About flavor %
submitted over 5 years ago by MattDeezly

So I work at a vape shop and we do 20% flavoring for every juice... I started diying at home. Grabbed my favorite flavor, rootbeer (tfa) and did 16% and it taste good but it's too much, where it kind of makes me sick (like too decadent).... is 16-20% high? I've read many recipes are 5% or less..... the juice at my shop does not taste this powerful at 20%. Do I really need to tone down my flavor %'s for mixing with the concentraits from TFA, CAP, etc?

Oh dear. Yeah that's too high. The 20% refers to total flavor percentage. Not of a single flavor.

What would you suggest for single flavor

The flavor you have will have a recommended % written on it often.

20% is a total for multiple flavors. You can also buy premixed flavorings (one shot flavors) those often require 10/20% flavoring

My favorite one shot is a blue skushpuppy and only requires 10%.

You can search for the specific flavors you have on alltheflavors and it'll give you the average percentage used in recipes for each one. You can start there as a ballpark number

The highest I go is 10% total and that is even too much for some flavors.

There isn't a start % that will work with all flavours. My adv is currently around 1%

There are two flavors I can think of that I would use that can be used over 10% and not be horrid. And oneshots (basically a number of different flavor concentrates mixed together like in a recipe) can call for anything from 5-20%. And manufacturer recommendations are often wildly overinflated. Even when flavors were designed for vaping, often the numbers were based on using eGo type gear. Check flavor reviews here, or maybe look at usage numbers from ATF. Or, iff you have and still mainly use a eGo, look at the usage numbers from ELR.

I would definitely look up single flavors on ATF or ELR and start by using the average %. It is true that most manufacturers suggest a %, but imho it‘s often too high and much higher than the average used %. I would start low and taste it (vape) and add little by little if needed, tasting after every addition of flavoring.

Honestly bud everybody is different you should mix 1 flavor at 5% and let it sit overnight then test it in the morning. If its too light of flavor increase a couple percent and try it again.

Check with either your concentrate supplier, or with the manufacturer, for mixing recommendations for each flavor. There is no set rule on one % of each or total flavor in a mix.

How would I check, is there a resource or via email?

Websites. Every supplier I deal with includes this information on every product page. I don't know about every manufacturer, but Capella and The Perfumers Apprentice include this information on their product pages.

Or you can look up most flavors on alltheflavors dot com and look at how mixers use each flavor.

I make eliquid for about 10 friends, have been for about 4 years now and have always used 10% or 5 ml for single flavours making 50 ml bottles, they have never wanted me to add more flavour they all say it's bang on. If it's multi flavour then always less % each flavour. Some say most flavours suffer a negative effect if % is too high and work better at lower %.

Also, 5-12% depending on taste.

As an addition to other flavors 3-8%

Work your way up: (Stand alone)

10 ML, start with 0.5 ML 30 ML, start with 1.5 ML
