As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
#This week's flavor is.... PAPAYA! (Fruta bomba if ya nasty)
How did that get to be the FOTW?
It was requested!

Papaya flavors generally and especially TFA Papaya can be difficult to work with, but they have used to make some of my most favorite recipes ever:
And my own:
1-2-3 #YachtCocaineProstitutes
I think your comments about new mixers in this episode were spot on. The hard work put in by so many amazingly talented and crazy people make this a truly essential resource and I couldn't stand to see it dry up, especially now when I've lurked long enough to mix my first batch of recipes... none of my own yet, but it's early days.
I both love and hate the episodes which feature recipes! I know I'll end up with more in the basket than is reasonable. There ARE a lot of sales on now though so I feel I should stock up while they're available.
I was chatting with a vendor yesterday and the SA govt is going to be ruling on vape regulations in Feb so no one really knows how things will go, but the sentiment seems pretty pessimistic right now.
On the other hand if you shop the South African sites from overseas, you can probably get some sweet deals right now. I have no idea what shipping would be like however.

TFA Papaya has some funk to it. Almost cheesy funk.

I like papaya flavors. I have no recipes to post really but I use them often. I'll throw it together with another fruit or a couple of fruits. TFA and FW (Natural) are both pretty good. WF is really good and much more potent. I didn't really care for FA but might give it another chance.
I haven't tried Flv Papaya Punch. I didn't read much about it so not sure.
Part 1
Noted Ep. 135: PAPAYA (ft. Mr Burgundy)
Ranked from worst to first.
HC Papaya: Really bad. Very butiric- both at 1% and 3%. Maybe it could work somewhere under 1% and with a longer steep than a week? But Mr B have it 3.5 weeks at 3% and it never steeped out. A good authentic papaya is hiding very deep under that vomit. There's better papayas to even bother with this. (5.24)
Magical Flavour Papaya: Chinese company that have some sort of relationship with HC. Starts off really tart, floral, similar to pineapple. Then quickly turns to a base-y cheesy, ripe, funkiness. Missing the fruity, cantaloupe-y, mango-y body in the mid section. It gets drowned out by the top and bottom. Tested at 1%. Could potentially be used very low, less than 1%, to help another papaya or other tropical fruits to be more realistic? Probably not good as the single papaya flavour in a mix. (7.19)
Euro Flavours Papaya: Very floral, not a lot that resembles papaya. Dark spice in the background. Tested at 3% which was likely too high. (11.39)
Euro Flavours Ripe Papaya: At 2% it's like microwave popcorn residue all over some tropical fruit. Fake butter off note that ruins it. Mr. B was going to check his bottle of EF Papaya to check it didn't say Ripe Papaya on it. Done confusion over whether they're the same flavour. (13.41)
Nature's Flavors Organic Papaya: Similar to Euro Flavours Papaya this had a spice note. Also has a muskiness, which was the only thing vaguely relatable to a papaya. Also has an onion note- musky onions. Almost savoury. ID10-T tested it at 4% and got some sort of tropical creamsicle dipped in onion juice. Onion-y astringency right in top, vague orange coloured tropical fruit in the middle. Doesn't really taste like papaya. A bit funky, tropical ripeness. Vanilla off note on the base that sticks out, with a creamy finish. (14.23)
Bickford Papaya: The best Bickford flavour Mr B has tried so far- still highly mediocre. Really thin, no body. Even at 5% not very saturated. A little muskiness, without tasting overly green. Sugary, sharp edge similar to FLV Papaya Punch in that way. (17.14)
FLV Papaya Punch: Enjoyable to vape, but not authentic to a papaya. Has a bit of the funkiness of a papaya. But also has an odd candy sweetness. Top heavy, thin, slight spice note. Lacks depth. Ignoring the funkiness it has, it tastes like an artificial peach flavour. The body it has is more chewy gummy candy. Funky peach rings. Similar to FLV Peach Rings, but with added funkiness. Could be a good base for different tropical gummy candy recipes- mango, papaya, pineapple, guava, passion fruit - any tropical flavours with a funk to them. Although, as it's already so bright whatever it's paired with may need to be deeper? (19.07)
