"What flavors should I dilute?"
submitted almost 6 years ago by TeslaDelMarI Survived Grack

I saw a recent post on dilutions so I figure I'd share something I whipped up a month or so ago and forgot about.

I pulled the entire ATF flavor database and then checked the average percentages. I then made a spreadsheet with everything that was < 0.5% average.

Every flavor on this list does not need to be diluted. In fact, some of them even work at higher percentages in strange and unexpected ways that can be wonderful. That said, most of the flavors on this list are known to be extremely potent and if you're mixing small batches you may want to create a dilution in order to weigh it appropriately. If your recipe calculator is telling you you need to put in 0.01g or less and you don't have a thousand dollar scale, then it's time to dilute!

Hope this helps someone, and hope you all have a great day!

Flavors Recommended for Dilution

EDIT: /u/juthinc suggested that I reformat this a bit, so I did. Thanks man!

Not necessarily the best way to go.

Some flavors (INW Cactus) are frequently used at .2% (to add wetness) but also at two or three percent (mostly by philosaphucker and myself) when making it a central flavor. So the average use may end up skewed. Many flavors have a low usage rate range where they are more additive than star they may get exluded

INW Cactus is not on my sheet, but I get your point. I still think this is a useful starting point for deciding whether or not to dilute something.

Yeah. But I think people should be aware that dometimes a flavor can be used low enough to need dilution, but other times not need one, so don't dilute all you have. And other times, maybe you want to just mix a flavor shot and even tho one flevor is used below .1% it is y% of the flavor shot.

Good point, I'm going to edit my post in a bit to expand on that idea if you're OK with that.

Really surprised not to see INW Raspberry on there. That's one I cut to 10% that I use at .5% and it sill comes out strong and forward.

I think the raspberry seems fine, personally I can use it at .75 or 1% and it doesn't feel too overpowering, Orange however feels like it dominates any flavour when used at even like 0.2%, or Grape for that matter. INW flavours are just generally bloody potent.

Malina, Shisha, or Wera Garden?

Malina is a floral flavor rather han a fruit flavor. And a bully over .5% or so. Wera Garden is supposed to be potent too. Actually, most INW flavors are quite potent. Like INW Lemon Mix.... @.1% it perks up berries. And doesn't pull a vanishing act like FA Lemon ~~Sicily~~Pledge.

The ATF average for INW Raspberry is 0.871% - not saying it's right, but that's why it is not on my list.

FLV Alpine Strawberry is commonly diluted. No one will ever use it beyond 0.4% unless they want to recreate the taste of a flower garden.

I can vouch for INW Shisha Punch, definitely needs a dilution.
