Tuesday Tutorial: Suggest a Recipe for my Flavors Thread
submitted over 5 years ago by isuamadogRenaissance Mixer

Howdy y'all,

FIRST: This is not where you should ask for help. Do NOT link your stash here. Go to "SECOND" below.

SECOND: Here is a link to the current Weekly Suggest a Recipe for My Flavors thread

Third: Here is a link to ALL the suggest a recipe threads

Just me again with a small reminder for how to participate in this supportive community by asking for help and potentially giving a leg up to someone.

There is a weekly thread where you are encouraged to comment with your list of flavors and then hopefully someone will respond with a suggestion for you to try. The purpose of this thread is to organize the requests, keep them in one place and to give more experienced mixers a chance to help less experienced ones. It often gets overlooked and never stickied.

I remember posting in there when I first arrived and try to check in every now and again to see where there is a place for me to suggest possible mixes when I can and to suggest flavors when requested. It's a challenge sometimes when you know that starter flavor orders often have flavors that are less familiar to you or even worse, you know there are way better flavors for the job. Rather than to simply say, "get flv boysenberry" (for example), it helps for

More experienced mixers to make a suggestion:

  • give back what you learned, or what was given to you, help a fellow out
  • tell what your level of experience is with those flavors
  • suggest a combination with percents
  • suggest potential flavors to consider picking up on a next order (without flavor shaming of course)
  • tag a user that you think can speak to a particular profile (you can always tag u/ID10-T)

For people seeking help:

  • LINK your stash (Note: if you link to elr some of us will not be able to see it, please be mindful of the formatting. Even a shot on imgur isn't too bad if it's a short list)
  • make a modest request for what you are/were looking for (profile, target, goal, white whale, etc) when you picked up those flavors (it's not always obvious)
  • Keep your expectations reasonable
  • Be open to all responses which includes someone saying "lord those are some lousy flavors for the job" or "
  • Do NOT front page post requests for help with your flavors. Period. (But you can repost in the weekly thread.)
  • Report back if you liked or didnt like a suggestion, hopefully with an explanation and then people will help you even further (trust me), but try something that appeals to you.

u/ID10-T said it best in his appeal how paying it forward can pay off in mixing. Please Read it. He's much more articulate about how making suggestions can help you be a better mixer for yourself. Best quote ever:

" TL;DR Reminder that the "Weekly Suggest A Recipe for My Flavors" Thread exists. "

I'd add, please use it (and this one) responsibly.

or, just join the discord for more conversational style feedback from users of all levels.

  1. WS-23
  2. CAP Super Sweet
  3. INW Grape
  4. INW Cactus
  5. TFA Dragonfruit
  6. TFA Bavarian Cream
  7. TFA Vanilla Swirl
  8. TFA Strawberry (Ripe)
  9. TFA Honeysuckle
  10. FA Forrest Mix
  11. FA Fuji
  12. FA Red Summer (Watermelon)
  13. FA Pear

I've already made:

  1. Mother of Dragon's Milk (Rather average - flavors seemed dull mostly)
  2. Rainforest (Simply delicious)
  3. Bare Necessities (It's awesome when I have vapers mouth)
  4. My own version of Strap-On (It was okay)

I really enjoy fruity flavors, like bang in your face fruity! I want to explore bakeries and custards, but not sure where to start.

Any advice about how to use WS-23 and Super Sweet adequately is appreciated - My mixes tend to either go overboard or turn out underwhelming.

Can someone link me to a delicious Slushie recipe?

Also looking for suggestions regarding what flavors to buy next and recipes where they can be used.

Thanks.

Edit: Thanks to u/isuamadog for redirecting me to the correct thread, please post any suggestions at https://www.reddit.com/r/DIY_eJuice/comments/emq5pi/suggest_a_recipe_for_my_flavors_thread_week_of/

This is a great example of how to make a request but it’s still in the least helpful place for you to get feedback. Post in the Weekly Suggest a Recipe thread. The links are the blue lettered writing and the first one links to the latest thread for this week. Jan 10th, 2020. I’m mobile so can’t fix stuff rn

Hahaha. Sorry, my bad, I just read the title and assumed the rest.

Thanks for the redirect, though. Gosh! I like this sub.

No worries bud. That’s exactly why I made this post to get people to connect when and where they need.

Did you post the list again there? If you haven’t, you’ll need to.

One error you need to fix - DO NOT USE ELR LINKS. They led to a login wall. Just type the damn list. Double tap enter after each flavor..

Does anyone have any ideas for woodruff that don't involve strawberry? (I can't taste strawberries.)

I've been working with:

JF Sweet Woodruff
TFA Champagne
FA Brandy

I've tried adding various fruits to that, but none of them quite seemed to work.

No need to restrict ideas to flavors I already have, since I'm about to put in a flavor order anyway.

Bud. Read the post.

I got woodruff mainly to experiment with ales. Way back, before someone deided that the correlation between batches of beer that used hops as a flavoring agent and batches of beer that didn't spoil quickly implied causation (ie: hops preserved beer) and modern brewing really started, ancient brewers used local florals/herbs to flavor beer. Woodruff was one popular choice.

Also, I strongly support ideas for juices that don't use strawberries. Horribly nasty little things.

Hopefully I’m approaching this correctly. New to DIY and all. I’ve just been mixing others recipes and testing flavors to build up my knowledge. I’ve been searching for some info/ recipe/ place to start with mixing up a : Thai tea

Description of the flavor:

Thai Tea is is made from strongly-brewed black tea, often spiced with ingredients such as star anise, crushed tamarind, cardamom, and occasionally others as well (often making this beverage a favorite among masala chai tea fans). This brew is then sweetened with sugar and sweetened condensed milk, and served over ice.

Now what I’m looking at emulating is more of a canned Thai Tea drink made by FOCO.

Which has some very simple ingredients:

'WATER, SUGAR, MILK POWDER, TEA EXTRACT

Thinking about how this would break down would be something like:

The BASE: sweet cream

-lite, creamy, almost malted but not malted. (Maybe that’s the milk powder coming across as malted.)

The MIDDLE: tea

-It’s complex. Mainly a strong brewed black tea with hints of tamarind, faintest of star anise, and cardamom.

The TOP: sweetened condensed milk

I would love to get some direction on this as far as how to begin crafting this recipe. If anyone could provide some help by recommending some flavors to buy and some percentages to start testing with.

Any help at all would be much appreciated. Apologies if I’m posting this in the wrong thread or format. Would really like to make this flavor a reality for me.

check out the noted episode on creams/milks. pick one that sounds like what you are looking for. watch the noted episode on teas and pick one that sounds like what you are looking for.

Check the existing recipes on atf and read the notes that people leave. Look for the flavors that they use. Click on the flavor and see if everyone who used them used them the same way.

Do a search for "Chai" "tea" "chai tea" "thai" etc.

London Haze

Boba Thai Chai Tea

atf on FLV Chai Tea

keep looking, reading and learning. Pick up some flavors. Send the mixers a message.

Good Luck
