Cloudy Cream Cheese Icing Concentrate
submitted over 5 years ago by Apocrisy

Hello,I have a "Lauren's Cream Cheese Icing" aroma concentrate (should be a direct rebottle of LorAnns's Cream Cheese Icing from chef's flavours) and today I noticed a white emulsion on the bottom of the bottle, a shake helped it incorporate back into the concentrate, but now the whole thing is cloudy.

The concentrate smells ok and from the drop at the back of the hand taste test I can gather nothing weird in the taste.

My concern is that of safety, I was unable to find the SDS of LorAnns flavorings, so I'm wondering if this is normal, what could be causing this? If it's nothing to worry about I'd rather not discard a 30ml of a potentially tasty concentrate.

Pictures with it next to cap's vanilla custard for clarity comparison. https://imgur.com/a/wp8BF2t

Some flavor components can separate depending on a multitude of factors. If you shake it, and it is fine, then I would not worry. How old is the bottle? Does it settle out again after a period of time.

Not sure why you included the CAP VC bottle though. That doesn't help anything.

The bottle was purchased about a month ago, sitting in a drawer along side my other flavorings at the room temperature of about 20°C (68°Fahrenheit).

Color comparison, so we can see how cloudy the CCI is.

But it's not the same flavor...

Yeah, it's not the same flavor but it illustrates the point of background visibility with a yellow tinted concentrate

I've never used LA Cream Cheese Icing, but I've never seen a flavor concentrate separate either. I'd be concerned.

Edit: I took the juice out of an Vype epod and mixed it with more PG & VG (trying to dilute the nicotine). It did the same sort of thing. Turns out there is water in their juice. It eventually settled down. Maybe LA has some distilled water in their concentrate?

More likely atmospheric moisture could've been absorbed into it. Isn't the humidity in the UK usually 90%+?

Also, several flavorings are notorious for separating, Blood Orange is the first that comes to mind...

Blood Orange reminded me of chicken tikka masala after it's cooled off. I about fell off my chair the first time I saw it separate.

I had the same thing happen for my TFA Malted Milk when it arrived with some other flavours. This is crystalization that happens when the bottle gets cold. Could be the weather, could be that it was refrigerated. U can just warm up the bottle give a good shake or 3 and it should dissolve back into the liquid

Same happened with my Malted Milk. I keep a small heater where I store it and have no issues with that anymore.

I’ve had the similar issue with a brand new bottle I purchased from flavorjungle. It was cloudy like that when it arrived still sealed in the plastic. I live in the northeast and it’s cold here so the if like others said it’s likely due to the cold here causing the crystallizations. Every time I mix I give it all a good shake before dispensing. I haven’t noticed any ill effects or off flavors using it. So I don’t reckon it’s gone bad. Granted, I’m not a scientist and only been mixing for the past 6 months. Just speaking from my experience thus far.
