As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
#This week, this is also where you can comment to win the Beverage-Type Flavors Pack ($70 value!) from Flavorah!

To my knowledge I have never tasted a single whiskey flavor. For sure when mixing my own, and I don't think I ever did when buying commercial juice either. How closely do some of these taste to actual whiskey?
Is it an impression of a barrel or oak notes after aging for some? Maybe sour mash overtones for others? Whiskey flavor without the added alcohol? Does the concentrate smell like a freshly opened bottle? Kind of boozy? I'm familiar with most whiskeys, specifically Bourbons. Just not the vaping variety.
Have no real desire to find out for myself. I've been in recovery several years, and vaping a whiskey seems like it might be a bad idea since we're talking about taste. I'll be running out after the real thing lol curiosity without first hand knowledge is enough for me today.
The answer to all of your second paragraph questions is yes.
And also, it's worth noting that these flavors can be triggers for some people and it's probably a very good idea for those people to avoid them. For others, they might scratch an itch if they really are missing some of the flavors they enjoyed when they weren't sober. It comes down to knowing yourself and knowing what's good for you.

It is worth mentioning that TFA Toasted Marshmallow pairs well with TFA Kentucky Bourbon. Adds a little bottom that is otherwise lacking.
Oh my god it’s yummy! Was it your Kiwi Bourbon recipe that introduced that pairing to the world?! I’m assuming you’re the same Coop?
Whiskey ain't for me, but that citrus soda is enough to get me to comment :D
I have a bourbon flavor and to be honest I am not sure how to use it. With tobaccos, perhaps? Also, is it just me or these flavors lose their alcohol sting very quickly with steeping?
Which one do you have?
Otherwise, my only experience with Whisky is from FA and I can't really stand the stuff. Used it for my Tide Pod recipe, but that's about it.
Arguably the most famous whisky recipe is Castle Long by Five Pawns. ELR has 89 Castle Long clone recipes:
https://e-liquid-recipes.com/list?q=castle+long
I've tried a couple of them so far, both interesting but neither came close. Which is everyone's favorite CL/CLR clone?
Short fort was really great. Been a long time since I mixed that one up but may have to fix that
4% TFA Brown Sugar? Not for me, thanks...and you might want to try taking the brown sugar down to around 1%, too.
I'm pretty sure the original does contain that flavor, but I don't believe it's more than 1.25% at most.
I made this for a friend a few times now and I think it‘s not bad, but I never had the original CL myself
The original is definitely toasted almond and coconut, but walnut and pistachio sounds enticing too.
Booze + nuts + a little cream is one of those flavor combos that almost always turns out tasty no matter what substitutions you make.
Are you going to touch on the following at all and directions to take it in towards the end of the episode:

Bourbon Trinity by u/ID10-T
- TFA Kentucky Bourbon
- FLV Bourbon
- VT Bourbon
Of course, but it's really for cocktail purposes only. You don't need that strong booze of VT Bourbon in a situation where something's cooked with bourbon and the alcohol has cooked off, or for things like bourbon-flavored tobaccos.
So is there a replacement for FLV&VT Bourbon+TFA Kentucky bourbon?
Yet to try a bourbon flavor yet, but a jack and coke vape I’d be into that!
Very wry humor there, Dave. You know, it's too bad we don't have many decent sour flavors. A whiskey sour could be a good simple recipe.
Also, damn that flavor pack looks great. I've heard great things about the root beer, and citrus soda sounds tasty too.
CAP Lemon Lime & INW Lemon Mix & and little FLV Sour Apple might get it done if you dialed in just the right amount of Sour Apple to get the sour from it but not so much green apple.
I've only used TPA Kentucky Bourbon, I use it when I mix up Mississippi . I think it tastes like whiskey spit for about 2-3 hits, then settles in nicely on my pallette after that. This happens every timr I set it down and come back, so it's probably just me. Hoping someone can recommend a Bourbon custard/cream type recipe for me to try (I'm about to do a new flavor order anyway), I think that would be a great use for vaping whiskey flavors.
Are you a TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream pepper taster?
I am not! I use it in a version of DIY or Die's Unicorn that's in my regular rotation and a couple others.
- 8% TFA Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
- 3% TFA Kentucky Bourbon
- 2% TFA Toasted Marshmallow
- 1% TFA Brown Sugar
Steep 3 to 4 weeks
This is a lighter, less sweet interpretation of the Castle Long theme. Easier on coils, too.
This comes across as a flavored whisky, as opposed to the whisky-flavored candy that is Castle Long.
