'What are you vaping?' Thread - Week of January 27, 2020
submitted over 5 years ago by c5b4c91772c729fc7d0a

This thread is for you to share what you are vaping lately, be it your own or another mixers recipe. Maybe you happened to stumble upon your new ADV in the January Recipes Thread? Or did someone recommend your first mix to you in the Suggest a recipe for my flavors Thread

Share what you liked or didn't like too much, but most importantly, please make sure to properly link to the recipe and to the mixer if they're on reddit.

If you need some inspiration, some websites keep track of your mixes and batches: e-Liquid Recipes and All The Flavors.

Also make sure to checkout last week's thread for inspiration or to follow up on a mix that turned out even better after a week of steeping! We keep an archive of all the past threads in our wiki as well

Happy Vaping!

by juthincover 5 years agoI improved Grack and all I got was this lousy flair

Mostly finishing off some testers I'd made a while back. Che Guava is probably gonna get maybe one revision before release. Blossomjack is gonna get posted as a bonus recipe in the FotW because it's just ok. And there's some oddball recipe I did with a lotus-heavy blend at the same time that's kinda meh. It seems better with a longer steep, but I think Lotus is probably a subpercenter.

Been messing with some 1-2-3 mixes while I’m waiting for my ice creams to steep:

1% TPA Sour

2% TPA Pear Candy

3% TPA Pomegranate

This one might be better with 3% pear candy and 2% pomegranate.

And

1% INW Raspberry

2% TPA Sweet Tangerine

3% INW Grapefruit

This one is good, but you could probably put the Grapefruit at 4%

The first one sounds nice, and I've been looking for good uses for my Pear Candy. What would you recommend as a sub for Pomegranate or what seems like it might work with the other two, theoretically?

2 points

by syrik420over 5 years ago

I like the first one because I can really taste the pear candy, so I use a weak flavor for the 3%. I’m not sure if the flavor is just weak or if I have a hard time tasting it, but that Pom is a weak flavor for me. I’d say any other weak but sweet fruit flavor: Cap Sweet Mango or 3% FA Fuji come to mind. I don’t have a huge flavor stash yet though, so any sweet fruit that doesn’t cut out the other flavors works well.

Ninja Edit: also, strong fruit flavors kill the Sour for me. The Sour comes through as almost the most dominate for me. I’ve vapes a lot of those fruits though, so it could just be me noticing the difference with sour.

CAP Sweet Mango at 3% and FA Fuji are super strong flavours to me, and they stick out. I can tell they’re in a mix instantly. Isn’t it weird how subjective taste is.

Mixing up a few things at the moment. I call this Very Berry but it is no way an attempt at a naked clone, just liked the name. WS23 is welcome in this mix, SNV.

.5% Lemon (HC) (could be swapped with Fe Lemon or FA Lemon Sicily)

1% Fuji Apple (FA)

2% Shisha Strawberry (INW)

2% Boysenberry (FLV)

3% Red Touch (FA)

3% Blueberry (FW)

I’m always toying with 123 recipes, this one was a bit odd but pretty tasty. I call it Tropic Thunder, this was pretty decent, could use some refinement imho.

1% Passionfruit (WF)

2% Fizzy Sherbet (VT)

3% Jackfruit (TFA)

This is something I’m going to mix up later, after watching the new Noted episode Monday night. I could probably name this PP or something immature, but I’ll settle on Papeach in the meantime. Another 123 SNV, I’ll edit post in future with my results on this one.

1% Apricot (Fa)

2% Papaya (WF)

3% White Peach (FA) (May swap this one out with HS Peach, I’d imagine JF Honey Peach would great in here as well)

Definitely going to try that very berry next time I order flavors :)

One of my favorite profiles, I generally always have a berry ADV in my rotation! I need to get a solid blackberry to add to the mix, but otherwise this is pretty tasty!

by jasone414over 5 years ago

I'd have to agree with Gunkster. The berry sounds really good. I definitely want to try it. FLV Boysenberry and FW Blueberry are two of my favorites!

by lordefinesseover 5 years ago

Cheers! I love the combo of boysenberry and fw blueberry. I throw about 2% of it at the blueberry Trinity with some WS23 quite frequently.

2 points

by jasone414over 5 years ago

Thanks, good idea! I get some weird grape notes from Bilberry, even at the low percentage that it's used in the Trinity. Adding Boysenberry might cover that up for me.

Whoa whoa whoa. What’s the blueberry trinity? This sounds like something I neeed to mix.

A beautiful and clever cigar recipe by /u/ChemicalBurnVictim

Strawberry Blondie

It’s such a clever blending of flavours and a great recipe because you’ll end up with versatile concentrates. INW TA Cuban Cigar could be hard to source in some parts of the world, but it’s a good chance to pick up INW Classic for Pipe Black while you’re at it.

Furthermore, you’ll get three recipes for the price of one!

