New Year - New Gear! Mod kit giveaways!
submitted over 5 years ago by TeslaDelMarI Survived Grack

Happy New Year! I wish you all a healthy and prosperous 2020!

/u/isuamadog and I have hatched a little scheme to help you ring in the new year. We've got some great prizes to give away, but there's a twist. Instead of giving these kits away to just anyone, we wanted to try and make sure that they'd go to people who truly need an upgrade.

Vaping is about not smoking, and all of us former smokers know the drill come New Year's Day - trying to convince yourself that this is the last year you'll be a slave to cigarettes. For me, that year was 2014, and I have never looked back. This community has given all of us insight and information in spades over the years, so what better way to give back than empowering a couple folks to reach new heights with their mixing?

Prize 1

Prize 2

Here's how it works. If your setup is old, broken, or otherwise pity-inducing, take some photos and write up your very best sob story. Reply to this thread with your submission. This thread will operate in contest mode, and on January 15, 2020 it will be locked. The person with the most upvotes will get their choice of prizes, and the runner-up will get the other prize.

To those of you who enter, good luck! To those of you who choose to sit out, thank you for respecting our desire to "vape it forward." You can show your support by lending upvotes to some of our less fortunate comrades.

EDIT: Sorry for adding this in after the fact, but we have to limit the shipping costs to $40 per prize. If it would cost more than that for us to mail you your prize via USPS Priority International, we'd ask for you to cover the difference if you'd like to enter. Apologies if this excludes some folks but we can't afford to spend hundreds on shipping in addition to the prizes themselves.

My gnarliest set up. My IPV400 and doge 3. The IPV has seen some shit, but just won't die.

Not an entry, just felt like sharing.

Good luck to everyone who enters, hope these two set ups find great homes.

My first, my only, my love, Alien Smok.

https://imgur.com/a/YYZh3yr

So this box was my original purchase and it's been through more accidental drops and falls than I can remember. The top piece is held on by electrical tape and super glue, more tape to hold the battery door shut.

The original tank broke long ago and I purchased the Falcon tank which I love, but it is the first edition of the tank and has been part of a few drops so it leaks a bit. Doesn't really cause a mess unless I do a higher PG mix, so not all that horrible.

The battery door being lose makes the batteries drain unevenly but overall it works and does it's job of keeping me from smoking. With my wife and I expecting our first kid in May we are needing to move into a bigger place. So since the box still works it's not been any sort of a priority to replace.

Thanks for the opportunity to be a part of this, good luck to everyone and congrats to the winner(s)!

Edit: First grade English mistakes.

Awesome guys.

How far back should I go?

Lets start at 2018. I had a nice little set up, only a drag, I was learning to make coils, and more importantly I stopped smoking.

July 2018, my mom called me in tears, that my dad had a heart attack. For a while the prognosis was not going well. He had a stroke on the operating table as well.

To get all situated, I packed a bag and early August 2018 was back home. By then he was starting to recover a little. My time was up, I was supposed to leave on Monday, it was Sunday. My mom told me what my dad can and can't do. And how she needs help helping him, and stuff around the house, and they asked me to stay.

I didn't have money to fly back to FL to get my belongings, which included basically all my vape stuff I collected. But, it's OK, family is more important.

Until the start of 2019 I busted my butt doing everything I could for my folks. I went from the warmth of FL to the winter of NJ. Ugh.

Also, let's not forget besides leaving my extrs vape stuff in FL. I lost 90% of my clothes, ps4, car, decent paying job. But. Family.

So anyway. My friend gave me a smok Mag. And it helped fend off the cravings until a coworker dropped that in a koi pond while working.

Ive been on and off analogs since then.

What am I using now you ask, a njoy ace from the gas station and it's over priced pods.

It doesn't hold back the cravings, I was always on the high end of nic % until I worked myself down. But I don't have the option to do any of that. I've smoked more in the past 6 months than I have in years since I had the drag and mag.

My dad has started to recover nicely, but now I'm stuck in NJ, the money's gone.

I'm trying to save up for a vape, but I don't make that much since I just needed a job since I moved back home.

Im also trying to save to rebuy my ps4. I miss that too. Lol.

So recap. Dad's doing OK, but I'm stuck in NJ, currently using a njoy ace, and it's junk. I need to quit cigs as 3 of my family members died of lung cancer and it terrifys me.

