Today I’m releasing Tangy Orange Creamsicle in celebration of four years tobacco-free. This is my second front page recipe, posted on the anniversary of my first one, PB Custard Cups!
Tangy Orange Creamsicle is a bold orange popsicle flavor which uses a trick with TFA Greek Yogurt to boost the perceived tartness of the orange coating. This makes a bright and tangy orange which is tempered by a very thick fluffy cream base. A hefty helping of FA Vienna Cream elevates this vape from freezer-burned discount brand creamsicles to name brand status. The vape on this one is an insanely thick, full and satisfying cream with an in-your-face, unmistakable ORANGE!
I’ve been holding out on this recipe because it’s built around SC Orange – a hidden gem of an orange flavor that doesn’t get enough love. If I had a gun to my head, and 10 seconds to name my top 2 orange flavors, the answer would be SC Orange and INW Shisha Orange.
It doesn’t look like there is an equivalent of this flavor in FE Orange, like there is with Lemon, but I can confirm that FE Sweet Orange is a different flavor, and definitely won’t work here. If you don’t have it and want to mix this one, you’ll probably have to order SC Orange from DIY-Ejuice in Canada. So, before anyone asks - it cannot be subbed with any other orange flavor here. Do you need it? Hell freakin’ yes you need it. I’ve vaped over 2 liters of this stuff in the past 4 years I’ve been working on it!
SC Orange is a potent bully that falls towards the candy side of orange flavors. The flavor is based on the orange popsicle coating covering a creamsicle. It’s not quite as candy-like or potent as INW Shisha Orange but it’s still no slouch. I once subbed it at 1% for TFA Orange Cream in Fresh03’s Peach Yogurt recipe and all I could really taste was orange. It completely overpowered the 7% TFA Juicy Peach.
Speaking of harshness, SC Orange is pretty smooth stuff. To me, it doesn’t have that citrus throatyness that FW Blood Orange and CAP Sweet Tangerine can have. I don’t notice much orange peel with it either. Another thing I really like about it, is that if I need more peel or citrus, I can easily augment with another flavor and add as much as I like.
Sometime after my third attempt at an orange creamsicle vape I mixed Fresh03’s Peach Yogurt recipe but didn’t have TFA Orange Cream, so I subbed the only orange I had at the time. Yup you guessed it. I’ll never forget the first time I vaped SC Orange in that mix. It instantly made orange my favorite fruit flavor to vape. It also transformed Fresh’s Peach Yogurt recipe into a damned fine orange creamsicle recipe. So I decided to base #4 on a skinny version of his recipe, but with SC Orange and only half of the 21% total flavor.
Percentages for the first 3 flavors of Tangy Orange Creamsicle are tightly coupled, but Slots 4 and 5 have some wiggle room for customization. The 1% FA Vienna Cream is pretty heavy-handed and mostly responsible for the long steep time. It might be too much for dual coils – I wouldn’t know as I’m a single-coil kind of guy. If it’s too much you can drop it down to 0.75% or so. Just don’t omit it entirely as the first four flavors are the core recipe itself.
The last ingredient in Slot 5 is where all the fun happens. My goal with this ingredient was to choose something that would boost the orange flavor, or at least improve contrast between the citrus and the cream. 1% CAP Golden Pineapple works great here. In the end I settled on 1% TFA Nectarine since it’s peachy notes are rumored to improve orange flavors. I also thought it was more true to the profile than pineapple, especially after seeing peach juice in the ingredient list of some creamsicles at the store.
If you want to try this out with something completely different, just sub whatever you want in Slot 5. I would stay away from coolants though, because they will probably mute the citrus too much. Also, keep in mind that a single change can ruin even the most solid recipe, so I recommend you only mix 10 mls when trying something new.
TLDR:
|Version|Notes| |:-|:-| |1 -3|SC Orange right from the first version. 2 – Try with CAP Sweet Tangerine. 3 - Try with FW Blood Orange (perfume - dumped the bottle)| |4|Based off my adaptation of Peach Yogurt using SC Orange. #4 had TFA Bavarian Cream and INW Peach. Baselining this to a recipe I enjoyed was a good move.| |5|Ran low on TFA Bavarian Cream so I subbed FA Vienna Cream. Huge improvement so I ran with it. Ditched the peach to simplify development.| |6|Percent tweaks| |7|Try with 1% FW Orange. It sucked. Too much orange peel.| |8|Try with 1% TFA Orange Cream. Still too much orange peel, seemed like a step back with no value added.| |9|Try with 1% CAP Golden Pineapple. Fantastic.| |10|Try with TFA Nectarine and percent tweaks. Tried with 0.75%, 1%, and 2%. At 2% it was too citrusy in some of my atomizers so I settled on 1%. Slightly better than #9.|
So that’s it folks. After 4 years, 10 versions, and over 2000mls vaped, I think it’s safe to call it done! Time to see if anyone else enjoys this as much as I do.
Well it sounds amazing. I'll be mixing this up and giving it a try for sure - let you know how i made out in a month. 20 day steep tho :)
Thanks, hope you like it! Give it a try around day 14. I went through my notes again and there was lots of tasting done at day 14 too.
No cooling agents? I didn't realize creamsicles were best served fresh out of the oven... (Of course, they were never really any good straight out of the freezer. That white shit in them ruined them.)
My goal with this one was to simply create my own orange creamsicle recipe, not to be completely accurate to the profile, or be better than "creamsicle x" recipe.
Try #9. No vanilla and no peach.
Don't let him fool you. He loves the creamy shit in the middle. Recipe looks good bub.
