I learned from the illustrious /u/matthewkocanda that recipes can be more than the sum of their parts^[1] and that a 2 flavor recipe can be just as amazing and have nuance like an 8 flavor recipe.

I've learned some I started diy that I love custards, creams, and bakeries when I make them myself. Massive thanks to Ediblemalfunction's custard now and foment life's DAAPled pears! Not quite sure why all the "premium" juice in those profiles tasted like burnt garbage to me, but everything I've diy'd has been amazing. Maybe from them using V2s/DX or something?

Thanks for sharing! I totally hear you. I was really put off by commercial custards. So much range when it’s diy to craft it how you like it. I’m guessing burnt coils = hella sweetener

Also just wanted to make sure you know, you’re not entered unless you’ve clicked the ‘tada’ in the giveaway channel on discord! Be sure to do it!

I learned to start small. My best flavors so far are 2 part flavors, everything outside of that was too ambitious and I really can't make a 4-5 flavor juice work just yet

Thanks for sharing! I almost always start with a 2 flavor pairing and just keep trying that with different things until I hit dead ends or an satisfied with a mix. I totally prefer exploration over trying to recreate real life things.

I entered in the discord, thanks! I tried to make a tiramisu and it ended up pretty awful. Tastes stronger than a death wish coffee no cream or sugar 😂. My favorites have been strawberry watermelon and a raspberry blackberry mix. I'll probably take those and try a berry lemonade, and a tiger's blood flavor.

Check out Ed’s berry lemonade on atf. Good stuff. Don’t forget to post your recipes in the monthly thread ;)

Having been vaping since 2011 I have learned so much.

From ohms law to making claptons / aliens / other crazy wires to learning how to DIY.

Doing DIY I have learned a ton about flavors, and how good some retail juice really is. But mostly I've noticed how much sweetener is used in many "Top Shelf" or "Premium" e-liquids.

Thanks for sharing! You’ve been at it hella long, fellow diy’er. Nice to hear the praises for retail juice. It’s not a common mantra you hear here but surely there’s someone out there who crafted some decent stuff that went commercial!

I've learned to absolutely never give up on a notion just because folks say a flavor sucks. Someone somewhere will have a better version, and you can play with that. Run with your obsession.

Thanks for sharing! I was pretty obsessed with waffle and so excited to try my $5.49 bottle of flv waffle... sadness. Check with noted before going too deep down a hole, but yes. It’s fun to do some flavor spelunking!

Biggest thing that I have learned is that in most cases, less is more.

Thanks for sharing! I like tapering down a percentage in a mix until it just stops doing anything, like the absolute minimum to get a desired effect. Only problem is I’m too scared to go the other way around which I think has kept me from seeing what the maximum use can be. I wrote off tfa banana nut bread because I barely got some flavor at 5%. u/ID10-T told me to take it up to 8% so I’m waiting on that to finish steeping.

Yeah I kinda do the same. Had a big problem when first starting with just drowning my juice with flavorings. Haha. Most of the time just ending up with sweet mist.

Tada away.

Just started diy a few months ago, don't think I could have done it without voraciously researching this sub. Best things I have learned is to let things steep, and keep tweaking things til they suit my taste. I am mtl and off cigs less than a year, so simple recipes with certain bold flavors like cactus, root beer, and citrus were a good place for me to start. Still learning all the time and having fun with it.

I’ve learned that it’s not as intimidating as it seemed to get started in DIY, my go to retail juices now taste like soap to me, and I am most definitely a strawberry mute that owns way too many strawberry flavors.

Yeah I no longer make testers at 120ml haha

I've learnt that a good scale is a must. It gives you the confidence to mix lower quantities correctly. I think of all the large batches i mixed and having to hate vape them, while at the same time learning as slow as a snail.

EDIT: Beginner here, thought I'd add some more,

I found it important to follow my gut about the flavours i personally liked from commercial juice, even though they weren't my friends favorites and we could not relate with each other about them. (For instance i just love me some candied strawberry, a good sbc is just heavenly. Someone i started with, will not even try them)

Flavours are not always what they sound like. Like how good is cactus with fruits, common(in this case, i actually though it might have made me sick before i tried it)

I learned not to buy flavors because they sound good, mix all new recipes in 10ml, the LB 501 is awesome and how great this sub and discord is.

I've learned that I vape for smoking cessation and to take good care of your freebase nic. nic salts for some reason are not as delicate to oxidation, but I can't explain it.
