As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
#This week's flavor is.... CURRANT!
How did that get to be the FOTW?
It was requested!

I have a few Currants to try this week that aren't on the sheet yet: CAP Mixed Berry, INW Airwaves, Bickford Black Currant, Faerie's Finest Black Currant, and Baker's Flavors Black Currant.

CAP Sweet Currant plays a fair role in this, so I figured this recipe fits here. It makes for a dark, bold and sweet base to lay the raspberry's and strawberry's on top of. It's a fairly strong flavoring, that I wouldn't use over 2% in a mix. Quite distinct and unique (for me), there are no weird off-notes. There is a slight natural tartness and if I had to use a color to describe it, it would be "deep red".
The strawberry's in this mix are my go-to trinity/base as someone who is a "non-taster". These are worth a try alone. My two favorite raspberry's make up for a realistic combo that I couldn't imagine leaving out of the equation. The forest fruits are working as a blender in cooperation with the sweet currant adding some depth across the spectrum. The lemons will fade to the background with a 48hr steep, turning the mix into a lemonade/cordial type of red berry mix with a light tingle on the tongue.
Shameless shill incoming: I can't get enough of it and I prefer it over the majority of eliquids, OS concs and mixes I try. It's always in one of my devices and I go through about 120mls of this every two weeks. Yes, just give it a go. The ingredients are all solid and worth getting anyway. Although the lemons have specific uses.
I've been getting positive responses from the very few that have tried and/or mixed it up so far. I'd be delighted to know what you think. Enjoy!
This is one ive been looking forward to! Im interested to hear the Noted crews thoughts on the big Blackcurrant concentrates. I personally love both Sweet Currant and the Silverline offering from Capella. FA Blackcurrant is super useful for more than just blackcurrant flavour and FLV has a really nice take on Blackcurrant as well.
Are you volunteering to come on and talk about them with us? Because it kind of sounds like that's what you're doing. ConcreteRiver is already planning to be there but there's always room for one more.
