Christmas themed juice for gift? Tossing around a maraschino cherry, rum, cake, dark tobacco blend. Any thoughts?
submitted almost 6 years ago by calmerpoleece

I saw TFA maraschino cherry while walking out of the vape shop the other day and it's been bouncing around in my head like an echo. I was thinking a top note of cherry leading down to a bready middle with maybe some glazed doughnut and rum, with a touch of red Burley or something. Looking for someone to tell me it's a terrible idea lol.

EDIT: I have put together a trial recipe and will mix it up this week for all those who dont hate the idea haha

TFA Maraschino Cherry is a terrible idea

Lol, thank you for the voice of reason. You are helping.

Most of "maraschino cherry" in real life is sweetened almond extract. FA Almond gets a bad rap from people who were expecting to taste a nut, but it's a good vapable almond extract flavour. So is WF Angel Food Cake, but there's a lot of light cake in with the almond.

Huh, I never knew, thanks.

Did anyone ever find a cherry flavour that wasn’t absolutely horrible?! I’ve stayed well away from cherry anything- but if there is a good one I’d love to know what it is.

I’ve heard WF Black Cherry Jelly Bean is meant to be alright as a cherry. Anyone tried that one?

TFA Cherry Extract is wonderful.

I don't vape these type of mixes so not sure if any would help. I've had some success with TFA cherry extract, INW cherries and MB red cherry. Can't say for myself but the resident strawberry/peach hater claims GL Cherry is a good one. Seems to only be available in Canada though. Definitely doesn't apply here but if you're going in a fruit punch type direction Cap tart cherry has been workable. It's useless other than that.

I use inawera cherry concentrate and TFA cherry extract, both are pretty good

There was a cherry pipe tobacco I tried one time that wasnt too bad. It was too sweet for my taste, but it would work well in a recipe like the op is proposing. I cant think of it to save my life tho

Was it INW? Seem to remember they had a cherry tobacco.

Honestly I dont remember. I dont even remember if it was a flavor or a store mix. When I was OTR I tried so much different stuff lol. I was trying really hard to find something that would stick so I could quit smoking altogether. I just remember it was a cherry tobacco that I was pretty excited about bc I like cherry pipe tobacco, but it ended up being way too sweet and I couldnt figure out how to dry it out

Black cherry for pipe i think.

Yeah there's INW Classic for Pipe Black Cherry. I still haven't gotten around to mixing with it, but people say it's a fairly decent cherry.

On noted episode about cherry that's the only one they didn't trash outright lol

The INW Black Cherry for Pipe? I’ll have to get that one then. I’ll add it to my ever expanding list.

No sorry I was referring to the cherry Jelly Bean.

Closest I have gotten to a usable cherry is FW Cherry Berry. But it's worth mentioning that it is more of a candy cherry than a fresh real cherry.

Oh cool. I’ll check that one out too. What other cherries have you tried? Any to really, really avoid?!

Just to expand on the idea, if you find the right cherry, what about a cherry/walnut/spice and sweeter tobacco then tuck a bread/biscuit note under there. Kinda like a fruitcake without all the sticky disgusting lol.

Yeah, I'm looking maybe along the lines of inw black cherry, maybe some almond with the doughnut for the sweet bready body and a bit of TPA Jamaican rum.

I’ve heard marzipan (I think it was FA Marzipan) can be bent into a good cherry- I don’t know if that could maybe work in a Christmas themed recipe as it’s a Christmassy kinda flavour anyway and may also provide the almond note? I think they discussed it on Noted.

Nice. I like what you're thinking, should give that almond nuttyness as well.

Seems like a Christmas theme would call for a touch of spruce

Lol not an Australian Christmas. No snow , just heat and beaches and the odd fire.

Spruce is a common ingredient in Christmas beer, along with juniper and cardamom.

Guess you'll just have to decide whether you want to vape a fruitcake, or a Christmas tree...

Yeah Christmas cake was kind of what I had in mind, like the English rum dark fruit cake. It's pretty common over here. I have never heard of spruce beer, although I have tried some pumpkin spice ones and they always tasted a bit wrong to me. Do you like spruce beer?

Anyone tried any cherries that they would advise people avoid at all costs?! Maybe it’s time I venture down the cherry paved road. It would be good to know which ones to definitely not get. Thanks

by calmerpoleecealmost 6 years ago

Yeah that's one of the things I think is lacking , I wished they did a wrap up of the flavours on noted episodes with their top 3 and worst 3. It's very hard in the cherry episode where they basically hate everything.

Exactly why I’ve always avoided cherries! Which is a shame cos I’d love to make a cherry pie recipe. It’s just not been worth taking the gamble on buying a load of flavours that probably aren’t going to work when I can make a lovely apple pie or almost any other kind of pie with easy to find, good tasting flavours.
They do rank all the flavours they tried in order on more recent episodes of Noted. Plus there is a lovely person who puts a list of what they discuss and the time stamp in the comments which makes things easier if you just want to see the best and worst.

1 points

by calmerpoleecealmost 6 years ago

Haha yeah I used the timestamps but it's a bit tough to when you want to compare say 4 flavours spread through the episode without the context of what they tried before or after.

Shyndo's Black Forest Bacco (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/87014#black_forest_bacco_by_shyndo) is a great recipe.

I was going for something more cakey but I'm saving that for later. Definitely shares some profiles I was hoping to hit. Cheers