A head start on a vape would be huge as I can cut tobacco back out and start saving up for my ps4, then get the rest of my life rolling again.

Giving up and restarting is not fun.

Thanks guys.

And I came to this sub today because my other friend went and bought a new mod (jealous) and I was trying to find him a guide to make ejuices.

I had to explain to him that I can't do that with the ace.

by ClaimGamingover 5 years ago

And now my njoy ace won't hold a charge, I can only used it when it's plugged in. Lol.

I hope you win because I can so relate to being a caregiver for family members. I gave up my life to do so too years ago. It was the hardest yet most rewarding thing ever. I ended up late in life going back to college and getting my BSN. Wouldn't suggest nursing to my worst enemy! It is hard, stressful, and debilitating work among backstabbing administration and co-workers. I am now disabled, home bound, and mostly bed bound d/t chronic illness/pain. I will pray for you to win. If I could afford to I would help pay for the shipping if you won, but I have no money and we are on the edge of losing our home and all we worked so hard for. God bless you for helping your family and I hope that you win!

Thanks for the post. Unless you go through it, you don't know how tough it is.

I hope everything turns out well for you.

By the lack of replies, I don't think I will.

Which sucks, all the stress and anxiety combined with being a former smoker, and mod user, to a njoy ace. It isn't that helpful.

And to cap it off, my job demoted me. Was assistant store manager of a retail place. Been there 2 months. I've been sick all of December, and all the closing shifts the store manager gave me because she didn't want to work then. Well, I was closing up the store, and I forgot to close the door to the mini safe. Nothing was missing but, boom, my wages and hours are pretty much gone. From 38 to 12 because I'm only a sales associate now.

Still crossing my fingers.

Please guys, the stress is a lot, and I could really use something to keep me away from analogs!

I would like to thank you guys for the upvotes!!!

I can't wait to receive my new box mod. It is well needed... Badly.

With my given situation mentioned enough, I am going to have a tiny issue with batteries and e-juice. This is my first week they my pay will reflect my 38 to 12 hours worked. So I have to figure out a way to inch my way towards batteries and ejuice.

But I will find a way! Again, thank you yo all who voted and the two heroes running the contest!

My 1 1/2 to 2 year old Smoant Battlestar, With an OBS engine on top. Been using this thing daily for the whole time. Its been dropped, smashed, scrapped, and had the glass broken more times than i could remember.

The fire button doesnt work that great, when you press it, it almost always asks if there is a new coil on it. sometimes it just takes me to the menu and starts to change settings. (very bad when it changes wire type and from VW to TC.)

otherwise its an old reliable setup.

Thank you for the chance at an update/grade.

Edit for formating

Oh my sweet solo, still a fine mod, and reliable.. on the inside. You've stuck it out through my first time actually quitting the stinkies and I can never repay your for that. You could probably make 2020 your bit**, but it will be a rough one for vaping so who knows.. stuck with me through thick and thin, lots of fights, lots of drops, work, vacation, you did it all. But damn if your aren't the ugliest device I've seen in a while... your still beautiful.. on the inside.. thanks for reading! Happy new year.

I'm not gonna enter, but just wanted to let y'all know that this is an amazing thing that y'all are doing. We mix hundreds of recipes and go on and on about this flavor or this new atty, but we should never forget that the reason that we started vaping was to get away from cigarettes, and keeping our fellow vapers away from cigs is a great thing

by cbrules3033over 5 years ago

First off, thanks for doing this! That's really awesome of you, and best of luck to everyone who enters.

I've been trying out the Orion by Lost Vape for the last year or so and it has 100 percent kept me off cigs successfully over the course of owning it. However, I think the battery is going bad, it's puffed out on both sides now. Even though I have taken really good care of it, it only lasts me about 10 minutes when not tethered to a charger. It has been getting worse and worse, the hits have become much less powerful, the quality of hit has been very inconsistent and I can't use it when it's not plugged in (practically).

Not much of a sob story, but for the first time in about a year I was considering buying a pack of cigs, day after day the urge built and I finally bought one 2 days ago. Still have it, smoked a few, and I have figured out that I now HATE cigarettes, with a passion, they stink, they make me feel bad and they make my mouth taste and feel awful. However, I keep finding myself smoking one now and then now that I have them at my disposal, because my life saver just isn't really doing the trick anymore.

Maybe, a new ecig can get me back on the right track, who knows, worth a shot, and that's why I'm entering.

