I'm back with another Ice Cream ;)

This was one I put together for mixers club. Long story short, it started off as a Coconut Honeysuckle Rice which failed and I turned it into this! I've really enjoyed it as have the few folks who tested it so far.

Red Death (POD)

Co. | Flavor | %
---|---|----
INW | Anise | 1%
FA | Anise | 3%
CAP | Sweet Currant | 10%
FA | Raspberry | 4%
INW | Rhubarb | 1%
| WS-23 30% | 1%

Red fruit and anise, designed for restricted airflow and high nicotine pod systems. Tested using the Caliburn, at up to 25mg salts.

You probably shouldn't try this in a subtank or rda.

"There was much of the beautiful, much of the wanton, much of the bizarre, something of the terrible, and not a little of that which might have excited disgust."

This recipe obviously owes a great deal to the Chef's flavors "With Envy" line as well as the whole euro heisenberg / astaire genre of fruits with anise and cooling. I've been lightly consumed with remaking those kinds of profiles without leaning so heavily on sweetener / artificial colors / grotesque amounts of cooling.

Really, it's a pretty simple recipe. It has about 3 salient components:

The Red Fruit

Fruits in pod systems are maddening. They either kind of just work or they don't. The percentages can get a bit obscene when compared to a more standard rda / subtank recipe.

This works, and the percentages are obscene. CAP Sweet Currant is a big, bright, funky, and sweet red currant flavor and it's cranked way the hell up to actually stand up in the mix. It's also robustly sweet, which obviates at least some of my desire to throw in extra sweetener and burn through disposable pods. The sweet currant is definitely present at 10%, but it's a bit low and "bassy" without adding too much in the way of higher, lively notes.

That is where the FA Raspberry and the INW Rhubarb come in. In a pod, the 4% FA Raspberry avoids getting too sharp and floral, while still perking up that deeper currant. The 1% INW Rhubarb is kind of heavy handed, but it gives a nice tartness to underlying red fruit flavor.

The overall "red fruit" flavor is distinctly "red" while still being tart and sweet enough to really show up in a pod.

The Anise

Ah anise, the great appeal limiter. Hallowed be thy name. I like anise as a counterpoint to bright fruit flavors, especially with cooling. This recipe uses two kinds of anise with distinctly different purposes. The INW Anise is a bit earthy and kind of bitter. It has a bit of that licorice-ish bite, but at 1% it's really being used here to give a dirtier counterpoint to pop the fruit in this recipe. The FA Anise is smooth and much more of a pernod/absinthe kind of vibe. It's there to round out a full anise profile at 3%. These percentages work fairly well for me in a pod.

The Cooling

I mean, it's obvious that we are going to be using WS-23 here. I've used 1% of a 30% WS-23 Solution to give something between a touch and a sledgehammer worth of cooling. The cooling knocks off the dirtier, aggressive edges of the anise and the cloying sweetness of the red fruit. I've found that WS-23 doesn't really need to be jacked up for pods like normal flavors, so it's still somewhat reasonable. I've mixed batches of this recipe up with 2% WS-23 and enjoyed it, but I feel like 1% hollows out the red fruit here a lot less. It's DIY though, you do you. You want to mix at 2 or 3%? I can't legally stop you. At least not yet.

That is pretty much it. I suppose you could add sweetener if you wanted, but I think this fairly sweet for a fruit-based pod flavor and I like not toasting my pods. As it stands, I'm getting 20ish ml per caliburn pod at 50/50 vg/pg without much drama. I don't think I've ever shared a pod recipe before, namely because they all end up so profoundly boring. I figured that was probably okay after burning through about 75ml of it in regular rotation.

"...and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all."

Have you tried this in the uwell caliburn? I bet you this is amazing in that as I can typically taste all my fruit salts quite well in that. Using a straight mango guava from FW with no sweetener atm and after steeping a bit it could still maybe use a touch of cap super sweet (awaiting shipment) but all in all still very tolerable. I will certainly be trying this recipe once I have all the flavorings necessar.

Yeah, It was entirely developed in a caliburn. I actually haven't tried it in anything else. I mix at 50/50 vg/pg and use 25mg liquid barn salts.