Delosi Papaya: Delightfully mediocre! Papaya flavoured sweet tart. Thin, sharp, candy sweetness. A little dry- makes you thirsty. Not very authentic as a papaya. Soft, not punchy. Lacks flavour even at 5%. Could be a good background for other tropical flavours? (21.56)
DEL Mango is a good mango.
FW Natural Papaya: Weaker- needs to be around 6%. Nice flavour, although not totally authentic. High, tart, slightly floral top note. Floral appropriate for a tropical fruit, not perfumey. Lacks really deep, tropical funkiness. Creamy, ripe melon texture. Sweet. Very slight bitter edge on the finish. A little too thin, perhaps due to the citric edge it has. Works well paired with another papaya flavour that has a lot of depth. Use it for the high, to note. Forgiving- use around 6%. (24.11)
Part 2
Noted Ep. 135: PAPAYA (ft. Mr Burgundy)
FA Papaya: Scratchy and dry. Very authentic to fresh papaya. Not as full bodied or saturated as some other flavours. Ranked lower not because of how it tastes, but because of how it vapes. Has a little funkiness. As it's not too funky it can work in a candy. Works well to give a little authentic papaya in a mix. Not great for use as the only papaya in a papaya recipe. Good at filling out other papaya flavours at around 0.5%. Use between 1-2%. Above that it starts to get floral. (26.25)
TFA Papaya and TFA Papaya II: TFA Papaya II is very similar to TFA Papaya, just ever so slightly worse. Can probably use them interchangeably. Has slight green note, a little muskiness- not quite as much as the original. The main difference between the two- this version is a little bit drier, more scratchy, not as juicy and full. The original is a little butiric. But the difference between this and the original is very minimal. The original has a bit more saturation and presence in recipes. Can be difficult to work with, but can be worth it. Both potent and pretty forceful over flavours in a recipe. Use both up to around 2%. 2.5% is the absolute limit, gets weird above that. 2% is probably all you'll need. At that % has good thick body, full flavoured. Sweet, deep, rich, juicy. Very light spice note. (29.40)
WF Papaya: Really tasty. So good as SNV is a bit funky. After a few days- a week it turns into wonderfully authentic papaya. The funkiness doesn't taste cheesy, like TFA, it's more fermented. Although not rotten. More like beer. Could probably easily turn this into a papaya beer recipe with some hops and a lime. Very sweet, very melon-y, mango-y and almost creamy. Juicy and syrupy in the same way JF Honey Peach is. Has a nice tartness, full bodied, saturated, almost intense flavour, coats the palate. Not remotely thin of dry. Use around 2-3%. Citrus-y tang on top. Doesn't have the odd spice note TFA and some others have. Can vape as a SF is so good. No sweetener needed. Much easier to work with than TFA. (38.14)
Recipes:
In A Godda Da Vida by MlNikon (TFA Papaya, FA Pomegranate, CAP Sweet Tangerine) The deep baseiness of Sweet Tangerine mellows out the funkiness in the Papaya. Pomegranate had is own issues which seem to be ironed out by the Papaya. Symbiotic triad.
Goddaron by ID10-T Spin off of Emily's papaya recipe. A fruit flavoured macaron using Emily's 3 fruit combo above.
Paps Pink Ribbon by Skiddlzninja Delicious. Pink lemonade with papaya. The citric hint of the Papaya melds right into the lemonade. Uses TFA Papaya as the base papaya then accents it with FA which brings a slight floral edge. Cucumber keeps it wet and saturated. Honeysuckle adds sweetness to floral edge of FA Papaya. 1.5% Strawberry Ripe adds red, EM sweetness.
Papaya Lime Tart by Tootall Refreshing bakery. Uses DazCole's pastry combo. Flakey, buttery. With FA Lime Tahity Cold Pressed and FLV Papaya Punch, which is a great combo. Refreshing and bright. Lime does steep out, but for the first couple of weeks is great. Bright fruits are up front, finishing off with buttery bakery in the background.
Papaya Banana Punch by ENYAWRECKLAW Nice, straightforward recipe. Uses 2% FA Papaya and 3% CAP Cantaloupe, which would both ordinarily be getting a bit floral at that %. But maybe the coconut and banana cream is mellowing it out because it's not floral in this mix.
Hakuna Matata by Zupp6m6n Uses 4% TFA Papaya, which is an awful lot of TFA Papaya. But it's up against 4% CAP Sweet Tangerine and 1% INW Cactus which are both pretty commanding flavours and reel it in. The cactus is a bit too high. But fun combo of flavours. Kind of creamy. The TFA Dragonfruit pulls everything together into a cohesive mix.
Notorious by NotCharlesManson One of ID10-T's favourite recipes of all time.