Ingredient|% :---|---: Coconut (LA)|1.25 French Vanilla Creme (TPA)|1.50 Kentucky Bourbon (TPA)|4.50 Toasted Almond (TPA)|1.00
Flavor total: 8.25%
Remember to rate it at e-liquid-recipes.com!
I like bourbon but I've never had it in vape form. Does it actually taste similar to bourbon or is it just an okay acrid flavor? Definitely interested
I’ll toss my hat into the ring because I just got started with this so the more flavors the merrier, right? I ordered the flavors for your 1-2-3 Cranberry Sprite recipe as part of my first order because it’s one of my favorite beverages and I’m sad they ruined it for this past holiday season.
Great FOTW this week especially since you mention some recipes. Is there any good Baileys Irish Cream recipe or a trinity like Irish Cream FA + Irish Cream FLV + Whiskey VTA (and possibly a touch of Whipped Cream or Condensed Milk) or similar?
Also, hardly waiting for what you say the best Castle Long clone is (if any bourbon recipe, then this legendary one should be mentioned this week, right?).
I don't know whether there's a good Bailey's Irish Cream recipe. I don't think there's a Trinity. If there was, I think it would have VT Irish Cream in it and wouldn't have FLV or FA unless it was Irish Cream with Coffee Trinity, since both of those taste pre-loaded with coffee to me (FLV more so than FA).
Would you believe I've never tried Castle Long, which means I'm not at all qualified to say what clone is best, not even remotely. For that matter, I've never even tried something that was billed as a Castle Long clone or remix. So, I hope no one sees this long comment, assumes I answered your question, and moves on. I'd like to see it answered myself, just out of curiosity.
I really like the booze irl and in general. They’re pretty fun to mess with. Bourbon and tobacco can go together really well ofc but straight mixed drinks so good.
Please try don’t call me Shirley by u/humanpuck. My man killed it with this one.
Made this with some TPA KY Bourbon Apple of Eden
Also created this with RF Bourbon Cream which sadly i think is no longer being produced. Creamy Bourbon
And another use of Whiskey in another tobacco Banjo Music
I’ve tried mixing a few cocktail vapes with VT’s whiskys but couldn’t ever get them to point I was satisfied with.
What do people think of mixing up a sort of cakey/whiskey liquid?
yum
Not sure what I'd start with, just wanted to spark a discussion.
Bavarian Cream? Vanilla Cupcake (TPA)?
Dunno how it'd go with a cheesecake base.
I'd probably start with the base for /u/philosaphucker 's recipe
Phucker Cookies
Flavor | % ---|--- CAP Sugar Cookie | 4% INW Cactus | 1% TFA Kentucky Bourbon | 1% FA Meringue | 0.75% FW Hazelnut | 0.5% TFA Graham Cracker Clear | 1% TFA Brown Sugar | 0.5%
But take out cactus and increase the bourbon to 3% or so. Bourbon cookies sounds really good.
Can anyone give me any info on FLV Bourbon? Is it similar to VT in any way? I know it’s part of the bourbon trinity. Thanks
A recipe I really enjoyed was Winter Warmth by Djuna on ATF,
1% INW Custard
2% CAP Gingerbread
2% TFA Kentucky Bourbon
1% TFA Toasted Marshmallow
The name is pretty accurate for this recipe- it’s really nice and comforting on a cold day.
I have been on a 3 year quest to achieve an exceptional whiskey vape. Not been able to acheive what I want by itself exactly. Coconut whiskey has been my greatest success. I have made at LEAST 50 variants of it. Probably 100 at this point.
The mainstays seem to be TFA kentucky bourbon as the base of the whiskey. It is sweet and has no depth, but it gives body to the others and provides something for them to fill without getting too funky. VT scotch whiskey adds most of the complexity, but FLV bourbon is also almost as useful. Those 2, especially FLV, add a lot off hay taste initially which eventually steeps away. FA Oakwood is critical for rounding it out. Those 4 in some combination make the base. A little RY4 or tobacco or coffee help supplement depth. Other whiskeys and bourbons see some use. As does VT vodka oddly enough. It handles the boozy component well. So do some of the FW dark alcohols actually.
Then some combination of FLV sweet coconut, FLV coconut, TFA coconut extra (weird as its candy coconut), and cap or FW coconut are what I usually use to make the coconut aspect. Without it the whiskey lacks the smoothness and off notes can be too prominent.
Funnily enough I truly despise Coconut Whiskey as a beverage. It is vile, disgusting garbage. Its only use is in desert caramel sauces I swear. Yet this profile is my most dedicated work.
I accidently threw together near perfection once before work and of course being in a rush failed to record or remember what I did exactly. Maybe another 100 batches later I will have exactly what I have been trying to achieve and feel like sharing a specific recipe.
