Hi Everyone
I know this is a subjective question and its really preference but i am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on any juices (DIY flavoring , etc.) that has helped them in quitting smoking. i am currently vaping an Orange Creamcicle that i love but still struggling to switch completely over. i have a few obstacles in my way such as access to cigarettes and a wife that smokes but i am wondering if anyone has any other suggestions that might help. i have moved everything out of sight (ashtrays, packs, lighters, etc) but i am still finding myself getting up to grab one. I'm starting to think that maybe the flavor Juice i am vaping isn't working for me. or is it simply just my lack of will power.
i want to thank everyone for your comments and suggestions. i was never a big reddit guy until i found this forum and everyone is so supportive and helpful. i honestly dont know what i would do if i didn't find this group. certainly wouldn't be mixing and vaping. i always thought i wasnt smart enough to take it on but with help from everyone here it has been not only easier than i thought but dare i say, fun as well.

thank you all!
What you need is 2 different attys filled with two different levels of nicotine. Make one a fruity/bakery/etc 3mg juice. Make the other a tobacco juice at 12/18/24 mg. Puff on the 3mg most of the day. But at those times when you really feel the urge for a cancer stick (after dinner, first thing in the morning, after whoopee, etc) hit the high nic tobacco juice. Over time, make a conscious effort to reduce the number of times you go for the high nic each day and taking fewer puffs when you do. Over time your desire for the higher nic will diminish.
I would start off using a higher nic level. 18mg or so. I know they make higher but that's the highest I used. I'm down to 3mg now, which is hardly anything compared to a full cigarette. I smoked cigs for 25 years, been vaping 5 years. Wife still smokes the cigs too. Once you get past that 2 week cig free mark, you will start to get your senses back. Vaping just tastes and smells better, for me anyway. Hope this helps.
Thank you!
Agreed, maybe im just anxious. i have been smoking for about 33yr and the past couple of years it has been 2 pack a day. getting so unhealthy and expensive. im excited now that im making my own juices and using mods, building coils, etc but feeling guilty that i am still smoking.

Juice could be a reason. Visit your local vape shop and try out samples and figure out which flavor category/ies you enjoy.

It's also a question of will power. My friend and I started vaping at the same time (we decided to quit smoking and got the same vape devices together). However, our pods leak when placed in the pocket. I still haven't touched a cancer stick. He only smokes 1 or 2 when he's out. We both used to smoke a lot (he smoked 10/day, I smoked 15/day). (Higher than the national average.)

