First diy. Vape not good
submitted almost 6 years ago by Eggnood1e

*Update below. Vape now good. Ty diy sub.

Just tried to make my first bottle of unflavored juice.

  • 50ml empty juice bottle
  • added 1.5ml of 100mg/ml nic base
  • added pg to 30 percent
  • topped up with vg
  • shake

Vape 4 or five puffs and have a bad case of brainfog/ headache.

Tipped it out of my tank. An hour or so latter feel better.

Load tank with naked 100 @6mg vape 4 or five puffs and feel great.

The batch I made smells slightly nutty which is normal I have read. The nic base isn’t yellow or anything like that.

Thoughts?

The brainfog/headache sounds like you didn't shake enough. The nic floated to the top so when you poured out, most of the nic was in that hit.

Add nic first, flavors, then PG. Shake. Then add VG. Shake the shit out of it, make sure there's air/room in the bottle to mix. Then always shake well before dishing out. Once it steeps and with enough shaking, the nic will incorporate well.

Cheers, it didn’t taste like a big nic hit but could have been. I did shake it for a min or two though.

Should I shake the nic base as well? I was worried about it afterwards.

Shake everything except VG and PG. Even flavors, if it's just a quick jolt.

Thanks. Will make another and see if that was the trick.

An update,

Thanks to all who replied. I was nearly turned of diy by that bad experience.

It seems that there was indeed a hotspot that I puffed on. Strange because I can usually handle a lot of freebase (former pod salt user).

I feel a bit embarrassed to admit I did not shake thePG base.

Made a 3mg batch yesterday with light red usa flavor at 2%, shook all bottles and let it steep for a day. Vapes well.

I originally thought there may have been an issue with the nicotine because it didn’t taste harsh at all but gave the ill effects.

It seems that it is actually a smooth fresh nic so I was able to vape the hotspot unknowingly, or at least that is what I am chalking it up to.

Yup it needs a good shake and I like to put some menthol in my flavorless stuff.

Any reason you're vaping flavorless out of curiosity

Economy, health and curiosity to find the simplest best tasting vape.

Was planning to add low levels of different flavors when I get the hang of it to see what is the most pleasing at the lowest concentration.

Honestly though ill effects aside, the unflavored tasted pretty good.

That’s not to say I think flavors are unhealthy, I just notice a bit of inflammation with certain flavors.

I identify with this quite a bit. I often vape very low flavor amounts to reduce irritation.

Rolling your bottles also helps in the mixing, leave the bottle on its side for a couple hours or overnight the a another roll or shake.

I also prefer no flavor/low flavor juices. INW Coconut is a good tank mixer in low percentage there is no real coconut taste, just adds to the mouthfeel. INW biscuit, Hangsen French Ice Cream, FW Hazelnut, INW eucalyptus-mint, FA Nonna cake, FA cookie, TFA graham cracker crust, FA Orange, any vanilla, are all great swirl n'vape flavors. Caramel is good too, but it's likely to have sweeteners in it. No need to steep bakery or cream either.

Beware of apple, pineapple, cinnamon, clove those are habitual offenders amongst flavors, test all nutty flavors if you have nut allergies. Always do a lick test on the back of your palm to get a feel for the flavor profile and strengh. I started doing drip in the tank n' vape to test my flavorings and found that those flavors I liked just after a swirl I liked and those I didn't wouldn't become any better no matter the recipe or steeping or whatnot. Nowadays a lot of so called single flavors are in fact complex flavorings and are satisfying by themselves.

Thank you for the knowledge. This will help a lot.

Shake like crazy. By chance do you have problems with vanilla products like candles or imitation flavoring. I noticed you said you were experiencing some inflammation that's why you are mixing unflavored. My buddy can't handle certain vanilla products so I have to be careful what I can mix for him.

Not vanilla specifically.

I would say that its more heavily flavored ejuice at higher temps/wattages. It has happened with blueberry to creams. Now I just stick to lower wattages and stay away from juices that are heavy on flavor/sweetener. Makes a huge difference.

I've stopped using any sweetener and just relying on the flavors to sweeten the juice. So far I've found my mixes just a good as when they had sweetener.

Nice. What kind of mixes are we talking about?

I am just sticking to tobacco and unflavored for the moment as tobaccos have never given me an issue.

Like the idea of a mild coconut banana or peach custard hint at a low flavor level.

I've been on a pineapple, pear, and dragonfruit mix for the last 6months. It's a very simple SNV mix and the flavor hasn't muted on me. I'm trying a cereal cheesecake and butterscotch cheesecake I mixed in a couple days when they finish steeping.

I'm not a big fan of coconut. I've only tried one peaches and cream recipe and it wasn't what I was after. The only banana liquids I've had was bananas foster from TheSauceLA and a banana cream pie from Hometown Hero, they were ok but not enough for me to keep a banana concentrate in my stash.

That sounds good. Its the fruits that are more or less shake and vape right?

I would be keen to try that if you are willing to share recipe?

There is a value in having a flavor that can be a go to for an adv. Kind of like a base measure for other recipes.

which nic base did you use PG or VG. If VG you need to shake the shit out of it or you get hotspots

Did you use freebase nic or nic salt. It shouldn't be harsh at 3 mg/ml unflavored. What tank are you using it in RTA or subohm, wattage? Shake it well and test it again.

Freebase. Subohm with vaporesso GT4 coil. 40 watts

I just shook the absolute crap out of it and will test again lightly in the morning. Going to make another one also and shake the shit out of the nic base as a poster above mentioned it could be a factor.

What base was your nic?

It is PG base 100mg/ml nicotine

Did you shake it before using it?

To be honest no.

I read that VG is bad for hotspots so assumed PG would be fine getting thrown around by the shipping company and all.

Also, sounds noobish but I think I was afraid of the lid popping off.

You think it was an inconsistency in the PG?

I do a hot water bath and a shake the shit out of it method. Works great.