Dark alcohols are almost as hard to pull off as a good mostly dark coffee.
Hey I’ve been taking notes of the Noted shows for a while now. I find them really handy to look back on so others might too. Sorry if there are a couple of notes to myself mixed into it I wrote these not thinking other people would read them. Please ignore them! Here’s the Whiskey episode ones...
Noted Ep. 138: BOURBON, WHISKEY & IRISH CREAM (ft. Forment Life)
Irish Creams: Irish whiskey blended with cream.
LA Irish Cream: NOT SAFE TO VAPE! Not water soluble. Tastes awful- sawdust and old fryer grease. (7.09)
HS Irish Cream: Like spreading butter on a very old piece of white chocolate. Very thick, heavy, buttery cream with little vanilla. Chalky. Slight sourness on the end. Not Irish cream. (8.45)
CAP Irish Cream: Not authentic. No whiskey/ alcohol. Fluffy vanilla cream with waxy chocolate. A little chalky. (10.57)
TFA Irish Cream: Pretty good. When steeped with the lid off similar to their Kentucky Bourbon with their Bavarian Cream. If not steeped without lid has very strong alcohol note. Tested at 3% (12.55)
FLV Irish Cream: Really tasty but not authentic. Most prominent note is coffee. Better than average dark roast coffee. Chocolate milk and coffee with marshmallow. No booze. Really creamy. Complex for a SF. Good saturation. Use around 1-2%. (15.36)
FA Irish Cream:
Pretty good. Fairly authentic. Woody, boozy, whiskey type top notes. Soft, sweet cream base with a little vanilla- thick but a little dry. Touch of coffee and/or slightly bitter dark chocolate.
Use under 3%- gets harsh and chalky. 1.5% full flavoured after steeping.
(19.03)
Miscellaneous:
German Flavours Whiskey: Whiskey is bad. Whiskey with enough ethyl maltol that it actually tastes like cotton candy. Chemical off note. (22.14)
INW Whiskey: Main note is slightly rancid butter Non alcoholic whiskey flavouring. No alcoholic bite. (24.57)
INW Irish Coffee: Also has strong butter note, although less prominent than INW Whiskey and less rancid. Non alcoholic whiskey flavouring, really sweet, no booze. No coffee. Thin. (26.24)
FW Whiskey: Pretty authentic whiskey but tastes like dry dog food in the base. (27.55)
FW Fireball: Similar whiskey note to their Whiskey- same dog food off note? Really sweet, candied version of a Red Hot. No heat. Better to build from scratch, maybe using FLV Fire Cinnamon? (31.07)
FA Whiskey: Does taste like whiskey. Supposed to be scotch? A little mossy. Decent booze more but could be stronger. Earthiness that's a bit too strong. Prominent fruity sweetness- apple juice and cherry? (32.30)
Bourbons:
OOO Bourbon Whiskey: Like eating a bourbon scented crayon. Has all the elements of a good bourbon- warm, boozy, sweet, smokey. But also extremely waxy. (35.03)
MB JD Whiskey: No booziness. Odd meaty off note on top- like ground beef. Pretty sweet whiskey flavour. Top heavy, finishes weak. Tested at 3%. Steeped for 5-6 days. (35.56)
WF Bourbon: Lacks smokiness of a bourbon. More like an Irish or Canadian whiskey. Really smooth. Almost creamy mouthfeel. Very sweet and oddly thick for a liquer. Very pleasant. No off notes, besides the fact it's not a bourbon. No real alcohol bite, but bit of warmth. Use around 2%. 3% strange wood off note & astringent. (40.41)
Top Flavours of Each Category:
VT Scotch Whiskey: Really cheap scotch. Overly mossy. Not as smokey or toasty as it should be. Good alcoholic kick. Not too sweet. Not very warm, almost cool. (44.38)
PUR Tobacco Bourbon: Doesn't taste like tobacco or bourbon. Molasses or dark brown sugar with something like peanut butter with a little oak behind it. Really nice as a SF. (46.55)
VT Irish Cream: Authentic Irish cream. Actually boozy. Fairly thick, sweet cream. Very similar to FA Irish Cream, but slightly better. Slight coffee note on the finish. (48.26)
VT Bourbon: Quite thin and top heavy. Oak note, but not really charred. Sweetness is a touch fruity. But has a really great alcohol bite. Great for giving other flavours realistic booziness. (51.14)
FLV Bourbon: Lacks some sweetness of bourbon and booziness, although has some bite. Nails charred, oak barrel flavour. Has some body and depth. Not unwelcome chocolate note. (53.10)
- Make something with FLV Red Burley and FLV Bourbon?! Have same chocolate note.
