Irony
submitted over 5 years ago by Gunkster

Just want to point out the irony in how I got into DIY to save money only to fall in love with it and spend a ton on flavors and RDAs. Worth it.

I started my DIY endeavor because of state taxation. I blossomed early using fuck the govment ideology when creating recipes. Infused with passion, I dove down the hole.

Then one day I stopped. I was like " Do you even know how to actually make a fucking peach cobbler fucktard? "

Long haul equals fat dividends. Sure I never made that peach cobbler. But through the ups and downs, I took equal notes on why the ups, and why the downs? Then you're armed with knowledge. Now you can make top shelf product for the pennies on the floor.

If it makes you feel better there's a DIY peach flavoring from flavor revolution also there's a bunch of recipes in case you ever want to make it 。◕‿◕。

Thank ya. That was a couple years ago. Still haven't made or eaten any peach cobbler either Haha. What my stoned ass was trying to say last night is that's it's only ironic right now. Sure you're gonna buy some shitty concentrates all the way to the end. But your game should develop enough to where you can take x amount of cabbage and drop bombs.

Idk, I feel like the $2500 on spent on equipment and supplies over the past three years still totals out less than store bought juice. But I get your point.

Oh it definitely totals out in the long run. But I am still a new mixer so I’m still spending a lot haha. I just hit 100 flavors!

Edit: also want to add I have a budget and had some for vaping costs and I make sure I don’t go above that budget still. So I’m spending the same amount right now technically.

Meh.

I've spent a fair bit on flavors.

But I basically have free juice for years at this point. So it is at least a wash.

Dude, fiancé kinda got into my behind about my Nic reup for the year - $70. I asked what her box of Newport’s cost and I broke it down to who’s budgeting what for who?

I can’t say I won that one because she’s still smoking and lost her dotsquonk 100..... but I got my Nic.

I’ve been doin DIY now for around 2 an half years and I really struggle to hold back when chefs flavours does a promotion ,they are my local concentrates suppliers and the best selection available online, point proven by the fact that before I sent this message I just spent another £31 (just passed the free shipping limit) with their Valentine’s Day promotion. Up to over 400 different flavours now an that doesn’t even include my stash of one shots. But I always remind myself that it’s a great hobby that I enjoy spending time doing and smoking cost me so much more than money and vaping has been such a positive thing for me that I don’t beat myself up over £30-£50 a month I spend on this awesome hobby. Also have converted atleast 10 people from smoking and that fills me with pride

That’s awesome! Honestly I never smoked cigs I just tried my roommates vape in college and I loved the fruity flavor he had. I think it was Naked’s Hawaiian POG. From there I started vaping and now make my own. It has helped me in other ways though. Instead of quitting smoking it really has curbed my sweets cravings and helped me cut down on sugars.

by St1llFrankover 5 years agoThis flavor... This is not my kind of flavor

I didn't get into DIY to save money. I just wanted more liquid for my money. Is that the same thing? Lol I don't know. I haven't saved squat in two years though. I like trying new recipes and flavors more than saving I guess.

Certain things get played out for me very quick. I'm lucky if I can vape something for more than a few months. I just get sick of everything. If I could just be content with a couple of recipes, I would probably really save money. I'm not made that way though and I'm always trying different things.

It can really seem like that when you start, one way you can really see how much money you are saving, is calculate how much money you used to spend on cigs, a month, I.E if you smoke 1 pack a day $5 a pack 30 days= $150. You can just keep track or I know people who store it and use that as there vape money, and at the end of the year use the rest as there X-mas fund or just mad money. After I finished getting everything I calculated that my juice costs me between $0.005 and $0.02 a ML, it varies from person to person and what equipment and location of course, but it will certainly be a great value. :) Not to mention a lot of enjoyment added to it, and it is great to be able to help my friends find new flavors they enjoy and make them different types of juice.

I like to think in commercial-juice-savings.

For example, I spent all day today making “$300 worth” of juice with about $30 of materials. This should last me the next 5 months (prepping for 3 months of travel).

If you factor in the man hours it takes (including research) the gap definitely closes, but I enjoy my time doing it so it doesn’t count to me :)

$5 a pack? That’s 1985 prices where I live. They’re close to $20 a pack here now. And there’s a flavour ban coming “To save the kids! We, as your elected officials are taking it upon ourselves to look after your kids! You know you can’t do it. You don’t even have to thank us. But it be nice if you could get back to smoking “

Yeah my wife and I spent 220 dollars a month vaping. We vape around 20-25 ml a day combined. I ended up spending that same amount because it was budgeted for vaping before we switched so I’ve just been using the same budget for diy because I need all the things

The obsession with trying/finding flavors. I love it, but it never ends. I just bought dill pickle, bacon and waffles, and pizza flavors today in the never ending hunt for unique and inspiring recipes... actually, after typing that... I might have just been hungry :p

Omg. There’s pizza flavors. The depth of taste is infinite

Well my bf is saving tons of money. He vapes all the shit recipes I make that would otherwise go in the trash, and there's a lot of them.

Hahaha lucky for me I haven’t branched off too much into original recipes I just keep finding ones that I want to make online. One day I’ll make my own though

I am lucky because I don't really care for trying all types of flavors. I run with something basic like 10 flavors that can be slammed together and make me content, at least they have been. The costs for me are drastically cheaper than store bought. A 120ml cost me something like $38 here due to the taxes, for $38, I can make like a quart of juice at least. The rda game, sure it can add up, but that's why you do market research, and realize the intended purpose is all about the same...heat up metal, make juice smoke, inhale smoke.

I see you’re a simple person hahaha. That’s awesome dude glad you got those big cash money savings

I think the big thing is knowing how horrible I used to be. I was buying a new mod every other month or two, a new tank, rda, rta, RSA like every month, and then you add on the juices, it just got to be too much. Whereas I found a few combos that I really enjoy to vape, and they're quick and easy, no crazy steep times, etc. I used to sink big money into it and now I look at it as a nicotine delivery system, nothing more.

I didn’t really have a hobby besides unhealthy amounts of video games. So this is kind of my new hobby. Get me away from a screen use my imagination for once and make something new and tasty. At least that’s my goal when I feel I know the flavors well enough. I did through some stuff together randomly to make a that juice once tasted like orange kool-Aid though. That was interesting

That’s what I do. Usually make a lemonade while things steep