*Variant 1*

FLV Kentucky and Native are a great pair, and I do enjoy them as a SnV on their own at 3% total. I encourage you to play around with the percentages and bend the mix to be either more moist or drier and a tiny bit more ashy. Have fun!

*Variant 2*

Just mix the recipe and leave out the INW Shisha Strawberry as suggested by CBV. I’m not a fan of FLV Red Burley as it can give me a malty and sour off note, but here it just sits perfectly in the background. It’s a nice, pleasant well rounded cigar vape without being too heavy nor dry. I‘m not getting any dairy nor distinct honey notes, just that pleasant Umami flavour from the FLV Milk and Honey. So goooooooood.

*Variant 3*

Mix the whole recipe. That INW Shisha Strawberry gets bend to fit the tobaccos by the Red Burley so, so, so beautifully. It’s not too fruity, neither too dark nor sweet. Its just right. Such a pleasant and fulfilling vape.

For variant 2 and 3, there’s no substitute for TA Cuban Cigar i know of, so do go the extra mile to source it, Black for Pipe and maybe even INW Dnb and treat yourself to Brigade as well.

Honey Them Pears. It's an older recipe, but the flavor checks out.

I'd been playing around with the "Search by Flavor Stash" feature, looking for ways to use up the big bottles of Fuji and Pear Candy I find myself with and I came across this. It struck me as an interesting combination, and as it approached the seven day mark I juiced up and dove in.

It's bright and fruity (as you probably guessed). The pear and the apple have a contentious but loving relationship, the strawberries share the flat with them but don't make as much noise, and the honeydew is peeking in the window with a big bouquet of honeysuckle.

I'm eager to dissect the bits of this and see what else I can do with it, but this is delicious.

I'm just trying out some Cookie adv by Kau_barros. He says it can be an SNV but I let it steep the full 12 days and it's delicious, check it out!

I will check this out. I’ve only been mixing for like 6 months but I haven’t branched out of candy and fruit flavors. This looks bomb thanks!

by mkweiseover 5 years agoMissing One Flavor

I mixed up some Andre's Mate (Bowden's Mate clone) a month ago, and have been tasting it periodically, but lately it doesn't seem to be changing any more with further steeping. This is a highly rated clone recipe on both ELR and ATF, with several comments praising how close to the original it is.

The thing is, it doesn't taste very similar to Bowden's Mate to me at all. Don't know if my palate is different from everyone else's, or it just needs to steep longer...

The original has some faint dairy notes hiding behind the cocoa, just perceptible enough to add a little body. The clone, to me, is so heavy with custard that I really have to look for the chocolate to find it.

Has anyone else tried both the clone and the original?

1 points

by jasone414over 5 years ago

I'm not familiar with either of those, but I have found that JF Milk Chocolate is really weak. I've used it in a few recipes and haven't really been able to taste it in any of them.

1 points

by mkweiseover 5 years agoMissing One Flavor

I actually bought JF Milk Chocolate specifically to mix this recipe, and haven't done much else with it. I did do a quick SFT, and found that it completely lacks the aggressive cocoa chalk found in most chocolates. I wouldn't exactly call it weak, but it is closer to some of the White Chocolate flavors I've tried than to DCC or Glamour Chocolate.

I wouldn't say that it's the wrong chocolate for a Bowden's Mate clone, though adding a few drops of a more assertive chocolate might help. What does seem wrong to me is all that custard.

1 points

by jasone414over 5 years ago

Could be. I didn't get around to doing a SFT on it yet and I haven't tried any white chocolates yet. JF is the first chocolate that I've got but I got it to try Wayne's Chocolate Milkshakes and I can't taste it in there at 2%.

I’ve got Watermelon Jelly Rancher by Chrisdvr1 on ATF. Super fucking good after a few days. The recommended steep time is 14 days.

2% CAP Jelly candy

.25% FA Lemon Sicily

.75% CAP Super Sweet

5% La Watermelon

I waited three days to start vaping this and holy guacamole is it good. The jelly candy really makes the watermelon stick all over your tongue and lips. With the super sweet it gives what I think is a great sugar lips without being overbearing. The I have never used LA watermelon before so I can’t attest to how the lemon Sicily makes it pop but I sure love it. Mix it up if you like watermelon candies! I also added some Ws-23

Mixing this tonight for sure

by optimal-primusover 5 years ago

Mixed this up and gave it 2 days to settle, firstly it’s a great vape , lovely jolly rancher style candy flavour, not overwhelming at all at these percentages, may try upping the watermelon and the jelly candy or even adding WF sour watermelon candy for a more saturated flavour but that’s more for my destroyed palate than this necessarily needing it. Really enjoying it as is though . Great mix