TFA Kentucky Bourbon: Very versatile. Don't need to like or want bourbon to use it. Can use to warm a mix up, especially bakeries, cook fruits, as a bourbon/ whiskey. Not very authentic, which is what makes it so versatile. Authentic sweetness. A little boozy. Like bourbon that has been cooked. Really good for bourbon ice cream, where the bourbon is cooked into the base before it's frozen. Recipe- Coop's Kiwi Bourbon- TFA Toasted Marshmallow with TFA Kentucky Bourbon, classic combo. (56.25)
INW Godfather: INW says it's a whiskey and Ameretto. Pretty good. More of a brandy. Nice bit of a booziness. Cherry/ almond note and sweetness that leans towards an Ameretto. (1.00.15)
Bourbon Trinity: VT Bourbon, FLV Bourbon and TFA Kentucky Bourbon- no set %s. Compliment each other really well. Get alcohol kick from VT. Charred oak from FLV. Sweetness and warmth from TFA. Only for cocktail recipes where bourbon is the main focus- don't need the VT for something with bourbon cooked into it and FLV might not always work.
Recipes:
Irish Frapp by FuriousMixer (1.03.38)
Drunken Freedom by MaxSavage (1.10.18)
Screaming Bailey by Nickevz (1.11.58)
*Creamy Bourbon by Ebc88 (1.17.49) - everything blends together really well. There's no flavour that sticks out above the rest. Even with FA Maple at 0.75% and a weeks steep (Maple gets stronger over time). Not very bourbon-y. (make this recipe)
Don't Call Me Shirley by humanpuck (1.20.17) - Ginger ale with whiskey and cherries. Impressive recipe.
*Zippy's Moment by VapinTrucker (1.26.05) - chocolate pudding with bourbon. ID10-T's favourite recipe of this week. Really thick, creamy and smooth, authentic chocolate pudding. Can taste whiskey all the way through. Gives depth. The WF Bourbon has an oddly thick, creamy feel but it works well here. VT sits right on top without interfering with anything else. Yummy. (make this recipe)
Fireside by Kopel - great recipe
Southerner by Kopel - a serious tobacco with TFA Kentucky Bourbon (make this recipe)
Irish Connection by nks - uses FLV Irish Cream in a tobacco very effectively
Burley Boys by Cokecan - FLV Bourbon and TFA Kentucky Bourbon with bananas and tobacco.
Stag Night by Wh1skeyk1ng (1.31.19) - TFA Kentucky Bourbon with RY4 and nuts. (mix this recipe- need FA Brandy)
Might I request to add Florals to this the future FOTW thread?
I think we've done Florals twice before - but it's been awhile and there are new flavors out and there's no reason not to do them again. However, I'm trying to narrow the focus here - so is there any particular type of floral you're especially interested in?
As of late I’ve seen a few “marijuana” profile type flavors made by a few brands. I’ve also seen Elderflower used in a ton of florals since I began mixing, so something along those lines. Maybe specifically florals that pair well with fruits, and florals that don’t pair well with fruits. I dunno, just some ideas.
Elderflower could certainly be an FOTW, it was part of previous florals but hasn't got it's own week yet.
I'm adding that and marijuana now. What flavors have you heard of besides FA Reggae Nights, TFA Mary Jane, and Tasty Puff Sweet Leaf?
For earlier FOTW you/we always those tables with all the flavours fitting the post and links to their SFTs.
Am I too early to check or aren't those posted anymore?
/u/OdieDoodah does that as soon as he gets around to it. I posted FOTW earlier in the day today than I usually do.
yeah - MUCH earlier than usual (grin)
to u/merze1 - I don't post the full tables anymore - they took up a lot of real estate. Now I just post a link to the same info on the Flavor Facts Spreadsheet.
Just commenting to enter the giveaway, keep scrolling.
Someone downvoted you so I'm here to fix that, and now I too will keep scrolling.
These whiskey/bourbon type of flavours and the tobacco kinds are still a bit scary for me. I'm probably going to get my feet wet with baccos with a next order. The drinks will have to wait.
So, just commenting here to enter the draw ;-)
I tried the Atmos Labs 18 Year Old Whiskey a while back. The smell of the concentrate was very pleasant, not too far off a lower midrange single malt.
At 4% (Recommended 5%) it almost made me gag, wanting to throw up and gave me a stinging headache after just a couple of puffs.
Took me a couple of weeks to be able to enjoy drinking the genuine article again.
Does anyone have a realistic recipe for a Kahlua & Milk?
I don't know of one but I think it would definitely involve VT Coffee Liqueur and lots of it. Hell probably just Coffee Liqueur 8% and FA Milk 2% would get that done.