Thanks for reading and here's the pic of the bulging and dying ecig that has served me very well.

http://imgur.com/gallery/iw8zCdt The only thing keeping me off cigs ^

Hearing that your internal battery mod is "puffed out on both sides" really concerns me! I know you would like to win this contest, and I hope you do. But for less than $40 you can buy the Falcon kit...for like $20 and it works great! I got it for my sis that has to have a simple mod with internal batteries. She is thrilled with it. It even has great coils that are not that expensive. For safety please stop using that mod! That is how people end up in the hospital because their vape blew up in their face. Battery safety is a priority! Best of luck to you

Oh! I didn't know! Thanks! Yeah the battery actually finally just pushed the face plate off, so now it's exposed and hanging on by the wires lol. I'll check it out, thanks for the info! :)

Haha no worries. Nothing crazy, just saw the deal of a lifetime right after xmas and took it. Spent $20 (shipped price) and got a Tarot mod kit (with tank) to replace my identical broken one and a new RDA to replace an ancient RDA. So zero regrets lol, I couldn't be happier.

Hi, I’ve been vaping for a few months and so far I’m really enjoying it. I use to smoke but everyone shunned me and I felt like a outsider so I turned to vaping .I’m currently using pods systems for more intense flavor, but I’m interested in getting an upgrade to a box mod. I’ve never had a box mod before but I’ve tried a few at my local vape shop and really enjoyed it! The pod systems I have is faulty because it doesn’t charge all the way and it’s small in my hand. When I get my first box mod I want something sleek and polished like these your offering. I’m currently saving money to buy a mod but the ones your offering look perfect for beginners like me. I really appreciate that you all give always systems like these because not everyone has the money to pay for them. Anyways yeah that’s my story. I plan to continue vaping for a while and I’m gonna build up my collection of vapes and tanks. Thanks 😊

Wotofo Chieftan https://imgur.com/gallery/3s6GYK4 Two year old Wotofo Chieftan that always works. Not too crazy about how it looks but it just won't die. Paint started coming off a couple weeks after I got it. Used to have a Stentorian Steam Engine tank on it but they quit making and selling replacement coils. 26650 battery life kinda sucked so I put a Berserker Mini on it. Run it at 14.5 watts, gets halfway decent flavor but not as good as the Steam Engine was. Battery is a lot happier now. I think I'm a good candidate for the giveaway. I promise to take real care of the new setup if I win. If I don't win then The Old Chief and I will have to make do. P.S. I lost my good mod at Christmas. I think I left it in a changing booth when I was trying on a new coat. It was a Recurve Sqounker. I'm a little depressed right now, feel like an old friend moved far away.

I have been a vaper since 2016 and started mixing DIY juice only recently (like a month.) I must have the worst luck purchasing devices as they all end up failing or getting dropped. Mostly failing or not working as intended. I am at the point to where I don't want to spend money on mods and tanks that follow Murphy's law! Yihi and Smok are the worst offenders! It seems a dual 18650 from one of these companies only last in my hands 5 months tops. Ive only broke one mod by me dropping it but have been through 10 mods dying. Button fail, several autofires, 510 sink and bushing leak juice on board, plastic body seam failure, you name it, I've had the displeasure to experience.

My daily drivers are above in the pic Engine Nano has a glass cannibalized from some other tank and does not close properly due to the glass being 1mm too tall. Original glass broke from just tipping over on a glass desk and it spidered. It's sitting on the Sigelei 75w which is by far the most reliable device I have ever owned. It has seen so much use the brushed metal is becoming polished on the edges from holding it. Also, the Istick Pico I use daily and am forced to mate a 22mm RDA which is a sad, sad Royal Hunter.

Part of me is proud to vape like a poverty stricken gopnik, but if I ever have a shot with the vape booth babes, maybe I should start with an upgrade. I wouldn't want them to think they might get herpes from hitting my vape and trying my newest DIY recipie!

I live in the Australian tropics and will not be able to pay for shipping. If you are expecting money for shipping, you might as well delete this post.

If not, read on.

Living in some of the worst weather known to man, my mod has started disintegrating. The bloody heat and humidity has taken its toll on my mod. The heat and the humidity is unbearable. The repetitive local crime and the ineffective judiciary makes my blood boil. All of this has resulted in the piss poor condition of my mod. Am guessing the boiling blood makes the temperature of my palms go up and is in turn damaging my mod.

