I would have asked this in a general questions thread, but I didn't see one.
Anyway, hey there. I'm trying to make a mix of Prickly Victory for the Caliburn, so I tried doubling the percentages of the ingredients to start with, and the flavor isn't all that strong and still comes across as rather floral, which is not my thing.
So, I wanted to drop the Guava percentage back down and add a citrus to give it a bit more kick (or maybe Golden Pineapple?). FW Blood Orange sounded like a good fit, but apparently I don't have it, so I was curious if one of my other citrus flavors would work well.
I have FLV Blood Orange, CAP Juicy Orange, FA Blood Orange (Red), TPA Orange Mandarin, CAP Sweet Tangerine, INW Lime Concentrate, TPA Lemon, and FA Lemon Sicily.
Is there anyone out there with experience using those flavors? I tried finding flavor reviews, but can't find any for several of those flavors.
I've had good luck with doubling percentages in several pod mixes I've done, but Prickly Victory just doesn't seem to like it.
Citrus + Plastic pods is no good. They are going to crack and leak.
Are you sure the Caliburn pods are the type of plastic that gets eaten by citrus? I thought there were some plastics that that happened to, and some where it didn't.
AFAIK they're all made of polycarbonate. Try it and find out. If just using as a slight accent you may be able to get away with just cloudiness before the pod is toast.
CAP Sweet Guava is quite subtle and is usually used in the background. This won't translate well to pod/Caliburn, where you need a bold and simple profile. Have you tried FLV Pink Guava? While it is a completely different flavour, and admittedly does have grapefruit undertones (i.e. citrus), it may translate better to pod.
The floral you're getting is from the INW Cactus. In fact now I think of it, FLV Pink Guava may be a bit floral too. I'd probably just load up on FLV Guanabana and 0.5% CAP Super Sweet! Or I'd try a simple blueberry - something like FW Blueberry 8%, VT Bilberry Ripe 4%, CAP Super Sweet 0.5%.
I've never tried Guanabana before. I'm assuming from the name that it's a guava-banana mix? What percentage do you think I should start at for pods?
Thanks, I'll try that blueberry flavor. I've heard great things about Bilberry Ripe before, just never got around to ordering it.
u/ConcreteRiver's review covers it better than I ever could. FLV Guanabana review. It's a really complex and really tasty flavor. Works great as a single flavour, but you could also take it in lots of different directions.
Good advice. INW Cactus is still a thing?
Well it's a thing in Prickly Victory. Not really my cup of tea though.
Word. I was just drunk playing around. Found out I texted my friends telling them 25% off starting at midnight tonight on my juice. Believe the edjamacation system failed me. Trying to cipher 25 from 0. Saving grace is I told them in the beginning it would cost 25% more for drizzle. I wouldn't have it any other way though. Making juice that my friends and family love. For the family and friends I love! Really emotional knowing that I play such a role in keeping them from falling to lung cancer like my momz. Anyways was gonna say *Happy Thanksgiving but if memory serves me well you're from Australia?
*Not valid in Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico
What’s your pg/vg ratio? I would strongly advise against doubling up on flavors for the Caliburn. Better chance of muting the flavors that way. I find a 55/45 or 60/40 vg to pg ratio works way better. Just use the %’s you normally would.
I just do it to start with, then I start tweaking. Some flavors, like a Convicted Melons clone, taste fantastic with doubled ratios (at least to me).
I'm sticking with 50/50 ratio. I never get leaking or gurgling or anything, and the 50% PG doesn't irritate my throat, so I'm fine sticking with it for now.
Anything with cactus I only get floral notes
Next batch, I'll try dropping the cactus back down to 1%. I didn't think 2% through a pod would be that noticeable, but if the cactus is the culprit, then yowza it gets real floral. I love it in other things, but it's always a low percentage.
...other than Grack, but that's an anomaly.
