Newbie about to start my first mix!
submitted over 5 years ago by Connor_311

Hi guys,

As the title says, I'm brand new to mixing but I've been vaping for around 5 years. Reason for mixing is the premiums I love cost around £18 per 100ml and I easily go through 3 per month so its draining me financially.

I found out that the company I buy from (Fusion Haze) do concentrates of my favourite flavour so I've ordered everything I need to start and a bottle of the concentrate which costs half of what youd pay for 1 bottle and I can make 2 bottles out of the concentrate.

Just wondering does anyone have any experience with this companies concentrates and if so, how long should I steep for on a fruity/menthol flavour?

All help is greatly appreciated!

If you are ordering from the company, it's gonna be easier to just get the info from them. Fruits generally don't require steeping more than a day, if at all.

Sweet, so do I just email them looking for info?

That's what I would do.

Not familiar with that company (I'm on the other side of the big pond), but if you follow the instructions provided with the concentrate you should end up with an exact replica of the finished juice you've been buying from them. If that's what you like, great!

Does it usually come with instructions then?

It really depends on the company. I'd wait and see. Most one shots should have some instructions on them for best results, but sometimes they don't. If the instructions aren't satisfactory, just post a picture of them here (or better yet, on the /r/DIY_eJuice discord) and we can help you decipher them.

When it comes to steep times, I've found that with fruits, there is no discernible difference between a 12 hour steep, a 24 hour steep, or a 72 hour steep. However, I have noticed a difference in "sharpness" between 0 and 12 hours. I would let it steep overnight at the least, then try it.

You can vape it right after mixing if you're out of juice or something, but I'd recommend a 12 hour steep if you can swing. At least wait for all the bubbles to clear after shaking thoroughly.

The only instructions that come with oneshots is usually a percentage range at which to mix it (for example 8-12% or a fixed percentage 10%. I assume you also bought VG, perhaps PG (depending on your device and preferred ratio) as well as nicotine (if you use it).

Yes it says 15% on the bottle I have also bought 1 litre of VG and 500ml of PG and stocked up on nic salt shots

If it says 15% its probably good at 10% or lower. I'm UK and I diy, most recipes I use are max 6-8% total.

In that case would 15% be too much?? Or would 10% be too little?? I'm just wondering because it's a one shot

Is this a one shot or are there several flavor concentrates? If there are several, we could look at them to determine an approximate steep time. If it's a one shot, a description of the flavor might help. But I would try to get the information from the manufacturer first and if you don't happen to get a response from them, then try to figure it out using either the individual flavors or flavor description.

Yes it's a one shot, it's called dragons blood and the only thing I can think that it tastes like is y'know the strawberry mint flavour Wrigleys Extras.

I absolutely love it but they're secretive with the flavours so the description is something like " a berry blend with a cool whip on the tail"

Fruits are fine with no steep but the "cool whip on the tail" is going to be some type of cream. Creams can vary alot with steep times depending on which cream it is. Some are good at 3 days, some are good at 2 weeks. If they happen to use TFA Whipped Cream, for example, the steep time on that one is 5 days. You could mix it up and let it steep and just do a taste test every day until it gets to the point that you are looking for.

Their description is: Fusion Haze Dragons blood is a fruity red berry blend with a touch of coolness to freshen the pallet. From that description I would guess that it probably doesn't require any steep time. It could be a pretty simple recipe that might be easy to clone. Could be as simple as TFA Strawberry + TFA Dragonfruit + WS-23. Or it could use a bunch of different berries, in which case a clone would be more difficult.

My rule of mixing is mix it taste it... If you can vape it when it's just mixed then keep vaping it... If it changes and gets better then you will know and can mix in advance for next time... I vape everything fresh even custards but after a week or 2 they do get better and I know this because I have vaped it from day 1 then I just mix more knowing it has to be left for 2 weeks for best taste

I like your rule.

What device are you using? This is an important factor

I'm using a vaporesso revenger with a kensei rta

I would use a 70/30 VG / PG ratio for Max flavor cloud ratio. Start with low percentages a flavoring and work your way up. Some flavors such as Fuji apple are super good with 0 steep time. Other flavors such as strawberry would need a higher PG ratio and at least a few days steep time to shine. I would also recommend trying a mix with zero sweetener first. Sometimes flavors are inherently sweet and anything extra can mute it. Also remember that simpler mixes with fewer flavor combinations tend to steep up better. Happy mixing friend!

I've been making my own for 3 years or so. I get all my stuff from Nicotine River. If you're just getting started, they have a sweet diy starter kit for $50 with everything you need to get going. They're reliable and provide excellent quality ingredients. Also, try the E-Liquid Recipes android app. It's a calculator and there's thousands of crowd sourced recipes.

Nic River is awesome but I'd skip the kit and buy everything separately

To tag onto Edible's post - menthol isn't really a steep-necessary concentrate either. Definitely sound advice to talk with the company, and to use the "start low" rule...SOooo much easier to add to, then it is to "take away" when concocting flavor profiles.

Another place to look is reviews for the product at the manufacturers site and any vendors that carry it.