Your wife might be influencing you with smoking whether you like it or not. Speak to her re this and try to reach a compromise.
Hope you kick the cancer sticks for good and also, your wife makes the switch to a healthier lifestyle. All the best.
thank you for the suggestion!!! i have tried to get the wife onto vaping so we could do it together but she isnt having it, she says its to "wet" for her. i cant push her to do it. but she is super supportive and constantly asks me if its bothering me and offers to take it in the other room etc.
I'd definitely go for a higher nic content. IMO if you're a heavy smoker freebase nic isn't strong enough to fully act as a replacement to smoking. I recommend trying out 25mg nic salts, if you sub ohm you can dilute it with another juice to cut back the strength if it's too strong but when I swapped off from cigs to vaping 20 to 25mg juice was giving me basically the same effect as smoking, but I had smoked quite strong tobacco so YMMV.
i agree with that completely. i did switch over to Salts but i am vaping at 15mg now. I was sort of hoping i could get away with not going to 24mg, but i might have to. that could also be my entire issue. i have upped the nic level from what i started. maybe im just frustrated. i also remember when i quit a bunch of years ago with cigalikes they were at 24mg but the flavor was always off.
If you pick up some higher concentration salts, you can always save the salts you have now for when you get over that hump and want to start lowering your concentration.
I think people have a tendency to underestimate the nicotine tolerance you can develop from smoking tobacco, there's no real harm in starting out high especially if you're struggling to completely drop cigs. As for juice how sweet are you mixing your ADV? I tend to find overly sweet juices get to be too much if you're using it a lot. Alternatively if you miss the taste of tobacco I've heard some good things about certain tobacco flavored juice so that might be worth looking into too.
When I started I couldn't get into deserts or fruits. I used ry4 with vanilla that was dry. I didn't want "wet" After a couple of months I experimented with non tobacco flavors and now love fruits and desserts. A lot of the vanilla custards can be dryish. Try that. I had smoked for over 40 years and was 2 to 2.5 packs a day. It took me 3 days to go total vape. When you get the urge to smoke, kick up the voltage and do a few chain hits and it will go away.
Thank you!!! Oddly enough when I did quit a bunch of years ago that exactly what I quit on was ry4 vanilla from Bloog.
People quitting need that throat punch! Best of luck!
Blue raspberry bubblegum worked for me. The way I did it was just cut down as much as possible and only smoke when you can't stand it anymore. Vape the rest of the time. I finally worked my way down to 1 cigarette a day and that was the morning one. With a big push of will power you need to convince yourself before you even get out of bed that you won't have that first cigarette and just vape instead. I hope that helps. Thats exactly how I quit.
I did something similar last time. I told myself if you really want one you can have one in a couple of hours. Then when that hour was up I said to myself "self" if you really want one tomorrow you can have one. And so on and so forth until I got to the point of saying you've come so far don't blow it.
But then I was traveling on business and TSA took my vape and there weren't any shops yet so I grabbed a pack and said only this time. Then only when I travel, then i was back on them.
IMO if you are here then you are headed in the right direction. I found "99 juices" when I first started mixing, but is really not the best site for the power of today's devices. I noticed that snake oil clone has 11% TFA pear, which is insane to me. I usually use that in very low percentages. Some of those recipes are very old (5 yrs). I think you really need to vape something you truly enjoy, and don't want to put it down. I would not dare put a cancer stick in my mouth if I had a good recipe to vape. Try using "all the flavors", and try to mix a few different profiles with high ratings(eg. Cabin, Rainforest, or Daveberry cheesecake) just to mention a couple of great recipes. Sometimes less is more for a lot of flavors. I found that some of the profile's I liked with commercial juices weren't what I really loved. I was just finding juices that I could partially stand or did not hate. Look at the first order flavors, because they really "play well with other flavors", and give you many options. Try the diy discord and ask any questions you like. There are many knowledgeable individuals who would love to lead you in the right direction.
I was in the same boat until I actually tried mtl (the Ares rta was what did it for me). Mtl at 12mg is what finally got me off cigarettes. Before I was using 6mg in a big airflow tank but I kept going back to cigarettes. The juices that worked were from my local shop, one was Muffin Man which I've since discovered was literally the one shot you can buy at liquid barn, the other was something they called Cowboy, which I haven't figured out yet (but was myain juice at the time). It was somewhere between The Duke Clone and Western/Burley/DNB.
Edit: I wanted to add that after about 6 months my wife also quit smoking and now she also vapes.
Have you tried an MTL set up? Maybe mixing some 18 mg regular nicotine juice or a 35mg salt nicotine juice would help. (In an MTL setup) I really enjoy the uwell caliburn
I apologize, I am not familiar with MTL. Can you send a link or explain?
Mouth to lung setup up. It uses low wattage and has tight airflow. It mimics a cigarette
Ahhh.... thank you, I'm still a bit new to the acronyms. I have used both and currently I actually just started doing direct lung hits. Which I was never able to do before without choking. Which is what has mainly been stopping me from moving forward because I needed to vape cigalikes. But now that i can do my own building i am excited and making progress. I am currently running direct lung, quad core clapton single coil .31 running at 30 watts.
Each cigarette you skip for vaping is a victory in itself. Don't beat yourself up. Your ahead of where you were, smoking all day.
Vaping has a learning curve. The setup definitely determines the amount of nicotine you need to satisfy that urge.
Years ago I started with a small ego battery n tank. Vaped 12mg and 18mg and still cheated with a smoke here n there. Then I bought a subohm tank and vaped 3mg on a .15 coil at 100w. That did the trick for me. Haven't smoked a cig in 4 1/2 yrs. Now I vape 3mg on a single coil alien .2 ohms at 65w in a rda. Also 12mg in a mtl tank at .8 ohms at 20w. I have also vaped hundreds of different flavors along my journey. Don't give up. Just keep experimenting until you find what satisfies your urge.
Thank you! I think I'm getting there. I switched to an Ry4 mix i made and bumped the nic salt up to 23mg and that helped SOOOOOOO much. Now the last couple of days I've only had a couple of smokes. One in the morning and once during the evening. Now I just have to find the right ry4 mix because this one leaves a little bit to be desired as far as taste. I was smoking 2 packs a day and now I haven't bought smokes for almost 4 days. I'm feeling excited.
Which ry4 recipe are you using?
Graham's RY4
I adjust the nic to 24 and try to mix as close as I can to 80/20, usually get to about 73/27 and have to cut the nic to 23 in order to get the mix to "work" the best without it telling me I have to remove too much PG.
Edit: I forgot to say the I am substituting TFA RY4 double with TFA RY4 Asian. I had that on hand and actually like it.

It may sound counter intuitive, but try ditching the flavors and switch to salt for one of your setups: I used what I call the "stop potion", 50-55mg NN VG Salt Smooth base in an all VG juice, you can add a couple drops of water or PG for wicking. My setup was b/w 0.7-1.0ohm and just chain vaped through the hard times with the lowest and coolest setting that produced adequate vape.
You will get used to the taste and it will emulate a clean cigarette without the paper and the rest of the junk, you will learn what nicotine actually tastes like. After a couple weeks my tolerance level dropped slightly to around 45mg and so on, but I made no effort to drop my nicotine level, it just happened by itself after every couple of months.
You should also have a second setup with lower nic for nighttime and less stressful times, I did this just by adding VG to my potion in my tank.
I think salt nic is awesome, it's much better then smoking by a mile, so don't hesitate to try it. I also think that flavors can can take your focus off of entirely letting go of cigarettes. Unflavored high salt nic will become your 'clean cigarette' and you can focus on your nicotine intake better. I could not tolerate freebase at higher levels it gave me a headache, nausea and insomnia. Salt nic was the missing link that made vaping work 100% for me.
With all that you can try a flavored commercial salt nic and magic might happen, if not, then try the above minimalist brute focus method.
