Nicotine River nicotine salts
submitted almost 6 years ago by changg_

I want to try a nicotine salt batch and I noticed they have two different kinds: Smooth and Hit. Has anyone tried them both? Is there a difference, or is it just marketing?

I vape the smooth. It is very nice. The hit is supposed to be more harsh on the throat but on purpose. Nic salt can be mixed very high without throat hit which is desired but some sadists seek throat hit at high nic levels

Do you have to refrigerate it for storage or is that optional?

I refrigerate what I plan to use in the coming months, and I freeze it for long term storage, you can assume to increase the shelf life, from around 12-16 months, to 3-5 years in the fridge, and up to 20 years if frozen. I keep a small fridge and freezer next to my work station just for this. Its not necessary but it is useful hope this helps :D

Only in a proper deep-freeze.

If in your kitchen freezer, it will be going through thaw/freeze cycles that would actually increase oxidation compared to just having it in the fridge.

Thank you. Do you mix at high nic strength for pods or a low strength for an rda?

Just this week, I started using the 100mg/mL Smooth nic that I got from them a few months ago. It's fantastic. I honestly can't even detect it mixed at 24mg through a Caliburn.

I can't speak for a universal experience with my one anecdotal story, but I will absolutely be ordering from them again once that bottle runs out (or if some federal ban happens).

I think I heard that they (nicriver) are going to a sale soon, if I see it I will make a post about it :D

I’ve been using the Smooth at 15mg in my Caliburn. Can confirm it is smooth af.

I have both products, there is a bit of a difference, the smooth is just that very smooth and depending on how much you use it wont even give much of a throat hit, the hit will be a bit more of a throat hit but isnt overpowering. They are both good quality and have never had a problem, my SO uses it the most and she prefers the hit as she is a former smoker and wanted something a bit closer to a cig. I might suggest trying at least a small bottle of which ever one you dont get just to try it to see if you like it better. There is certainly a difference and you might be surprised which one you end up liking better, I wish you the best of luck and Happy Vaping :D

I use the smooth at 2mg and notice nothing, which I like. I tried it at 6mg for science, and no tingle at all. The head rush though ooooooh boy. This is all in an rda with a .29 ohm coil at 45 watts. Can't speak for the hit salts though, I want no burn. I like a smooth vape.

I've been using the smooth for the past two years and I'm not likely to change. It's gentle on the throat, even at higher percentages.

Personally I’m very familiar with the company, Ceo and practices. I used to work for Nic Riv (or River llc, now) And they are always innovative and progressive. But On the salts. I use both, The “hit”salts is supposed to mimic the throat hit of freebase nic, with the breaking of the blood /brain barrier quicker, meaning more nicotine, faster introduced. Smooth is just what it is. It took a bit to get used to. Now all I use is hits, make me remember I’m vaping nicotine lol

thanks for that information! very helpful. preparing to stock up so I don't wanna end up getting something I dislike. also, say I were to mix a 24mg with the hit, would it feel like a 24mg freebase? or not so much

I actually asked customer service what the difference was, and they said Hit salts are just a 50/50 mix of their Smooth salts and their freebase nic. So, I bought both individually and mix them myself to the ratio I want.

At higher watts/heat, the salts absorb REALLY quickly into the bloodstream, so you don't need a lot at all. I've been messing with the ratio for a while now, and I usually use 90/10 FB/Salt for juice on an RDA.

For pods, you just use as much freebase as you want for throat hit, then fill the rest with salts to the overall strength you want. Currently use 6mg FB + 4mg salt to end up at 10mg/ml.

The salts absorb quicker, but the fb keeps me satisfied longer between hits.
