With all the drama with vaping lately, I'm planning on buying enough liquid to last me quite some time.
I was planning on buying bulk 250mg/ml (50/50 or 100% VG), breaking it down into smaller glass bottles. I was going to purchase a small "chest" freezer (~1.2 CuFt) to keep it all in.
Do you think the freezer is needed for storing for a few years plus? I've heard VG last longer, but I hate working with it.
Thoughts?
Suggestions from a fellow noob: PG nic is a bit easier for me to work with, VG can have hot spots and the uncertainty alone gives me anxiety. I store my nic in 30 ml glass bottles in the freezer and the one I’m working with stays in a dark cabinet. (I use River Supply Co (Nicotine River) Smooth Salts 100 mg/ml PG.)
What do you mean by VG "hot spots"?
I've been buying 3/6mg 70pg/30vg in liters for years, doing nothing but storing the plastic bottles in a box in the closet, and have never had any issues. I just shake well before mixing and then mix the flavor/base thoroughly.
Switch that. Keep the 30 that you use in the fridge or closet and main batch in freezer. It will be waaaay thinner and easier to use. You can always microwave your vg for like 10 seconds to make it warmer and less viscous. People may say it deteriorates it, but I burn through a 100ml in less than a week, so I truly don't care about their opinions.
Honestly if you put them in amber bottles and remove the air and seal them tight you don't need a freezer. A constant temperature and no air is more important than freezing. Just keep it in a dark cool cabinet.
E-juice can last for many years if kept reasonably cool, dark and most importantly away from air/oxygen. Ideally use amber glass bottles, fill them as close to the brim as possible and seal tightly with O2-absorbing caps.
There is no evidence to suggest that properly sealed e-juice will keep any better in a freezer than it will in a fridge, or even a cool basement.
Thanks for the info! Where might one get O2-absorbing caps?
O2 absorbing beer bottle caps are widely available everywhere homebrew supplies are sold. Screw tops may be a bit harder to find in retail quantities, but I know they are available industrially, the technical term being "oxygen scavenging liner."
Just get the gallons of essential depot pg and vg, keep those in the boxes and bags they come in, then under your bed or in your closet. Get liter bottles off Amazon, I got the flip tops, 4 ldpe liters for like 13usd, just keep one liter of vg and pg for Gen purpose, I keep another one full of distilled water, for thinner and to clean coils and vapes(non-conductive), then keep a 30ml or so of your nic in the fridge, and the rest in the freezer, and flavorings, I keep in a crown bag in a drawer. Hope this clears all Q's
I am in the process of doing this myself. If your freezing it you dont need to worry about the VG/PG ratio especially with a 250mg/ml, there just isnt very much there, so feel free to get which ever one you like working with better. Once stored in the deep freeze you can expect it to last upwards of 20 years. If you use a fridge you can figure between 2-5 years and if it is just in a closet or something its closer to 12-18 months. I wish you the best of luck and hope this post helped you a bit :) if you have any other questions or if I can help let me know and I will do my best to get you the info you need :) happy vaping
So this would be a cheap $150 freezer off amazon. The specs say -2°F to 10°F. Do you think this will work? I'm trying to get this to last at least 4 - 6 years.
Thanks for the help!!
Ya that should work fine, you might want to consider a back up power supply if your electricity goes out from time to time, the most important part is to make sure it stays frozen until you are ready to remove it. However if you dont have many power outages its not necessary. You can also get one of those machines that remove the air from containers to use on the bottles you are storing in it, the more oxygen you get out the better. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help, I make custom videos as well if there is ever anything you would like a visual aid for :), feel free to check out my you tube channel this is my workbench tour video would love to hear your feed back https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddC8TqLBUKA&t=177s :) happy vaping
Don't go 250mg, get a few 50mg bottles. Way less risk in something bad happening, also if you get multiple bottles you can keep them sealed and stored to prevent oxidation.