Yea I just mixed using 50/50 36mg base mix from NLW and used a mango guava from FW at 20% it came out good but needs some sweetner

drag the waters

INW Dragonfruit 1.25%

WF Sour Watermelon Candy 4.25%

TFA Watermelon Candy 1%

CAP Strawberry Taffy 1.5%

INW Shisha Strawberry 0.40%

75/25, shake n vape (~12 hr steep brings it together)

This is my 4th version of this mix and IMO the best one to date. When I started on this I wanted a straight up watermelon candy with some bright accents and body to it. Looking at my stash I wanted to put the INW dragonfruit to use and figured its slightly citrusy flavor would work with watermelon. I kind of lucked into the opening ratio of sour watermelon/watermelon candy/dragonfruit and took it from there.

First iteration included FLV berry blend cause I love that stuff but it wasnt pushing the way I wanted in my mix. Second version used WF strawberry gummy candy @ 2% and was pretty decent. Nice all around flavor but I wanted something else in there. 3rd try took out the gummy candy and subbed in the strawberry taffy also at 2% and we were in business. This was the kinda candy "weight" I was looking for. To be fair I never sft'd the taffy but once it was introduced I felt like it was really bringing everything together.

I was really reaching on how to put the final touch on this because while good it was coming up just short. Looking through my flavors and notes I was kind of at a loss at which direction to go. Almost went with a blueberry or raspberry but I was thinking it would jumble everything together as I was trying to keep the flavors somewhat linear. It was like one of those hidden in plain sight moments- I absolutely love shisha strawberry and it carries a candyish/gummy edge. Not wanting to overpower anything I used this one low and got that faint final note I was looking for.

As for the name, later on during the night I finished this I was listening to Pantera (showing my age) and the 4th or 5th song that came on was Drag the Waters. Heard the opening notes and thanked Dime for allowing me to name this something other than 'watermelon dragonfruit'.

Mix this up and let me know what you think!

This recipe looks good. Thank you for the detailed notes. I love to use Rhubarb with red candies, but INW Dragon Fruit looks like a nice change.

Never thought to use rhubarb as I dont own any, is there one you would recommend?

1 points

by Alb3rtixover 5 years ago

Yes, in fact two of them. First INW Rhubarb is excellent, almost raw rhubarb and must be used very low. I recommend to start at 0.25%-0.50%. Second VT Rhubarb Compote that is more forgiving and tastes almost cooked with syrup. I like to use a mix of both, 0.3% INW and 2% VT, specially with red jammy/candy/syrupy berries.

Guacamole V2

Ingredient|% :---|---: Avocado (Flavorah)|3.25 Basil (Flavorah)|0.75 Cucumber (TPA)|1.00 Leafy Tobacco (Flavor Revolution)|0.50 Lime (CAP)|1.00 Lime Tahity (Cold Pressed) (FA)|1.25 Saline (1.8% solution)|0.66

Flavor total: 8.41%

Remember to rate it at e-liquid-recipes.com!

Notes

Not really guacamole, this is the result of my attempts to showcase the unique properties of FLV Avocado in a savory recipe. It is incredibly delicious and intriguing, thanks to the interplay of sweet vs. salty and juicy vs. creamy.

In order to achieve the desired saltiness, it is essential to mix up some 1.8% Saline. Substituting double the amount of 0.9% saline will not achieve the same result.

The small amount of FR Leafy Tobacco works really well to lend some earthy notes to the avocado, and does not come through as an identifiable tobacco flavor. If you do not have FR Leafy Tobacco, any mild earthy tobacco flavor should work.

For best results, add only 1% of the FA Lime Tahity CP to the initial mix and add the remaining 0.25% after steeping (it fades rather quickly.)

#Fruit Medley Ice I haven't really come up with a name for it.

