I decanted 500ml of 72mg into 100 ml bottles. I never wear gloves and never had an issue but wow today I got some on my hands as some had leaked onto a bottle. Within 5 minutes I feel as if I’ve vaped 100ml of juice all at once. I know health and safety is some times laughed at but thought I’d share so you can learn from my lesson. Keep safe guys
Just wash your hands off if you get nicotine on them. It is not that big of a deal.
Even with 250mg/ml?
You'd need to be working with some pure stuff to really need to be concerned, and even then, just a quick (but relatively immediate) rinse with soap will do just fine. It absorbs through the skin, yes, but not nearly as fast as it would through the mucous membranes. If you got some in your eye, however, it could be a little more concerning
Not saying you shouldn't wear gloves as a precaution, but it doesn't seem plausible that getting a little 72mg concentrate on your hands would cause acute symptoms in someone who regularly uses nicotine.
I accidentally took a pull of 100mg concentrate once. That was an experience!
Oh no.
... what happened? Projectile vomiting?
No vomiting! Did get pretty sick though. Real light headed, almost to the point of passing out. Sweats like no other. Nausea real bad. Increased heart rate. It all lasted about 30 minutes then subsided.
> accidentally
Yeah right. 'Accidentally'
Sure.
I'm a member of many diy groups and people do it all the time. In honesty, it probably wasn't completely 100mg/ml at the point I hit it. I mixed up two bottles, added nic last. Shook one and not the other. Went to try the shaken up one to find it was the wrong one I grabbed. I don't add my nic last anymore.
As long as you handle Nicotine with care, then you should not have a problem. been using 100mg/ml for many years now and never had a problem. if I get a little on my skin then I just wash it off. easy peasy Where gloves if you choose too, but it is not necessary.
Sorry man, but that can't be the reason for your headaches, it#s a myth that nicotine can travel though the skin quickly. A university professor (toxicologist) from Austria, Dr. Bernd Mayer, who also has a Youtube Channel debunking vape myths, did an analysis of several scientific papers covering this.
The result: If you rub nicotine with a 20% concentration (that's 200mg/ml, not just 72mg/ml) directly on a 10 x 10 centimeter (3,9 x 3,9 inch) part of your skin, your nicotine intake would be about 1mg in total per HOUR (in PG/VG, about 9mg per hour if solved in water). So, you could bathe your hand in 200mg/ml base without any noticable effect.
I always wear gloves, for hygiene reasons, but it's not necessary to protect yourself. Protective eyewear is much more important, since just a drop in the eye would burn like crazy.
And btw, to bust another myth: The lethal nicotine dose for adults is NOT 60mg, that's an old number from Rudolf Kobert from 1906 (no joke, it's from an more than 100 year old paper and Kobert just guessed at this time after reading about experiments by Karl Damian von Schroff with 2-4mg...in the year 1856). The scientific consensus today, based on research from 2014, is that deadly doses for ADULTS start at about 500-1000mg. Sorry, CDC, you are basing your recommendation on SLIGHTLY outdated data from an old book by this guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolf_Kobert
Wear gloves. And always have a few packets of raw sugar in your diy kit, in case of emergencies. If nicotine gets on your skin, wash immediately, and eat a few packets of the raw sugar to counteract the effects of the nicotine.
Better yet, buy a level 3 hazmat suit and hire a couple of paramedics to stand by while you're mixing, in case of emergencies.
Raw sugar counters nicotine??
there’s a reason bottles of nicotine have skull and crossbones on them
be safe guys
I mix with 48 mg nicotine and even at that point I wear gloves. Spilled some on my hand a while ago when I wasn’t wearing gloves and it made me slightly light headed. Better be safe than sorry.
Yeah , it would seem judging by people comments wearing gloves is yet another subjective thing in vaping. Yes I read the warning labels like we read the warning labels on concentrates and things that it’s harmful to health blah blah but we still take a lung full. Even though it’s the first time this has happened to me in the 3 years of mixing I have learned a lesson on this particular one so gloves from now on. As you say better to be safe than sorry.
Your hands are an organ and absorb everything. I had the same realization working on my car with some heavy cancerous solvents like break cleaner just handling parts or rags. I've helped a few backyard mechanics and the things I see, one gentlemen was using break cleaner to clean oil off his hands because its so much stronger and more effective than a shops citrus cleaner but your skin absorbs it and metabolites it and this sort of stuff is known to cause cancer. Medical grade gloves one are one time use, they're fine for short periods of time without tearing, fine for handling bottles. Get thicker nitrile ones if your likely to use them when cleaning & auto too.
Most I knew used gasoline or diesel fuel, rather than brake cleaner. Did a very fast removal of accumulated grease and grime. Then hand cleaner to get thd fuel smell off.
Although the old hand cleaner (before the citrus based ztuff) was really effective it had a interesting sideeffect... It increased the speed at which anything would be absorbed through the skin. If didn't smell nice, either, but it worked so much better. No grit required, no water either.
Should always wear gloves and a breathing mask
Breathing mask is a bit of a stretch
Nope, you absolutely need a breathing mask. I wear one of those sleep apnea oxygen masks when handling 72mg nic. People say I look like I'm ready to shoot down a few MIGs when I got that thing on. Also I wear a set of those plastic sunglasses you see really old people wearing for my own protection. I saran wrap my arms before the rubber dish washing gloves go on as well. It adds another layer of defense IMO. Don't forget the plastic hair net. I don't know how many times I got nic splash particles in my scalp, but it's a lot.
Amateur. I epoxied some shoulder length dishwashing gloves to a Zorb , and wear that while I mix.
I knock over and spill a lot of stuff, and it's kind of a bitch fitting through doorways, but nicotine NEVER gets on my skin. One day, I'll successfully mix a bottle of juice without knocking it all over the table.