Just look at the poor sodding thing : https://imgur.com/a/GmNbpoa No one knows how such a high quality finish of a mod can end up in such tatters in barely 11 months of very gentle use. I even installed bubble wrap in my cars cup holders so my little mod would be safe. But alas. No one can understand why it has a bulge on its side either https://imgur.com/a/MKbOmHo. The local vape shop says only 30 days of warranty and pisses on Australian consumer law (warranty for a year/reasonable period relative to the cost). But the local community loves him because he gives 15% off on over-priced juices. https://imgur.com/a/1ZcHGHC. So I dont want to give him any more of my business. For what ? To be exploited ?

I can't even see the manufacturers name any more. Boo hoo. Sorry it was voo poo. People hated the HUGE 'Drag' written over the mod, I can't even see it to hate it. The body of the mod is disintegrating every single day. So much that after every vape session, I look at my hands and I have to pick out the body of my mod, as if splinters in my hand. At the same time, it makes me weep - my mod is disappearing, one splinter at a time. If this doesn't arouse pity in a vapers heart I don't know what will.

I tried to go the RTA route and got the royal piece of devilish shit called uhmm.. something. I have bothered everyone I know, risking relationships, to teach me how to wick the muthafishing thing. Some of you from discord would know. I can now wick the cunt, but it has got no flavour - so I will appreciate the mesh RTA.

.....If you could include some SS316L wire, some mesh wire and Rayon, I will be very pleased.

Hey, sorry, I forgot to clarify shipping in the post body - unfortunately, we can't afford to spend more than $40 shipping each prize out, and it looks like it'd cost ~80 USD to get one of these boxes to Australia. I have updated the OP with this information, and sorry to waste your time.

This is amazing.

Not much of a sob story.. but I bought my ol' reliable SnowWolf 200W about 5 years ago when they were first dropped. I think I was vaping at 24mg's back then. It's been through hell. Kept me sane when I dropped cigarettes throughout all my attempts. Its lasted longer than my two VooPoo setups. Just keeps going. Even dropped this son of a bitch off a ferris wheel at a fair and it still works (even though the glass is all sorts of broken). Testament of solid workmanship.

Here's some pics if you're interested. http://imgur.com/gallery/Gl1aT1w

Not a sob story just one that leaves me without a vape, but my friend who is trying to get from chewing to vaping asked if he could borrow my drag 2. He dropped it, and somehow screwed up the chip and now when I put batteries in it. It auto fires. A vape shop tried to fix it and it ended up the screen fired out of the mod and the chip caught on fire. This is what was told. Short story all I have is my aegis legend. I should have gave him my other mod(Aegis legend). My girlfriend is now is trying to quit cigarillos and is to broke to buy herself a vape. Even tho caliburns are 30 bucks. She has my aegis now. I am too broke to buy a new mod. My cat dropped my caliburn in the toilet yesterday. That weird fucker. So I am up shits creeks right now vape wise because of bills.

I've been Vaping for 5 years now, and although I pretty much chain vape, I'm still off the cigarettes. I've had a lot of regulated mods over the years, but they all seem to give up the ghost after about 6 months. Now I'm just left with my "Hugo squeezer" which is a good old work horse, but not ideal, as I mix my own liquid and have nothing but my wasp nano to test with . I had to give up work a few years ago to look after my wife, who is very ill, so I don't get out much, and can't afford a new mod. I've always longed for a dna mod, so here's hoping. Never won anything in my life, but there's a first time for everything, or so they say.

What kind of sociopath wants to hear about someone's back luck and air it publicly? If you really only cared about it going to someone in need you would have them message their bad luck story or maybe they are just poor. Why would someone want another person without any money to publicly humiliate themselves for their entertainment?

I think the spirit of the giveaway is that the community can upvote to try to get the equipment in the hands of someone who might appreciate it the most. Nothing’s perfect but we’re trying to make it less random and more efficient.

Please upvote whomever you think deserves it. Thank you for your input.

To tag on to what /u/isuamadog said, I have chosen my words poorly if that was your takeaway. I don't want anyone to humiliate themselves. This was meant to be a light-hearted contest where people could share stories about gear that they have loved to death. The goals were:

  • Give away two prizes
  • Allow the community to choose a winner
  • Try to find users who need an upgrade rather than ones who want an upgrade

Given those parameters, this is what we came up with. Sorry if it came across as schadenfreude.