Co. | Flavor | % | Notes ---|---|----|---- TFA | Strawberry | 3% | Because I am a slave to strawberry. FA | Strawberry | 3% | See above. LA | Bubble Gum | 3% | Gives me a little something extra on the exhale. LA | Lemonade | 2% | 4% was too much for me, and made the whole thing taste like a lemon head. 2% feels like it serves as a secondary flavor, blending nicely and balancing some of the sharpness from the different fruit. FA | Forest Fruit | 2% | I like the other berries to back up the strawberry. TFA | Cotton Candy | 1% | I wanted a little sweetness without going overboard. This is my only sweetener at the moment. FA | Arctic Winter | 1.5% | I wanted some menthol and cooling. This is my first and only menthol at the moment.
FA | Polar Blast | 1% | To back up the Arctic winter, and add cooling without adding more menthol.

#Backstory
I accidentally came to this mix. I was trying to clone a retail juice. This didn't end up being a clone of that juice at all, and became something I enjoy so much more. The retail juice is a kiwi strawberry bubble gum flavor (Farley's Gnarly Sauce, iced out version).

I tried to use the kiwi that I had, TFA Kiwi Double. I hated it. But, like a fool I mixed up 60ml of the first attempt. I ended up diluting it with a mix I already had plenty of. That ugly mix of the clone attempt and my current ADV, inspired the above, which I think is going to become my new ADV. I subsequently tried to modify the clone, using different percentages of Kiwi Double. It was all bad. I think I might just not have a liking for Kiwi Double. Either way, it led me to this.

Currently mixing at 80/20.

#Che Guava % | Co. | Flavor ----|-----|---------------------- 1.5 | SA | Cerise Griotte
0.5 | VT | Fizzy Sherbet
3 | CAP | Golden Pineapple
1 | CAP | Hibiscus
.5 | TFA | Honeysuckle
.4 | FA | Pear
2.25 | FLV | Pink Guava 0.3 | FA | Polar Blast
0.3 | WS | -23

Ok, so time for the notes. A little insight... I was looking at my bottle of pink guava one evening after having a few interesting beverages, and got to thinking that I needed to craft a recipe with it as the star. So it obviously needed a name and for some reason "Che Guava" sounded like it would be a good choice. So based on that name, several associations come to mind - southern/tropical, terrorist thug, and of course 'che' is the start of one of the greatest fruits to ever exist, cherry. (Also one of the best sports commentators ever, but that's for another recipe.) So I figured ok, I want a tropical blend, where the guava bullies/terrorizes the other flavors a bit, and I want some cherry in there. So it started out as a basoc blend of Pink Guava, Golden Pineapple, and Cherry Extract... But it wasn't quite what I wanted. So I started looking for some supporting players. I wanted juicier, and while normally I'd go cactus for that, I decided to try something a little less flavorful and went with the old-school FA Pear. Not enough to taste, just enough to add some wet. And I threw in TFA Honeysuckle because that's my Frank's...I put that shit in everything. It adds a nice sweetness to any fruit and let's face it both golden pineapple and pink guava could stand some of that. But it still wasn't right. The flavors weren't coming together properly, they would each dight for attention rather than being a team. So I went with another of my workhorses - CAP hibiscus. That gave the mix more tropical vibes, and it blended the flavors without adding that TFA dragonfruit offtaste. Then, because I was going for a tropical beverage type vibe, VT Fizzy Sherbet followed by the cooling exacta (FA Polar Blast+WS-23) seemed a natural choice. Along the way, I switched cherries a couple times. I was about ready to release the recipe when it was using GL Cherry, but when the FotW was cherry and I dug out the SA Cerise Griotte it occurred to me that it could do a better nob in this mix, being a little stronger. So I held off the release until I could test the most recent version. And whoa... After about five full days, it transforms itself into another one of those fruity delights. So I'm pretty happy with this.
I get that maybe two people other than me are likely to have all the ingredients for this... Most likely the cherry will be the key missing ingredient. A mix of Cherry Extract and FA Amaretto may get close. Swapping in 5% GL Cherry will work well enough. FA Marzipan and INW Cherries might work...but really, get cerise griotte. It's worth it.

1-2-3 Apple Mango

|Co.|Flavour|%| |:-|:-|:-| |FA|Fuji|3| |FLV|Mango|2| |FA|Pear|1|

"The inspiration for this one came from trying an Apple and Mango juice I’d picked up from a supermarket. It was the first time trying the Apple/Mango pairing and I can say for sure that it’s not the last time. They go so well together.