Tarte au citron (chefs one shots) THE BEST E-liquid I’ve vaped in all my 8 years of vaping. Some how they mixed a seriously blown out super sweet lemon that honestly sparkles (if u know what I mean) with a back note of shortbread crust off the shake, 2 weeks later and the lemon has mellowed slightly and the bakery comes forward more

Posh (fear one shot from chefs) I do love this but to me it is the lightest tobacco flavour I’ve ever tried(atleast I think it’s supposed to be a tobacco vape) I get a very light chocolate flavour which is the closest thing I have vaped to a British chocolate flavour, I don’t know if this was the intention when developing the recipe but for me it’s certainly there

Lime drink (max savage recipe) simple mix with great flavour, yogurt drink is such a good single flavour that carries this recipe , the lime brightens up the top note an the finish is a great semi sour/sweet effect

Edit: just checked and posh is supposedly a rich decadent custard with dark tobacco?? I get a really light milk chocolate which says a lot about the subjectivity of taste

1 points

by TheDudeWatchesover 5 years ago

Interesting, though I believe Posh got discontinued.

I got the Woodhaven One Shot, also by Fear, and while I enjoy the flavour profile enough to have just ordered another 30 ml, it’s very very light on the tobacco side as well. I double checked with Chef’s, but they assured me it’s exactly how it’s supposed to be.

1 points

by optimal-primusover 5 years ago

Yes I thought it has been discontinued as I bought Posh and Woodhaven from chefs sale section a few months ago , both are quite mild flavours which isn’t a bad thing and the mixing percentages are great ,I have no doubt chefs are correct as I’m from wales so I’m lucky enough to have the premier concentrate suppliers on my doorstep and they haven’t missed a step in the 4-5 years I’ve been using chefs. I really hope Fear makes those recipes public as I would be very interested to know what is causing that chocolate note in Posh as I have at least 20 chocolate style concentrates an still struggle to make a British style chocolate vape, UK and US chocolate are so different and every recipe or one shot I have tried so far is modelled on the US chocolate flavour profile. Here’s hoping Fear drops more gold for the community in future as Cardinal is also always in my rotation

1 points

by TheDudeWatchesover 5 years ago

Yes, so far everything about Chefs was exceptional.

I tried Cardinal with the original Holy RY4, but custards and creams don’t sit well with me so after about a week they go rancid on me or just taste of coconut. The only cream I can use is TFA Bavarian Cream.

Fear’s gone a bit quiet unfortunately, but you can find him on discord.

I just mixed a bunch of recipes with CAP Sweet Guava. I'm vaping u/Mathematical's Pacha Mama (remix) right now, and it's awesome.

I'm thinking about making something with CAP Sweet Guava, TFA Honeydew and FA Lime Tahity.

Vaping Candy King Peach Rings. I prefer their Strawberry Sour Belts. Anybody have a good tasting Mango or Strawberry flavor they recommend ?

Not sure if you're asking for a commercial or DIY flavor, but Mangeaux from Vape Kitchen on River Supply is very good, and has a very strong flavor. All of their mango flavors are supposed to be excellent, I can also vouch for the Thai Mango reserve. Not all of the Vape Kitchen juices are good, speaking of strawberry, the strawberry milkshake was gross for me

If you’re interested in learning more check out the DIYORDIE YouTube channel- he has shorter, more easily digested videos. A lot are aimed at beginner mixers. I think he has a beginner playlist. Watch his video ‘let’s talk about: the cost of vaping’ it’ll make you want to do DIY!

Other resources that I’ve found invaluable are,

Developed- where they make a recipe each week. They have their own YouTube channel.

Noted- which is available on the DIYorDIE YouTube. They discuss flavourings.

Mixin’ Vixens- they have a different photo each week of some sort of yummy desert and everyone mixes a recipe of the photo each- of that makes sense?!

(Noted, Developed and Mixin Vixens episodes are available as podcasts under ‘In the Mix’)

I would start with DIYORDIE to see if it’s something that interests you as he explains things more fully as a lot of his videos are aimed at beginners.

Also on the Developed YT channel they have condensed versions of the longer podcast that are 10-20 mins long. They’re pretty entertaining. Plus they did a couple of episodes specifically for beginners- they explain a lot on those. Plus they did a list of their recommended first flavours to buy.

There’s tons of other resources out there but they’re a good place to start.

If you’re looking for DIY flavors, not one shots, you have a few options for those profiles.

Fa Red Touch, INW Shisha Strawberry, Cap Sweet Strawberry, & TFA Strawberry (Ripe)

Are all solid and well mixed strawberry profiles. Do some flavor research on strawberries via Noted or FOTW to find the best strawberry for your recipe needs.

Mango is one of my favorite vape profiles, and I own quite a few that I enjoy in combination.

FA Indian Special Mango, FLV Mango, and Cap Sweet Mango are usually what I put in my mango mixes. Sweet mango being my least favorite of the three, I use it pretty low. This profile would also benefit from some research before buying, to find the best mango for your recipes.
