I’ve been back at mixing for maybe a month or so. I used to just shake by hand and never noticed an issue. This time around I am mixing much larger quantities and shaking by hand got old quick. Is there any problem with over shaking? I’ve been using an industrial gallon paint can shaker and it puts so many bubbles in it that you can’t tell what it is. After one minute on the shaker going full blast my juice is almost completely bubbles! I’m almost thinking this is a dumb question and tell me if it is so.
SUMMARY : Are there any issues with over shaking?
No, I don't think it's an issue. Back when I first started diy, I used to strap my bottles to a reciprocating saw to give it a good shake. For me, the juice seemed to taste better compared to when I didnt use the saw for the same flavored juice. What I've seen before on many diy videos are that bubbles are good. They'll dissipate after a while and you will have some nice, mixed up juice.
I did this exact same thing. I had an old useless blade and built a small case that could hold 4 15ml bottles. It shook the shit out of them.
Brilliant! I make 4-6 bottles at a time, walk around the house shaking them, end up with a motion akin to jerking off... The kids look at me funny, wife looks at me quizzically... Yeah, I need a new method!
Only one. If you leave much air in the container, you're basically totally incorporating all of that oxygen into your mix, which can lead to more rapid oxidization. If you replace the air in the bottle with argon, this is no longer a problem
Oh cool I’ll just whip out this tank of argon gas i have sitting in my closet 🙄
Some people have access to different gasses for various reasons. Wine guys use whatever for keeping oxygen out of their product. If you have a mig welder, usually argon is on hand. I recall apple storage barns use another gas.
But... Even with a completely full container with no room left for air, a paint shaker should mix well. The different viscosity and density of each little pocket of individual components means vigorous shaking will eventually homogenize it.
That's where my mind went, but wasn't sure. I make diy cosmetics and some ingredients you have to be careful with shaking, mainly carrier oils and acids. I am new to diy vape, so I am still learning. What do you mean about argon?
There are any number of gasses that would work. Your choice would depend on what you have available and/or would have the lowest cost for. Argon is quicker to type than nitrogen, and one I could obtain fairly easily, but if you have something else on hand that can work there's no reason you couldn't substitute the air with it.
I use nitrogen and mix my juices with [this] (https://www.njuskalo.hr/image-w920x690/strojevi-alati-ostalo/mjesalica-boju-ljepilo-slika-93868953.jpg).
Sometimes I duck tape the bottle to my [ground pounder] (https://x.tariff.cc/i/2011-03/88693_vertikalna-notranjim-v%C5%BEig.jpg) and give it to my wife to pound away.
I have been doing DIY for 8+ years. I have tried many ways. However, the best one I found was a rock tumbler from Harber Freight. It rolls the bottles quickly and doesn't introduce air bubbles. How did I come to this conclusion? If you happen to own a soda stream you will know that after carbonation you add the syrup then you put the cap on and then you roll the bottle to mix not Shake. Since I own one I thought, why not try the roll method. So I did. It is AWESOME! Plus it is effortless mixing.
Absolutely not, your paint shaker, or any shaker for that matter, is introducing the bubbles as it shakes, its from the agitation of you shaking the bottle and it mixing with the air in the bottle. It will dissipate shortly after you finish shaking and depending on how hard you shake it there will be more bubbles, also depending on what you add slight color variations can occur when shaking this is common and normal as well, just always be careful like in all things and make sure to have fun, I would love to see juice mixed my paint mixer LOL, Genuinely it sounds like a blast LOL, I thought I was big time with a magnetic spinner LOL, Seriously awesome, You will have to include a video someday, good luck to you my friend, if there is anything else you want to know feel free to ask, and happy vaping :D
Actually a paint shaker(or the sawzall version thereof) is the only good mechanical mixing tool other than a vortexor (assuming minimal oxygen present in the container, of course). Magnetic stirrers make it fae more difficult to prevent introducing oxygen into the mix.
I haven't had any problems with bubbles from shaking. But I don't really do many complicated flavors so ymmv.
I use one of these
Badger Air-Brush Co. 121 Paint Mixer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BROV02?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It's small and handheld. Fits in all my 60, 90, 120ml bottles. Takes only about 15-30 seconds to be mixed as fuck.
The largest I make is 240ml bullet bottles. The way I do it is PG, flavors, and nic. Then I swirl it about for maybe 10 seconds. Then I add maybe 3/4 of the total VG and shake that until I see no more streaks. Then I top it off and shake it more. After that it goes in a dark closet in my basement (coolest place).
.
I've read that too many bubbles could be bad. My method adds a lot of bubbles I guess. It's not to the point of frothy but there's still a lot of air is introduced. I've never noticed a drop off in flavor or nicotine deterioration. I use the bullet bottles to refill smaller 30 or 60ml bottles. At times there is a lot of head space or air in the bottle. Again, I haven't noticed anything adverse happening.