FA Fuji and FLV Mango were no-brainers for me. They are two of my favourite concentrates. Very authentic tasting! I used FA Pear to sweeten and juice up the mix a little more. It’s such a light flavour, that it doesn't take away from the goal profile, but supports it. Sweetener and coolant to taste, if desired.

It’s another simple 1-2-3 recipe and I hope you enjoy it."

"No. 11"

Co. | Flavor | %

---|---|----

INW | Am4A | 3%

TPA | Apricot | 5%

FA | Oak Wood | 1%

TPA | Strawberry (ripe) | 3%

Notes:

This is my 2nd recipe posted here, both featuring INW Am4A. No. 11 is a dark, fruity, mysterious night time vape. It's not a tobacco vape, despite having a tobacco flavor. It's aromatic, spicy, and has a lot of depth on the back of the tongue. This is meant as a MTL, which I vape at 30/70 (PG/VG) on a Kayfun Prime 2019 at 22 watts (.7 ohm). This is definitely an ADV for me.

Am4A (INW) - What I love about Am4A is that it enhances flavors and tastes different depending on what you mix it with. In this recipe, it's not used as a tobacco. It's used to bring out the strength of the apricot and strawberry. It has a little bit of a darker cherry flavor which I think goes well with the Oak Wood (see below)

Apricot (TPA) - This is a great apricot flavor. Not too juicy but not dry. It's not bright...it's kind of a dark flavor. I've tried this with various peach flavors, but I find apricot is the best.

Oak Wood (FA) - Gives the recipe a dark, woody flavor. It works really well with the Apricot and it takes Am4A to another level. It kind of reminds me of how cedar smells, but in vape form and not quite as bright. It's really good but you have to be careful with it.

Strawberry ripe (TPA) - One of my favorite strawberries and it brightens up the recipe, giving a bit of lift where the Oak Wood and Am4A are dark.

Glad to find this again anyway =) Will make it up asap.

Green Mango Gazpacho

After 31 iterations, I'm really quite proud of this one. You might look at the ingredients I used and think dumpster juice, but no: You really just have to mix it to see how a bunch of flavors that are generally regarded as weird come together to create something beautifully balanced.

I originally set out to make a Green Mango Chutney, but that wasn't meant to be. What I ended up with instead is more reminiscent of a Gazpacho with green mango substituted for the tomato.

Ingredient|% :---|---: Chili Mango (TPA)|4.00 Cucumber (Flavorah)|0.40 Fresh Coconut (Purilum)|1.00 Ginger (Flavorah)|0.50 Lemon Grass (Flavorah)|0.40 Saline (1.8% solution)|0.25 Taro (FE)|0.50

Keep in mind, at first I was trying to make a chutney. After giving up on that, I took a few steps back and took it in a different direction. 31 iterations in total, and only a single flavor shared between all of them.

FE Taro definitely is the weirdest flavor I've worked with so far. Mix it with the wrong mango, and it inexplicably tastes like creamed corn. So now I'm all set for April Fool's Day, as I know exactly how to mix a realistic baby puke flavor...

LA |Lemonade |3%

FA |Fuji Apple |2.5%

HC |Lemon |1.5%

FE(SC) |Lemon |1.5%

Name was something random since that’s what I typically do for names. Dave hooked it up with some HC Lemon, since I’d seen a few say it was the “grail” of lemons I had to try to get some. Unfortunately it was OOS everywhere I looked, so I realize this may not be something everyone could mix up. My only recommendation to that would be up the LA Lemonade, and potentially another lemon like FA Lemon Sicily or INW Lemon Mix. Do keep in mind it will be different than original of course.

Hot damn though, throwing Fuji Apple at that lemonade/lemon combo is DELICIOUS! It was something totally random and I really wasn’t sure how it what turn out in vape. I ate apple slices that had lemon juice on them most of my childhood, and this recipe tastes like just that, in drink form. At some point I’ll get around to adding Country Apple and a bit of FA Pear in this mix, and seeing how it tastes. For now however, I am suffice.

80/20 is what I usually mix at. SNV, I add .25 of SS & WS23, but that’s just my preference.
