, I wish you the best of luck and hope you enjoy mixing it really is quite enjoyable to do! :) I wish you the best for the future and happy vaping!!! :)
Don't buy there scale but buy 1. Buy more then cap flavors. Try stevia out, fresh Cream and Purilum Strawberry. Get large amounts of pg and vg. I prefer 100% vg nic 100mg. I've compared a few sites lol ok tons tried nude nicotine 15ml for 8 bucks. So maybe bullcity for flavors and vg/pg nude nicotine for nicotine solution and diy supply's is bullcity too. Bottle I get from eightvapes when in stock. As a alternative to nicotine river co. Any ?s you can pm me or chat I'll even soundboard your order if you want
I had a problem with nic river the salt came brown and smelled. Now they replaced right away but I am. I did notice a tickle in my nose and a slight pepper taste at high mg.. also when I switched to nic river I was craving nic so bad and was going through a couple mls more a day which leads me to believe it is underdose. I was buying from liquidnicotinewholesalers.com but tried these buys so I went right back. And once again the nic was so smooth from lmw. And i dont notice nic up to 40mgs but has a perfect throat hit.. so I dont think nic river nic is as good but they did have amazing customer service.. i will o ly buy from lnw.com and the price is the same with the coupon.
I buy nic in vg and buy pg and vg. This way I can make 5050 plus a 60/40 if you get pg only you wont be able to make 5050 at high strength. Plus I may play with higher vg never know. But with vg nic I can do it all.. but yep I started making my own juice because of price for salts and I love it plus there are amazing recipies out there and some great sites. Like ELR
Whats the difference between vg and pg nic? Taste and otherwise?
No difference but, if you buy all pg nic, after adding flavors you can limit yourself as to how much nic your final recipe will have. If you want a 50pg/50vg ejuice and your flavors are 5%, then you can have up to 45% nic. Less if you want fourty sixty. Pg is much easier to work with which is why it is preferred. I vape 30% nic and pg nic is not a problem for me. 50/50 nic gives you more flexibility for higher percentages and is not as thick as all vg nic.
I wouldn’t buy nic in 100% VG just because VG is quite thick and it’s really hard to shake.
btw you should always shake your bottle of nic vigorously whenever you use it so the nicotine is evenly dispersed in the solution. Shake pretty much everything every time you use them- nic and flavours. I always shake my VG and PG, but don’t think that’s necessary? Just habit now.
What strength and what ratio would you like to vape? Adding anything to nic base will change the concentration of nic and the VG ratio of the nic base.
For flavors, (assuming you're from murica) BCF is the other standard. If you want tobacco flavors try vaperstek (they have good nic, but not nic salts last I heard.)
I like anything between 20 and 35mg. So if I get the 50/50 base, how do I offset the ratio chanhe?
Not sure what 50/50 base means, i guess its 50pg 50vg, is it still 100mg in that base? I doubt that because a base is basically ready made, and i dont think they will put 100mg nic in a ready to vape.
Your best bet will be to usr a calculator, eliquid recipes is my goto one, but there are loads.
Punch in your numbers, and see how it offstets it. Because its recipe dependant. 1% concentrate will have less of an affect than 10%
That being said, this is me, and some might disagree, but i don't really feel the "offsets" i make a 6mg 70/30 base in large quantities and then when i make recipes i add my concentrates, steep.
I cant really feel the difference on how a 10% mix is different to a 5 for instance.
The golden rule for new mixers, and also new recipes. Make small batches.
Good luck, enjoy, and welcome to DIY
Oh, that's easy.
Assume 25mg/ml finished juice. With 100mg/ml nic base, even if it was in pure PG you only need a quarter of your mix to be nic base. Nlw, even with insanely overflavored recipes with 25% total flavor, you have room to add straight VG to get the 50:50 ratio you seem to want. Now, if you use 50:50 base nic, it doesn't change the amount used, but it will mean less VG to add, and allow you to use PEG or PDO and keep the actual PG to not as bad levels. The math is pretty simple... If you use 50:50 base nic, for whatever quantity of juice you make if you want to make 50:50 juice you need to add equal amounts of VG as both flavoring and PG/PG alternative.
There is a super simple way to do this. You can buy the PG, VG, and nicotine already mixed together up to gallons at a time and then get concentrated flavor to mix into bottles. Amazon has some great 100ml bottles. I mix all my juices around 15%, and with a 100ml bottle that will always come to 15ml!!!
So grab a variety pack of syringes on Amazon when you get your bottles and do it up my friend!
I should note I make juice for a few friends, and sometimes drip, sometimes use a tank, so I order all my ingredients separate so I can change ratios around.
Happy Vaping!
